I recentlly acquired the bulk of my network servers from my headquarters. I have a server 2003 machine that needs to be rebuilt but was not sent with the product licensing info or disks. Is there anywhere I can go or call to try and find out what the product key is so that I can re-install the OS? Thanks

Hello, I have a SBS 2003 file server with a 3 disk Raid 5 setup for files. I'm starting to run fairly low on disk space and wanted to look into replacing the drives with bigger capacity ones. Currently they are 3 36GB 10,000 RPM Drives. Can any one suggest a procedure i should follow in replacing the drives? I haven't done this sort of thing before and would appreciate any help & tips. Regards.

disappearing files!
by Guest T_A_C- 4 replies

Situation: we have tens of thousands of files (mainly word processing docs), on our 2003 file/print server. Now seemly random file are gone! I can't figure out why!?.... I did notice that when I use vss for files to get these missing files back, that they all seem to be missing after Sep.24th 12pm (my afternoon vss snapshot). So something has happened that evening, (on the 25th at 7am I have another snapshot taken and the files are not there). Variables: Using NTBackup to VS-80 tape drive, Acronis TrueImage Server 9.1 creating differential images nightly to an external USB HD. I verified that neither backup routine crosses over each other (time wise).…

by Guest Will- 2 replies

I'm not sure if this is something new in SP2, but apparently there is now some group policy option to prevent installation of printer drivers with kernel mode drivers. I need to install to Windows 2003 64-bit a driver for the HP 9050DN. Does anyone know if HP makes any driver for this printer that is not a kernel mode driver? -- Will

RDC improved with better video card?
by Guest Matt Carter- 3 replies

Is my Remote Desktop Connection session on Server 2003 Standard Edition R2 SP2 x32 improved at all visually if I am looking at a website with images on it, if I have say a 128MB video card instead of the onboard ....32MB or 64MB video? When images come on the pages or I am looking at screenshots from users, I find that the graphics are slow. I might be my connection, however when I am doing everything else it is OK. I am on a cable connection with a slow upload rate, however, it is DECENT. I wonder if I put in a 128MB video card if things will improve or if I'm in fantasy land and should wake up and realize it's the upload rate that is killing me and a…

Client's lose connection to domain controller.
by Guest Aveox- 3 replies

Hello, I have been experiencing an issue with one of my domain controllers. Let me describe my setup first: We have two Windows Server 2003 R2 Standard servers one holding all of the FSMO roles and the other acting as a file server. DNS is installed on both machines and I am using DFS to backup the data between the file server and the FSMO holding server. The FSMO role holding server also acts as our print server and just for more info, the hardware on both machines are identical. Now for the problem: I will randomly get a phone call from a user saying that they can no longer print. When I look at their machine's printers folder, I see that all of them…

DPM can't see my Quantum ATL Superloader L600
by Guest jaxdevo- 0 replies

Hi, I really like the features that DPM offer, have installed and setup DPM on server with limited drive space. Want to backup to disk, then archive to tape but DPM doesn't see my Quantum ATL Superloader L600 LTO tape library. SCSI can see the devices, the drivers are installed. Only thing DPM can see is the HP LTO tape drive inside the tape library. This will be a serious limitation to DPM is library support is limit to bleeding edge libraries. Anyone know of a way or site to get this working? Thanks in advance for the support! -- Jaxdevo

Remote Desktop will not reconnect after reboot
by Guest JenC2000- 4 replies

I do most of our Windows updates on Servers through remote desktop, but when I reboot a server, 20%-30% I am not able to reconnect. The server is up, the resources are accessible, but the Remote Desktop no longer works. Usually if I reboot a second time from the server console directly, Remote Desktop will start allowing connections. Any ideas?

Is there a Default Backup User in W2K3?
by Guest Adam N.- 5 replies

Is there a Default Backup User account already created in W2K3? I am wanting to use a NAS to backup some directories on a W2K3 server, the utility wants an account to access the server with, so if there was a default account already created I would like to just use that. If not should I just create a user account specifically for this function? Thanks in advance,

There is no hardware firewall. <quote> An anonymous session connected from <IP address> has attempted to open an LSA policy handle on this machine. The attempt was rejected with STATUS_ACCESS_DENIED to prevent leaking security sensitive information to the anonymous caller. The application that made this a…

I have a server that is running shadow copies twice a day. They seem to run fine, then after a day or so they just dissapear. I see no errors in the event log. I am running SP2 and all the updates. I have over 1 TB of free space on the server so disk space is not an issue. Does anyone have any suggestions? Thanks, Brian

I have to replace Disk 0 of a software mirrored pair as it has a bad block. The mirror is up showing Healthy (At Risk). Disk 0 is "Online (Error)". Disk 1 is "Online". There are volumes C: and D: in the mirror. Volume C: will not reactivate past 7%. Server still boots without problem from Disk 0. My problem is that if I attempt to boot using Disk1, it starts off promisingly enough showing the Windows Server 2003 startup screen, but then stops with a 7B stop error: "A problem has been detected and windows has been shut down to prevent damage to your computer" etc. etc... STOP: 0x0000007B (0x89A97268, 0xC0000010, 0x0, 0x0) I have tried booting via "Boot M…
