Hello folks I'm currently setting a series of server upgrades, from Standard to Enterprise, so as to be able to use over 4GB RAM. All of these servers have severall versions of Oracle databases installed: v6, v10 and IAS. I've set up a test server and, so far, all seems ok, but I'd like to know if anyone here has had to do similar upgrades and, if so, if you found any problems. Thanks for any help

mandatory profile problem
by Guest Will Sellers- 7 replies

I have a mandatory profile setup for my student group. I have copied a common profile that all students will see when they log on. I renamed the ntuser.dat to ntuser.man. All students have the profile defined in their AD profile path. In my profile I have administrator and students defined in the security and permissions. When I look at the profile I can see the ntuser.man but somehow another ntuser.dat is being created. How can I prevent that from happening? Is there a way to prevent the creation of a local profile on the desktop?

Hello, I am getting the infamous "Operating system error 1450(Insufficient system resources exist to complete the requested service.)" error on a Windows 2003 Enterprise server with 8GB of memory and /3gb /PAE switches. I setup a counter in MOM to measure Pool Paged Bytes and it looks like we start running into issues when Pool Paged Byes reachs about 120MB. The syptoms range from sql backup failures to profiles not loading when techs trying adn RDP to the box (due to the fact windows cant load ntuser.dat). I have read some articles on how to increase the size of this pool but I would like to find out what our limit is now before I start making changes. C…

Could someone please send this to me? MS are being obstructive and unhelpful and I've lost pateince with them. I've tried charm, begging, sobbing and threats of self-harm ;) Why is this tool so elusive? Searching various groups and forums it seems many people have had the same problem with MS. Wasted hours so far, just want to extend the partition but the bug prevents it. Example.. See this - http://www.mcse.ms/message860030.html Or just search FSEXTEND.EXE Thanks!!

account lockout question ...
by Guest Scott W- 1 reply

Hello ... I have a domain with 7 DCs - I have an Admin who has not been able to use his account since the last time he changed his password. I've poured over NETLOGON logs and SECURITY event logs and something is running on 2 of the DCs that is locking his account. Whatever this is runs all day. His account is locked so often that he had to cerate a second account. As I was following the Troubleshooting Document for Account Lockout from Microsoft, I performed the next logical step and downloaded ALOCKOUT.DLL and installed it on one of the 2 DCs where the bad authentications were coming from. I was unable to see anything in the log file - So …

We have a Dell PowerEdge server and the OS mirrored volume needs to be upgraded to larger disks. Is there a better way to do this other than taking a backup, replacing the disks, re-installing the OS and then restoring from my backup? I'd like to avoid the server being down that long. I'm sure there must be some good products that can make this easier. Does anyone have one they swear by? Thanks

Computer management across two subnets?
by Guest cchcc- 3 replies

I'm trying to remotely connect and manage computers at our remote site using the mmc and I receive the following: "Computer \\computer-name cannot be managed. The network path was not found." I am, however, able to connect to the Win2K3 domain controller and manage it, just not the XPProSP2 workstations. I can ping the host names and IPs fine. We have a private MPLS site link with Cisco 1841 routers. Subnets are 192.168.1.0/24 and 192.168.2.0/24. I have assigned subnets in ADSS. Any ideas? I'm also ready to deploy SMS for support -will this also be impacted? I currently do not have a WINS server, as all of our workstations and servers are Win…

Schedule a script to run 15 Minutes after boot up?
by Guest Jon Osborn- 3 replies

I am cross posting this to microsoft.public.windows.server.general as well. Is their any way to put a delay that so that a Bat file will start about 15 minutes or so after boot up. May be in the bat file to do a count down or loop for so long before the rest of the Bat run? For some reason our DC (Win2003 R2 SP2) is dead for about 10 minutes after boot, no errors or anything, just not responsive to console or services (DHCP, DNS, etc ..) and it just works fine after about 10 minutes. The problem this causes is after a power outage our APC turns the server back op and a Wake-on-Lan BAT file runs and turns on all the other servers (10) but …
