by Guest Klamsi- 2 replies

Hello, Our Domaincontroller (win2k server) crashed and has been taken out from lan. But login at the clients (w2k) is still possible using the domainname in the login dialog. Surprise, surprise!! Sorry, I'm used in administrating windows domains and I didn't found the right hints in forums solving my problem. I excepted, that login wouldn't be possible, when no DC is available! Thank for your help! Axel

Hi, My Windows 2003 server removes .bat and .msi files from zip files when I extract them. I thought this behavior may be related to Data Execution Prevention (DEP) so I set it to - only for essential Windows services. But, I still have this issue. What may be the cause? And, how can I resolve it? Thanks

My Pictures won't let me email photos
by Guest MartinS- 2 replies

For some reason all of a sudden My Pictures won't let me email photos, it will compress them but the email delivery box doesn't come up, instead I was getting something about Office Outlook profile needs to be set up. I use Thunderbird, never used Outlook but did recently install Office student and teacher edition 2003. I assumed this was the problem and removed Office Outlook part of Office, now the Outlook profile box is gone, but I still can't get the 'Send Email' box up after I try to email the pictures. Any ideas?

Terminal Services Disconnecting
by Guest Rob R.- 1 reply
I have two terminal servers running Server 2003 w/ SP2 and all current updates. Things were great for a long time, then recently I've had a few users report that their session will lock up and then actually log them out after about 30 minutes of inactivity. My Idle timeout on the server is set to 2 hours and even then it's only set to disconnect them not terminate the session. Can anyone shed some light on this problem?

by Guest David Griffiths- 1 reply

Hi, we are just experimenting with TS running just the basic available 2 logons with W2K3 sever. We have set up some users, with one user I gave the terninal server profile path the path to the roaming profile for that user, we have decided that that is not what we want right now and I have removed the bpath from the Terminal Services Profile tab in AD and deleted the users profile folder from document and settings on the server. When we log in as thta user it still creates the profile folder with over 2Gb of data from the roaming profile. There must be something else I must do to stop this from happening. All the other users we setup for test and did …

I have a disc that Disk Defragmenter won't finish defragging. On the first pass it did considerable work but quit with 22% fragmentation left. Now when I hit defragment it runs for 30 seconds and spits out the report below. Nothing in the logs to indicate a error. Disc is NOT dirty. No 3rd party disk tools have been installed. Partition has 54% free space. Any ideas why defragmentor won't finish? Cheers, Mitch Report: Volume (C:) Volume size = 99.99 GB Cluster size = 4 KB Used space = 45.38 GB Free space …

Add network printer from server running x64 Version
by Guest ykffc- 1 reply

My first Windows 2003 Standard version server has setup a printer called PP1. It can print normally from the local machine and it can be shared. If I add the above printer to an Windows XP machine from the network, the installation works smoothly and it can print normally. My second server runs Windows 2003 x64 version. I setup a local printer (same model and make) with name PP2. Again it can be shared. The printer prints normally from application running on the local machine. If I try to add PP2 to the same Windows XP machine, I receive an error. It complains "the server for the PP printer does not have the correct printer driver installed. If you …

Scheduled Tasks - Not Killing Child Processes
by Guest AdamT- 1 reply

Dear all, Is there a way to get the task scheduler to kill not just the task, but also the child processes? I have some scheduled tasks which run a .cmd file each night, and the task scheduler is configured to kill the task if it is still running 23 hours later. So far, so good - but the .cmd file calls another .exe file, which doesn't get killed when the instance of cmd.exe is. So I end up with a lot of processes like: Path: C:\Scripts\gzip.exe Parent: <Non-existent Process>(3336) User: NT AUTHORITY\SYSTEM State: Wait:WrLpcReply The process has some open file handles, so it hasn't finished running, but appears to be awaiting input from som…

I am wondering what the "Current sessions" under Default SMTP Virtual Server" mean ? In the right hand panel, users seem to com and go but not "my" users. Does this mean someone(s) are using my mail server ? I have the relay set to only allow ip's from my lan. Should I also restrict Connection control to just my lan ip's ?? Thanks

This is happening more and more lately... Our network is all on the 255.255.0.0 subnet with ip's in the 10.10.x.x ranges... We have 16 servers, 6 of which are 64bit W2K3 Ent servers the rest W2K3 Standard 32bit servers (all running the latest Service packs and updates) but for some reason when you go to a file share on some of the systems the Zone changes from Local Intranet to Internet.. and it wont let us do some operations with out adding that systein into a trusted site... why? this should not happen on an internal network! is there anyway to fix this problem? We have about 8 servers showing this problem now... all behind the same firewall, all on the …

We've looked for any GPO's that could cause this but none are configured. Any ideas on where/how to change this would be helpful. thanks

Local Cert Server

I was trying to setup an internal cert server for administrative use (for things like Dell's Server Manager and other hardware based interfaces) and i was able to setup cert server ok and generate certs just fine but IE still gives me an error because its not a trusted CA. I went to the http://server/certsrv and i noticed there is a link to "Download a CA certificate, certificate chain, or CRL" and i click on that and it gives me a link to install a "Certificate chain" and says that if i install that it will add it as a trusted CA, and that the server should be a trusted root CA. so i do that, it installs fine, i look in IE and i can see my server is in…
