We have a w2k3 domain and exchange server. We have given a user rights to update membership on a security group he requested. How can we fix it so that he can see the security group so he can administer it and not us? Thanks in advance

RDP Access Hung after reboot
by Guest News Group- 14 replies

This has been happening more and more ever since the release of SP1 and SP2. After a system reboot through scheduled tasks (tsshutdn /REBOOT), we are not able to RDP into the server but the server is up and running (no other issues). This doesn't happen every time but it seems to be more frequent. The only way to fix it is to plug-in at the console and reboot the server again. Restarting any RPC related services never helps. We have a mixture of Windows 2003 Standard/Enterprise servers with all updates applied and running the latest RDC console on servers and workstations. Does anyone else run into this problem and if so, any suggestion on how to …

by Guest Simon- 3 replies

Hi All, In a test lab, I have implemented Win2k3 R2, mainly for the Quota management software. On this Server, will be users Home Drives. These will be on the E: Volume and I created a folder called "Home Folders". Under this folder the Users Home Folders are stored in alphabetical folders A-Z (In other words, users Surname that start with the letter "A" will be in the root folder A, and so forth. I have around 2,500 Home Users Folders that need a quota enabled for 800MB I wanted to enquire on the best method of doing this. Ideally, I was trying to avoid doing it on a "per folder" basis for each user, seeing as there is alot to do. If anyone has …

Changing the Redirection Policy
by Guest Jeffrey- 1 reply

I have a folder redirection policy currently applying to my entire domain. My documents is currently pointing to \\server1\redirected\ %USERNAME% I have created a new OU, blocked inheritance and created a new redirection policy with my docs pointing to \\server2\redirected\ %USERNAME% and moved the account in question into the new OU But, when I login as the user in question, my docs still points to \ \server1 and not to the new location of \\server2. Have tried rebooting, gpupdate /force. Do I need to delete the docs & settings folder on the workstation for the new location to take effect?

Redirected desktop access
by Guest Shieldfire- 6 replies

We have an installation with redirected desktop on our file server. However, from time to time users get the annoying error \\fsyd-ad02\users\USER\desktop is not available This happens for some users once every 4 logins or so. Sometimes less often. What should I be looking for in the logs? Another error which may be related, is that some logins are broken in that nothing is displayed, just the background image. Not even the error message and basic explorer is displayed, just nothing at all. Anyone seen this before? Martin S

planning switch to MSI deployments when software already "out ther

Hi chaps, I've been working in this SMB for over a year which admittedly is about 5 times larger than the er, small business i worked for previously and one of the things that excited me of working somewhere bigger were the idea that so much of the place would be running automated processes for software installs and having cool management systems going on but to be honest it feels like this place is stuck in the NT 4 days. The business has been kind enough to fund me some proper training though and i'm an exam away from being an MCSA - yay. Anyhoo, i'm trying to drag this place into the future, or more like today anyway. I'm going through and writing…

When installing w2k3 there was a screen where you defined number of max concurrent connections allowed per server. In w2k8 there is no such screen. Is there any default number of concurrent connections predefined or there is no limit? tnx.

Page faults and crashing apps
by Guest Jon H- 2 replies

Hello, I have a W2003 Terminal Services server providing access to an accounting package MYOB Enterprise. This software is supported as TS compatible by the developer. The server is a dual Xeon box with 4GB RAM, there are 15 clients. MYOB crashes without warning, with a message along the lines of "the memory could not be read". I am trying to track the cause and have been using perfmon. I notice in time frames surrounding a crash, page faults / sec can rise to 100,000 or more for a couple of seconds. The application executable myobp.exe does not seem to be directly causing this as I have tracked page faults against that prog. I would like to …

Migration DC's and Exchange
by Guest Mark- 0 replies

Hey Everyone, We have purchased 3 high end servers with a SAN and plan to virtualize our existing server infrastructure. We also plan to migrate from Exchange 2003 to Exchange 2007. Is is best to migrate the two Windows 2003 R2 DC's first to the virtual environment or migrate exchange 2003 to 2007 first then do the DC's after? Exchange 2007 will be hosted in a virtual environment as well. Any advice or reference materials would be great. Cheers, Mark
