Hi, Windows 2003 Server, File and Print and Database, member of a domain. I setup ntbackup to do a nightly job but it continues to fail. I have a few USB external drives that I swap and take off site. I replace these every few days as it is cheaper and more convenient than tape. My problem is the backup job when it is set to automatic it fails saying it cannot locate the media. I have the removeable drive on another server that is running a local backup and works fine. This server is connected to that with a drive mapping. If i go into the backup job, and copy and paste the command line parameters to a command prompt the backup works just fine.…

I hope this is an easy one - I have a single forest with multiple domains. I would like to have a single signon to administer all of the domains in the forest. All the domains are 2003 fuctional level. I can create a group in domain A and add it to the Enterprise admin group on the forest root but I cannot add any users or groups from the forest root domain to the domain admin groups in the child domains. Any thoughts?

We have a win 2003 server that uses a mandatory profile for 300 students that share windows XP desktops. I have tried to use the GPO to delete local profiles but that didn't work. I tried using the Registry tweak deleteRoamingCache. But that also did not work. Since The desktops are windows XP, is it possible that the tweak should be applied somewhere else instead of here? User Authentication

The problem – When offsite I logon to my computer locally then I use a third party remote access provider to VPN into my office, but once connected through the VPN I’m not asked to provide any authentication against the server and therefore I have no access to the resources residing on the server. To work around the problem I have to map a network drive and provide \\server_name.domain_name.com\folder_name, then I’m asked to logon with LAN credentials. First after providing a valid usern_name@domain_name.com and the password I gain access to the server. Is there a way I could force an authentication to the server once that VPN is up and running so I wo…

Hi, Please i need help with this, searched the net and could not find any info. we have server2003 running Routing and Remote Access. we are starting to receive the event id 20084 Source Remote Access. this what it states The Remote Access Server will stop using IP Address xxxxxxx (either because it was unable to renew the lease from the DHCP Server, the administrator switched between static address pool and DHCP addresses, or the administrator changed to a different network for DHCP addresses). All connected users using IP will be unable to access network resources. Users can re-connect to the server to restore IP connectivity. The DHCP serv…

Delay Restart for scheduled installations Not Working
by Guest Mike- 5 replies

Hi, I have a GPO that sets "Delay Restart for scheduled installations" to enabled with a value of 15 minutes. Our Windows 2003 SP3 servers automatically download and install the updates at 6:00am after they are approved from WSUS. I want to delay the reboot by 15 mins to give our SQL server a chance to come online first. I set this policy but it is not working. I did run an RSOP and it is being applied. Any thoughts? Mike

Windows 2003 login scripts are empty
by Guest Callypso- 4 replies

Hi whoever reads this, I am a system administrator of a network of 30+ Windows 2003 servers wich I manage together with my other colleagues. Occasionally we have this problem that loginscripts suddenly stop working. When I check the \\localhost\netlogon share I find that several login scripts are 0KB and when I open them they turn out to be empty. This happens every once in a while and to several (changed) login scripts. Has anyone ever encountered this problem before or know what to do about it. It's a really annoying problem and neither me or my colleagues knows why. We have the same problem with GPO's so it would seem to be a replication problem…
