Shared folder on removable drive stops working in Server 2003 R2
by Guest Dmitry Anikin- 0 replies

I have Server 2003, there's a removable USB HDD which has a shared folder. It's used as read-only, caching is turned off. If you remove the HDD and then insert it again - the shared folder no longer works. It says it's still shared, but if you enter it through the network it's just empty, you don't even get an error. Now, if you do "safe removal" then everything is fine, but alas there's no one to do that (someone comes, switches hdds and goes away, doesn't have a console login) and anyway if the folder is in use safe removal doesn't do anything. The only thing I can think of is running some script through scheduler which checks every minute for the folder's …

RE: Administrator Account (Local Policy)

RE: Administrator Account (Local Policy) Greetings all, I have an interesting problem, I cannot use the administrator (user) account to log on to my SBS 2003 R2 locally. I get an error that says local policy does not allow logon. This problem is with the user-administrator, not the group because other administrator accounts can logon on just fine. Can anyone shed a little light on how I can fix this so I can get back to using the 'administrator' account? Thanks for the help. -Lumpjaw

File Server Question
by Guest Bromc- 1 reply

You have a 2003 R2SP2 server, acting as only a file server, and it's getting slammed. CPU is fine, RAM is fine, Disk use is going crazy. Is there a way to tell which user is writing what file that might be causing the bog down? I know you can see who's connected to the server, and what files they might have open. I can see what processes are running. I want to know a way to see disk usage as I would processes. Percentage doing what and who's doing it. Thanks.

I installed SQL Server 2005 x64 SP2 on a Windows Server 2008 x64 Standard version. I installed the workstation portion of SQL Server 2005 on a Vista x64 system. When I tried to connect from the client, I got a SQL Server error 10060, could not connect. I went to the Windows Server 2008 and turned off the firewall and then could connect from the Vista client to the server. Can anyone tell me how to properly configure the firewall to allow SQL Server traffic? TIA Flomo

Server 2003 fails to boot, "load needed DLLs"
by Guest Oranuf- 0 replies

System worked great for over 4 months. Rebooted a Windows 2003 Server instance inside XenExpress today, and instead of booting up as it should, all we get is the following error: "Windows could not start because of an error in the software. Please report this problem as : load needed DLLs for kernel. Please contact your support person to report this problem." Two other test instances in the VM also booted up with this error. That's three instances that are hosed. The OS has all the latest service packs and patches that I know of (SP2 plus all subsequent hotfixes/etc.), and had been rebooted since those updates without issue. Have tried all MS a…

Server Upgrade
by Guest Dellboy- 3 replies

Hi, don't know what happened to last Q. I reckon it got posted before I could ask my questions properly... I have two servers to upgrade (80 user network) and my query revolves around processors and windows version. It is a 3-server network, currently one 2003 Terminal Server (staying on domain, Member server) and two Win2000 (one an Exch 2000) servers. One server will be simple file and print, the other primarily an Exchange server. I intend using Windows Standard Edition, either 32 or 64-bit. Both servers will be AD controllers and will do other bits like DNS and DHCP. Q1. Will Windows 2003 standard edition take advantage of quad-core processors fo…

Server 2003: program installation problem
by Guest Jack- 4 replies

Hello, I do not have Windows Sever 2003, neither have an access to one. I am the software developer, and my application does not want to get installed in Server 2003. There is an apparent problem when running setup.exe (the installation file created by vbasic Setup Wizard) in Server 2003. The error is: "Invalid command-line parameters. Unable to continue" I know from the experience that that error appears always when trying to run Setup1.exe alone, which is a part of whole installation package. However, the user do not have access to that Setup1.exe file because it is a compressed file, and the only executable file in installation package…
