We have a client that has 2 Server 2003 boxes. DC01 is the DNS server and DC02 has a fresh copy of Exchange installed. When I forward the MX records, it should go to DC02, correct? Thanks.

Is there are a rule of thumb for how much available memory there should be on a Windows Server 2003? I'm down to about 10% on my SQL Server and also on my separate Exchange server. Both of them have 2 GB. Thanks, Matt

SAM Active Directory Response - user unknown
by Guest Jeff- 3 replies
Hey I have 2 computers in my home network: pc1 has winXPpro+sp2 and pc2 has win2k3 the win2k3 machine is the domain controller in this domain, DNS automatically configured when creating Active Directory From the winXP machine I'm having problems connecting to shared folders on the win2k3 machine. Today I installed Wireshark on the win2k3 machine so I could sniff on the network trafic coming to the win2k3 machine. To my surprise the win2k3 machine received these network requests (among many other requests): (SMB_NETL) SAM Active Directory Resonse - user unknown (DNS) Standard query response, no such name (The request above came from when the win…

W2K Server SP4 Bootex.log
by Guest HulloSon- 0 replies

All; C:\bootex.log is a 0 byte file that chkdsk can't delete when the server boots. Q218461 describes enhanced chkdesk and all that but doesn't specifically address what to do in this situation. I found a tip for XP that looks promising, but don't know if it applies to W2K ; The fix is to run under the Recovery console by either booting from the Windows XP CD or running \i386\winnt32.exe on the Windows XP CD with the argument /cmdcons. When in the console, run chkdsk.exe /p to fix the file. Then type del c:\bootex.log to remove the offending file. Reboot, and all is taken care of. My idea is to boot into Safe Mod and try to delete it, or install MoveOnBoot,…

by Guest MSExchangeStudent- 5 replies

Hi all I have a GP that prevent users to add a printer so obviously if i want to install a printer i need to log off and on as the admin. When i do that i can install the printer succesfully but when i log back on as the user i cannot see the printer. How do i overcome this BTW , what i then did was to make the user a domain admin and i could instll the printer but obviously that is the wrong way. I also do not want to disable the GPO as they delete and change settings in their printer setup. craig Win xp pro and Win 2003 Server

Exchange 2003 Mobile Sync
by Guest thomasJ- 0 replies
Hi. I'm trying to sync my i-mate k-jam with a Exchange 2003 server. I'm the administrator of this server, but not the one that installed it (handed over without documentation) ActiveSync against this server has never worked, so I though I'd give it a go. This server is an Exchange 2003 server with SP2 installed and SSL enabled. The certificate is a RapidSSL certificate witch is installed on the i-mate (browsing OWA works without a hitch) Tried both with and without SSL enabled, but this is giving me various errormessages. The current one when syncing over GPRS is: 0x85030022 (The server you are connecting to is not an Exchange server ....) As sa…

Default UserPrincipalName at Logon
by Guest cs_camper@gmx.net- 0 replies

Hello, i've set up an active directory based on windows server 2003. in this environment it is not possible that the UPN and the SAM-accountname is the same. So at logon the users habe to type in their full UPN (<first name>.<surname>@mydomain.com). Is it possible to tell the winlogon process to use a default upn- suffix at logon so the users have only to type in their name withouth suffix like it is with the SAM-accountname?? Greetz Stefan

Dead Disk 0 in 2003 mirror
by Guest lasangne- 6 replies
Hello, I have a blade with 2 disks that were software mirrored. Disk 0 failed, dead, it has been replaced but I could not boot from either disk, no matter what boot.ini modifications I made. Finally I reinstalled Windows 2003 Server on Disk 0, booted, modifyed the boot.ini and rebooted from Disk 1 (former mirror). Now I want to recreate the mirror but I cannot do so because I cannot empty Disk 0 as the Blade boots from Disk 0. My question now is: If I change the boot.ini file on Disk 1 to boot from Disk 1 and I change the BIOS settings so that the first boot device is Disk 1, will it boot, so that I can empty Disk 0 and recreate the mirror to the replaced…

Re: Shadow copying the specified volume is not supported??? 2003 Server http://bertk.mvps.org/html/eerrormsgsv.html#3 That link may help. Simply make sure, "\System Volume Information" is NOT read only. Also, if that does not help, try this method (originally for Windows Server 2003, but works with Vista as well): http://adsm.org/forum/showpost.php?p=24633&postcount=3 I did both, and am now able to create system restore points. P.S. Also make sure "Volume Shadow Copy" is not disabled in your services. -- vpoet ------------------------------------------------------------------------ vpoet's Profile: http://forums.techarena.in/member.php?us…

Server 2003 R2 x64 SP2 taking forever to install
by Guest robr- 6 replies
I've installed many service packs, but never this particular one and this just doesn't seem right. I'm using RDP to install SP2 and it completed downloading and started installing approximately 3 hours ago and the progress bar is maybe 15% of the way done. It does seem to still be running. This is a brand new clean Server 2003 install, the very first thing I did after installing was run Windows Update. This is on a Dell PowerEdge 2850 with 4gig of memory and a 15K SCSI drive. Any ideas or is this actually "normal"?

Backups fail and generate Event ID 12302
by Guest brad- 5 replies

Hi, I'm using Backup Exec 11d to backup system state and shadow copy components on a Windows 2003 Server domain controller. Jobs are failing and generating Event ID 12302, as follows: "Volume Shadow Copy Service error: An internal inconsistency was detected in trying to contact shadow copy service writers. Please check to see that the Event Service and Volume Shadow Copy Service are operating properly." Rebooting will fix the problem for a day or two but it keeps on coming back. Can anyone help me to fix this? Thanks for any assistance. -- bb
