HOME FOLDER ON 2003 ENTERPRISE ED .64 BIT SERVER
by Guest Al- 9 replies
ok now this seems pretty simple but it doesn't work!! In ADU&C, I can select an AD user, properties, profile and enter a home folder. Z: \\SERVERNAME\HOME$\%USERNAME% Now on the shared server I created a share directory named HOME, then shared named home$, in there I created the users home folder. user boots up his/her XP Pro which is on the domain and can see his/her home folder but can't freaken create or drop any folders/documents in there. User gets: access denied, you need proper permissions on the folder. User has full control on their folder! Tried everything with permissions and google. Still can't get it to work.

DNS service causing DC to hang on reboot
by Guest Saral6978- 10 replies

*posting here and in the DNS forum* DNS is causing my Domain Controller (Win2003R2) to hang on reboot. It freezes on "Preparing Network Connections". To determine it was DNS, I booted into Safe mode and disabled DHCP and DNS. The server booted normally and I was able to log in. I then enabled DHCP and rebooted server and the server booted normally. After I logged in, I then changed the DNS service to manual and started the service and it started successfully and my forward and reverse zones came up (active directory integrated) and all AD errors were cleared on this particular server (I have a total of 4 DCs among 3 different sites). Problems …

Win 2003 wants to activate again
by Guest Jennifer- 6 replies
Hello After happily fileserving since before I can remember, my Win2003 server has decided it needs to be activated again. There have been no hardware changes. Every day or so for the last week, it won't let me logon until I activate. Sometimes it activates successfully; sometimes it says it is already activated, which, of course, it is. It frequently refuses to let me logon via remote desktop, although I can browse the file system.I have to reboot the machine to allow remote desktop. Then I get the activation thingy. Could the probs be related? Does anyone have any thoughts? Jen

Hyper-V weird ping results from guests
by Guest Dan- 3 replies
We have a Hyper-V cluster setup on our HP Blades and when a Windows 2003 Hyper-V guests pings itself the results are all over the place. Not really a problem until you start using SCOM to check ping availability now our SCOM falsly reports on slow pings replies. And when a Windows 2008 Server guest pings itself it says reply from ::1 which to me says it's using IPv6 but I have IPv6 uncheked for all network connections.

Send Message - Admin Rights
by Guest JohnB- 4 replies
Our users work exclusively through RDP. For some reason a handful of users were given local admin rights, so that they could send each other messages using Task Manager. I've discovered that sending messages using that message does require Local Admin rights. Is there a way to give users rights to send messages using Task Manager, without giving them local admin rights? TIA

linkd questions
by Guest phavel- 6 replies
Hi, I am looking to use linkd to solve a copying issue. Is there any way to get an overall view of all the links that have been created on a system, and likewise is there any way to remove a link once it has been created (other than destroying the source directory). I know there are ways around the latter, just wondering if there about what options I have with this. Thanks.

Wins server install ??
by Guest steve- 3 replies
I have a small network of about 15 computers. One AD. 2003 server. The dhcp is done by the router, if that matters. The server is set up to do dns. I have installed the wins role to help in network conectivity. Once its installed, which seems like a prety simple process. Is there anything else I need to do. Is it like DNS where you basically install it and your done. I have looked at it and it seems to be showing the servers ip address but when i look at Active Registrations and Replication partners I dont see anything listed. Is it working ?? Will it only work if I put the wins server name in each one of the computer network settings?? Thanks.

Checkdisk on Production system - fixing issues without unmountingdrives
by Guest requeth@gmail.com- 0 replies
I have a prod system with several tera of SAN disk attached. The filesystem was acting up and the drive has critical issues now on about 30% of the data, and we need to run a checkdisk to repair the issue. The downside is that it'll take over 3 days of downtime to run checkdisk due to the size of data, and the fact that checkdisk requires that we unmount the drives so users are all ofline for that time. Since there's no 3 day weekends coming up soon does anyone have an idea to fix the drives without unmounting them?

FSRM File Screens and IIS
by Guest Irwin Fletcher- 0 replies
I have a directory that has a file screen set up on it (via FSRM) that only allows file of type .zip. This directory is available via IIS to authenticated users. I have enabled write access to this directory in order to allow users to upload, change or delete files in this directory. The file screen works as it should when users try to upload files. However, where it seems to break is when users create a directory and then rename it. Users are allowed to create the directory, however when they try to rename it, they get blocked by FSRM. It does allow them to rename the directory if they name it something.zip. I tried to share out the directory as…

SPN for sql server service
by Guest lobezno- 0 replies

Hi all, I'm trying to set an spn for sql server service I'm in my DC machine and execute: setspn -a MSSQLSvc\SQL_SRV:1433 MyDOMAIN\MyUser where SQL_SRV is the sql server machine in MyDomain. At first sight, all it's OK. I get an "updated object" return message. But then If I execute: setspn -l SQL_SRV the sql service, doesn't appear. Also, If I see MyUser properties in AD delegation tab, and try to select the service, it doesn't appear. Another extrange think it's that, I've created MyUser, totally new, it means that delegation tab in AD propertiers, doesn't appear (it's correct), then, I've executed the setspn, and then, delegation tab appears ¿? An…

by Guest indytoatl- 4 replies

Is it possible in any way shape, form or fashion to map a network share without using drive letters? Our company merged with another company and we use some of the same drive letters for our department shares. Without completely changing everyone's environment, can this be done? We looked at Windows Mount Points but the directories had to be empty. Domain = Win2003 FileServers = Win2003

I am receiving a NTP Server did not respond, w32time event ID 11. I have searched the support site and found the error but did not locate how I can remedy this situation. I am running Windows Server 2000, service pack 4 with all the latest Microsoft updates. This is a domain controller (one of three, two of the domain controllers are windows 2000 and one is 2003). Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. -- Bruce

FTP user login to specific directory
by Guest Matt- 3 replies
First off I did not know where I should post this so I apologize if it's in the wrong area. I had a qestion about FTP users. I have an FTP directory set up on my server where users can log on drop files etc.. I have one user who I want to log into a different shared directory on that server by using the same ftp path. Is there somewhere in a user profile i could make this users ftp login go to a specific directory... ie... \\servername\shared folder? So he would do the same steps as everyone else, go to a browser, type in ftp address, enter username/password and just for him it would re direct to the other directory. If this is not possible what…

by Guest Daniel- 0 replies

Ok, I am getting a Inaccessible boot device when I boot up into Windows 2000 Server. I have done a check disk on my drives (RAID5) with 3 HDD's. They seem to be OK per the check disk. Next I done a Windows repair. After this I was able to get pas the blue screen and go somewhat into a GUI. It gives me an error saying Security Accounts Manager initialization failed because of the following error: The security ID structure is invalid. Error status 0xc0000078. After googleing this I seen where people said a defrag should fix this. But other sources point to the registry as a problem. I do have a backup but it seems like when I load the backup it g…

NetLogon Scripting by Domain Controller location
by Guest Don R Hunsinger- 1 reply
All, This is a 2003 Domain with seven domain controllers. I want to write a DOS batch file to check for the existence of our anti-virus application and if it does not exist to install it from the Netlogon based on which domain controller they are logging into. This way I can run it for each region after we have pushed from the Anti-Virus servers and clean up any users that missed the push. I want to know if I can use the %logonserver% variable to specify where to install it from. That way I would be able to specify which locations by logon domain controller can install. i.e. if %logonserver% equals SJWSDC00 then... or if %logonserver% not SJWSD…

w2k3/IIS6 query on FTP logins?
by Guest JVRudnick- 2 replies

Learning here how to use windows Explorer to ftp data to our server, instead of using our FTP software. Seems pretty easy to do, but I've a question. w2k3 is supposed to allow you to both isolate or not, the user from all the folders in the vhosts folder, as I understand it. In setting up a simple FTP, I just used the Wizard and it ran fine...but I did note that when I tried to use same, I was asked for the id/pw and I had them for one of the sites on the server....but that made me wonder. When I'm using RDC on the server and settting up a new FTP service there, for a client whom I want to be isolated, I did NOT see anyway to create id/pw for them. …
