Changing a key and activating a Win2003 Server without re-installi
by Guest Justin Admin- 1 reply

I built a Windows 2003 Standard server with software we currently own thinking I could (in the next 30 days) go out, buy another copy, change the key, and then activate it as per kb918342. About two weeks after I built the server I discovered a copy of Windows 2003 Server x64 that we own that is not in use. Since it's an x64 OEM version the current server won't accept the key, throwing a "The product key used to install Windows is invalid" message. Before it gets asked - yes the key and software are legit, both purchased from Dell as OEM, and no the license/key in question is not in use. Is there a way to "brute force" the key in and then activate it…

by Guest Tom Randolph- 1 reply

I have a freshly loaded Server 2003 R2 STD server. I downloaded System Center Virtual Machine Manager. When I try to run the executable that I downloaded, It tells me "Windows Cannot access the specified device, path, or file. You may not have the appropriate permissions to access the item." I have looked at the threads about trusted sites, it did not help. I have downloaded the file from Microsoft onto the machine and had to unblock the file, did not help. I downloaded the file to an Vista workstation and it will execute there. I copied the file from the Vista workstation, but it will not work on 2003. I added the Vista machine UNC to trusted sites and co…

DCOM Errors

Hi, I keep getting dcom errors in the event logs on my exchange server: The application-specific permission settings do not grant Local Activation permission for the COM Server application with CLSID {9DA0E103-86CE-11D1-8699-00C04FB98036} to the user GODALMING\kbock SID (S-1-5-21-1974806577-1378421116-311576647-4893). This security permission can be modified using the Component Services administrative tool. For more information, see Help and Support Center at http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/events.asp. So i go and look for a COM with that CLSID but i cannot find anything, Any ideas? Thanks, ieuuk

Hi, I have one "simple" question. How can I set up permissions-rights's for one user on win 2003 that will remotely connect to server and start only Internet Explorer. I must denied access to all other thing, and to folders and files on server. I know that this is "peace of cake" on server with domain, but this server is not part of domain.

Network Performance Drops to a Crawl after Installing DNS
by Guest Howard Swope- 10 replies

Windows 2003 Server RC2 SP2 3COM 3C940 GB Onboard NIC I recently installed 2003 server. Got the latest updates. I then set up this machine as a domain controller on a new forest and followed the the instructions to set up the DNS. Now if I try to do anything over the interent, I am lucky to get a full page to load. There seems to be all kinds of communications problems. If I stop the DNS and point everything over to my old server which I want to decomission when this one is up and running, all network performance is perfectly fine. Any thoughts?

by Guest Davide- 1 reply

E' possibile o meno far girare SQL express su Windows server web edition? Grazie mille, …

Remove Server from Domain and Rejoin, Implications?
by Guest Karl Burrows- 10 replies

I have been advised by Citrix in order to repair an installation of their Presentation Server to remove this server from the domain and rejoin it to clear an error I am having with this installation. This is not the DC, but it is our primary file and print server. What are the implications of removing this server? Will I lose shares, user permissions, mapped network drives, etc? If not, is there a preferred way of doing this with the least loss of network settings? Thanks!
