Task Scheduler job Hangs (rundll32 printui.dll,PrintUIEntry)
by Guest Larry Bird- 3 replies

I'm running Windows 2003 Standard Edition with Service Pack 1. My problem is related to a batch job hanging when initiated via Task Scheduler. I have a bat file that when initiated via a double click it runs fine with no problems. However, I take the same batch job and initiate it with the Task Scheduler and it seems to hang. I've already performed the following task to try and make things work: 1. Change all of the drive mappings to UNC. 2. Checked to make sure that access is permitted using the UNC. 3. Checked to make sure that local permission are appropriate on the local machine. 4. Made sure that the "userid" and "pa…

i have a server that is having problems resolving names. i have the DNS servers configured correctly (responds fine for other systems) and when i run an nslookup it times out getting the name of the dns server when i first start it and any request i make times out. i tried switching nslookup to the backup server and i get the same thing. I just recently assigned two new ip's to the primary nic and this box is also running VM Server. never had a problem with nslookup not working so i dont really know where to go to start troubleshooting this. Thanks Justin

SBS 2003 move to new hardware
by Guest David S- 4 replies
We have a non-standard "server" (it's actually more of a PC) running SBS 2003 and would like to migrate the installation over to a real server and keep everything the same. Basically just move the installation from one server to another and retire the old server. Is there a good KB article that outlines the necessary procedure? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

changing drive install letter from d to c
by Guest ric926- 9 replies

tried to do an uograde from svr00 to svr03, i have a 3 phys hd (ide) 2 drives on a stripe (sata) and 2 scsi drives striped, now my boot.ini is right 0/0/0/1, but it shows as my d (letter) drive, can i swap c and d? during the upgrade it failed and there was no way to go forward or back so i unplugged the sata and the scsi, i guess thats how the letters got messed up another interesting thing when the system boots, it posts then polls the scsi and drive 1 says its c, and drive 2 says its d, then it polls the sata. but even w/the scsi saying they are c and d it still picked up the master ide on chnnl 0 thanks -- rf

video problem
by Guest forum.microsoft.com- 1 reply

for windows 2003 standard edition on an Intel server with PCI-express, no AGP, what video card is supported? I looked under the Hardware catalogue, I found ATI with AGP type (Rage XL but not PCIE listed, I looked under NVIDIA but not found. The problem we have is that when physical console is used mixed with Remote Desktop console access, rebooting or shutdown can lead to crashes pointing to video driver problem. The likelihood of such crashes increases substantially after applying updates form Microsoft - almost guaranteed each time we apply Microsoft update we are right now using Sapphire x550 ( ATI chipset) as supplied by the vendor

Software RAID 5 performance
by Guest Miha Markic- 1 reply

Hi guys, What speed perfoormance (read, write) can one expect from 3x250GB SATAI drives bound in software raid 5 array on W2K3x64? I am asking this because write speed looks very poor ~4MB/s while the CPU is only using 10% or something. -- Miha Markic [MVP C#, INETA Country Leader for Slovenia] RightHand .NET consulting & development http://www.rthand.com Blog: http://cs.rthand.com/blogs/blog_with_righthand/

Unable to telnet to port 139 and 445
by Guest Donny- 0 replies

I'm unable to telnet to the filesharing ports 139 and 445 on my windows 2003 server. If I logon locally onto the server and telnet to that port, I'm still unable to. Netstat -an also doesn't show that it's open. I tried to enable Netbios of TCP/IP on the network settings but was still unable to telnet to the ports. Is there a service which I have to start manually or something which I have to install? What needs to be done for these ports to be open on the server?

Printers from Print Server are not locked down
by Guest Flash3200- 1 reply

I have set up a Win 2003 R2 SP2 print server and all users only have print capability. However, on my test domain everything works fine and download of the printer to a local workstation is quick and all properties of the printer are grayed out. In my production however, the properties are not grayed out. I can't figure out the difference since all Group Policies are the same for both domains and the test workstations vs the production workstations are set up the same as well. Users are Local Admins on workstation in both domains. Any ideas on what is going wrong in production? I'd prefer all properties (except those specific of the printer) are grayed out …

Disaster Recovery Question
by Guest Kevin- 1 reply

I wanted to install a new operating system on an old server. I deleted the partition, formatted the unpartitioned disk and then installed the new operating system to the drive. Only to find out I installed it on the wrong drive and I have no backup of the drive I wiped out. Is there any hope of getting the data back? Most of the stuff on there is supposed to be kept by the people that use it, so I'm not thinking of sending the disk off and paying thousands to have it recovered. But if there's a cheap program that will recover the disk, I would consider that. Can anyone point me in the right direction?

USB 2.0 with Windows Server 2003 Standard Edition - SP1
by Guest Asim- 0 replies

USB 2.0 hubs are not recognized on 2003 Server -SP1. This is a known issue as per KB 892050. I requested a fix from MS and they sent me a link to download the hotfix. I downloaded the exe and it unzips to 2 exes... 1. WindowsServer2003-KB892050-x86-enu.exe 2. WindowsServer2003-KB892050-x86-Symbols-enu.exe There are no instructions as to how the hotfix should be applied The first file does some updates probably to my usbehci drivers.. The second file just unzips a usbehci.pdb in the location which I choose in folders like symbols-->sp1qfe-->retail-->sys Needless to say -- USB 2.0 is still unrecognized after applying the first exe and a reboot. …
