Domain Administrator permissions problem
by Guest Library Sysadmin- 3 replies

I've got an odd situation occurring with the domain administrator account. I log on to any domain server or workstation with the domain adminstrator account and map a network share to any shared folder on another server or workstation. If I try to access executable files on these shares, I am getting an error box saying that the user doesn't have permissions or rights. The domain admin account can open text files. If I log in using my own account (which is a member of the Domain Admins group) I can run any of these executable files in the same shares/folders/files. In checking the share permissions or folder NTFS security, the Domain Admins group,…

Having to restart print server
by Guest Matt- 6 replies
Hi, I have a Windows 2003 domain and we have a Genicom 5000 printer that ocassionally will not print until we restart the print service on the server. After that, it prints fine for awhile. This happens about once a week. It's the only printer on our network that does it. The firmware is up-to-date on it and it is using a Generic driver because it is a line printer. Any ideas as to what could be causing this? Thanks. Matt

Licensing problem
by Guest Denis- 1 reply
We have just re-located our Win2003 servers to a new office location, 2 servers one running Exchange. However since the move we have lost all our licenses for both Server and Exchange, including the 5 "integrated" licenses that come with each Win2003Std Server. (as displayed by the Licensing Manager via Admin tools). I have now re-entered all the licence details available (on our open licence sheme) from the Eopen website. The Licence Manager displays the entered licenses but still shows that none have been purchased and shows all users as being unlicensed. I have waited approx' 12 hours since entering the details to allow for an auto-update if it is re…

Windows 2003 SP1 PDC announces itself as stratum 1
by Guest brilleslange@gmail.com- 0 replies

Hi all, I have the following setup: NTP client: Single domain controller (Windows 2003 SP1) with w32time service running. Being the only DC in the domain (and forest), it has all FSMO roles including the PDC-role. NTP server: GNU/Linux running ntpd at stratum-2. The w32time service har been configured using: "net time / setsntp:<ip_of_linux_ntp_server>" + net stop/start w32time. Problem: When starting the w32time service (or when running "w32tm /resync"), the PDC announces itself as being a stratum-1 server, so when the NTP- server - being a stratum-2 server - receives NTP requests from the PDC, it silently ignores the requests from the PDC. …

Problem with VPN setup
by Guest Yig- 9 replies
Hi, I have used Routing and Remote Access on my Windows 2003 SP2 server to create a VPN server. It is working, but not like I was expecting. I granted permissions to a few users but when they connect, they can only access the server with the VPN, not the rest of the network. I have a firewall in front of it but it allows VPN passthru and port 1723 is forwarded to the server. What do I need to check to make sure that the network is available? Thanks!

System Monitor on Win2K3 vs Win2K
by Guest TroubleMan- 0 replies

I have noticed that performance logs created on 2K3 three boxes take alot longer to open than on 2K boxes. If I have two identical servers collecting the same counters in system monitor the 2K3 box takes alot longer to open the same size log file. The only differnce between the servers is the OS. Any ideas on what to look for? So far I have: Tried the test on two newly built servers Tried to open the log file on servers that did not create the log file Rebuilt the performance counters per Microsoft KB

I work in a HS environment and I am trying to standardize the look of the Default Profile every student gets the first time they logon and use roaming locked profiles. Here is what I have done: 1. Logon to a system as a "Template" account and make all required changes to background, desktop, start menu, IE settings, ect. 2. Reboot and login as the administrator and copied the Profile to DC\NETLOGON\Default User. 3. When my users first logon, they do not get the profile I specified, but when I login the 2nd time they do. Weird. But what I have found is that I have specified a particular background which is on every machine in the Default User …

C Drive Question
by Guest Bruce- 2 replies
I am running out of space on server's C drive and so I ran the WinDirStat application to see what directory was using up the most space. FYI this server is a DC and it is my WINS and DNS server as well. What I have uncovered is that the C:\WINNT\Installer directory is over 2GB in size. Would I cause serious harm or damage to my server if I deleted the *.msp files and others from this directory? Thank you in advance for any suggestions.

by Guest Eddie- 2 replies

I have a client running windows 2003 standard edition sp2. they are telling me they have roughly 1200 scheduled tasks for the ftp server. they are saying 1300 is the limit. Is this true? and if it is then how do we increase this? does windows 2003 enterpprise edition allow for more. I have never heard of this. there is no way they can reduce the number of tasks and they are saying it will increase over the next 6 months. Thanks for the help. Ed

This problem is related with the one described earlier in several newsgroup and that is: After I installed the SP1 on Windows 2003 , I cannot connect to the Service control manager database remotely. If I try to connect to it, it gives me an Access denied error. To solve this problem I have added the domain group(S-1-5-21-2052111302-790525478-839522115-342353) with the correct rights on SCM object. Now i am able to connect remotely and obtain a list of services. However when i double click on a service i get the message. Configuration manager: Access denied. However when i click on Ok i can still manage the IdolAdminHub71 service. (stop/start). When …
