I replaced the workstations, but made no changes to the existing Domain server. I have the everyone account with full permissions. What happens when I go to connect it wants me to log into an account??? I even went to the workstation that was sharing and added the user trying to connect to that computer an…

Hello, I would like to enable a user to close open files (that do not belong to him) through Computer Management on a 2000 or 2003 file server WITHOUT making him a member of the administrators or Server Operators group. Is that possible and what would the minimum rights be that would have to be granted? Thanks for any help! Harry

Windows Server 2008 and Fibre Channel
by Guest BobL- 2 replies

Hello, I have a lab environment in which I have Windows Server 2003 R2 and a Qlogic QLA 210 fibre channel card installed and hooked up to an EMC array. Windows Server 2003 sees the LUNs I have created on the Array and presents a drive to the Operating System which I can read and write files to. I have configured another server with Windows Server 2008 and the same Qlogic QLA 210 fibre channel adapter. Although the LUN assigned to this Window Server 2008 adapter is detected, whenever I try to bring the disk online with Disk Manager it states the 'Drive is not ready' I have configured the interface on the EMC array in the same manner as the connecti…

Server on a desktop
by Guest Maurice- 3 replies

Would like to load the majority of the Microsoft Action Pack onto a home desktop [server 2003, Exchange, Sharepoint, etc]. Have a 500Gb SATA drive in a 3Ghz machine which would be dedicated to this project. My questions are as follows: - Is there a way to have Server 2003 running simultaneously and independently of Windows XP then load the remaining applications to the same drive? [i do know about dual-boot] Is there a virtualization 'how to'? This set up would be for a maximum of 10 connecting at any time - Is there such a thing as a 'virtual RAID' using either memory, free space on this intended drive or another drive? Looking for fault tolerance for…

Hello all. Here is the error detail that I am getting. What I did was originally install a Radeon 7000 with TV Out but elected to downgrade the video to an older regular Rage card. But now am getting this error below. The drivers which were originally installed was by the installation of Windows 2003 server. So there is nothing under Add/Remove Programs for ATI. I tried removing any registry entry involving WDM and Radeon 7000 but still get this error. If anyone can tell me how to disable this service which is not found under the list of services or also under msconfig would be greatly appreciated. Thanks Event Type: Error Event Source: Service Control…

Hi, I am encountering one issue in my office. Whenever I open MS excel, excel will automatically try to open all excel document located in my network drive, so I have to keep on clicking "okay" button from the prompt box. The strange thing is whatever excel or word documents that I opened before, there will be shortcut created on my network drive therefore I have to manually delete the shortcut. I have tried to rebuild my roaming profile but the problem still persists. Anyone has experiencing this kind of issue? Please help me. Thank yo…

Catastrophic Corruption of Dynamic Disks
by Guest Will- 10 replies

I had a really disappointing event take place today with a critical system that runs Windows 2003 32-bit. Effectively *all* of the dynamic disk structures were corrupted, even though we were not working on them at the time of the reboot. Upon reboot the system gives some brief message about the disk being corrupt, and the Windows 2003 boot sequence never starts. Looking at all of the drives inside the Disk Management utility in Microsoft's ERD Commander Boot CD, the Dynamic volumes show in the state "Offline". A Google search seems to suggest that Dynamic volumes in an offline state normally means the Dynamic volume information is corrupt and ca…

Server Upgrade
by Guest Dellboy- 1 reply

Hi, I have two servers to upgrade. The user base is about 80 people. One is to be a file and print server, the other to be mainly an Exchange (2007 probably) server. Looking at the Dell web site, they offer dual and quad core processors of varying speeds. Dell want to sell me systems based on 2 quad-core processors in each. My questions are these: 1.My instinct tells me that this will be overkill for a File and print server. Will Windows take advantage
