Change DNS server Serial Number Format.
by Guest SuperPlay- 0 replies

Hi Folks I there a way to change the format of the serial number which a Microsoft DNS server uses from a number i.e 1 then 2 then 3 etc to datechange? This is the report is from Dnsstuff.Com WARNING: Your SOA serial number is: 39. That is OK, but the recommended format (per RFC1912 2.2) is YYYYMMDDnn, where 'nn' is the revision. For example, if you are making the 3rd change on 02 May 2006, you would use 2006050203. This number must be incremented every time you make a DNS change. Cheers

Mapped Drives
by Guest MikeS- 3 replies

I have a Network with some 300 users. Ocassionally, a user( not always the same user) will try to access one of the mapped drives or print to a network printer and it will be unvailable. When you open "My Computer", all the mapped drives will have a Red "X" over them. The only way to get them back is to synchronize them. Can anyone tell me what is causing this and how to fix it? Thanks in advance, Mike

Net time on login script
by Guest Marc S- 6 replies

Prior consultants put the "net time" command into a login script. net time \\servername / set /y (the server name is the correct one) I get an eror when the script runs that the option is unavailable. The Syntax looks wrong in the script. Before I spend any time to fix this, does this need to be in the Login Script?

I have been connecting to 4 servers without fail for some time. In the past 2 weeks when I connect to a Windows 2003 SBS system the login is fine and the windows are drawn fine. When I move the mouse or click something it appears to freeze for about 5 seconds, then carries on with the operation for about 10 more seconds then freezes again. It appears as though its running on a 28.8kbps modem when using the mouse, but keyboard is fine. But, If I use only the keyboard to navigate round the windows it never freezes, but as soon as I move the most, it freezes again. * The server is running fine, with no errors or current issues. * If I open a webpage with a…

Internet Explorer Page setup
by Guest ray3d84- 0 replies

I am running windows server 2003 RC2 with citrix 4.0 installed. I have configured my Internet Explorer page setup with margins set to 0.75. Yet when my users log in to a citrix session and try to print it does not keep the margin settings. If I login locally to the server with each user account and the configure it keeps the correct settings. I would like to know how I can setup the settings so I do not have to login locally for each account. In other words I want that when any user logins in the session it automatically defaults to the 0.75 margins. ray3d84

Printer sharing
by Guest pavel- 2 replies

Hello, I'm having a problem setting up a network printer. Here's the situation: Server A is directly connected to the internet (Router A) and is running Windows 2003 Server. Router B is connected to the Router A. Printer A is connected to the Router B. Client 1-X are connected to the Router B. Server A and the Clients 1-X are all in the same VPN. Clients 1-X connect through the remote desktop to remote Server B, where they need to use the Printer A (in an app running on the Server B). The problem is, even if I connect the Server B to the same VPN as Clients 1-X are in, it fails to find the printer. The Printer A is properly installed and sharing is …

windows time is not accurate
by Guest Tigger- 2 replies

I have a windows 2003 server which is our domain controller. The time on the server is slow by about 8 minutes to the correct time. This in turn would cause the clients that login to the domain to be off also. How do you fix the time on the server so it is the correct time? Does the server sync with an external source?

WSUS Question after transferring to new server (Master or Upstream
by Guest Saral6978- 9 replies
I successfully set up a new Master server and now have my replicas sync'ing successfully after I ran through the export/import process of transferring the WSUS content from my original Master to my new one. However, there is one slight issue. When I log into the new Master/Upstream server, it basically says all updates need to be approved for installations, rather than where I had left off before the switch. Even if I do a sort for the last 2 months, it still brings up all the updates (going back years), which are like 1100+ updates. Is there any way to import the approval information from my original master server to the new one so it knows that I have i…

Adding hardware drivers to an existing install of windows.
by Guest Chris McKean- 0 replies

I have the following scenario with a Windows Server 2003 with SP2 server: If I need to use Symantec Ghost to transfer the data from one server machine, into a new machine of a different model, then the usual hope is that enough drivers are there that the machine will at least, boot up, and then missing ones can be installed. Unfortunately, the old machine does not contain drivers compatible with the new machine's RAID (Intel Matrix Strorage Manager) system. I need to avoid using something like sysprep for adding in the driver, as I need to maintain the install exactly as is. So I see two options: - Is there a way I can add these into the existing installatio…

A question for you server builders
by Guest dan- 0 replies

I'm getting ready to build a new server, from scratch. This will be for my test lab so it won't be mission critical but obviously I want it to be highly reliable. I'm pretty well set on the specifications for the server, but when it comes to the motherboard it looks like I have the choice of several manufacturers. Does anyone out there have any advice for me on server motherboard manufacturers that are highly recommended, or should be avoided? What's most important to me, beyond the feature set obviously, is a reputation for high quality, and technical support if needed. Any advice would be appreciated. Thanks.

What does this log file entry mean?
by Guest Stephen Quist- 0 replies

Hi, I got to looking at some of the log files on my WS2003 system. The file FrameWork.log in the directory C:\WINDOWS\system32\wbem\Logs has about 17Megs worth of lines that have this in them: Shell Name Explorer.exe in Registry not found in process list. 02/05/2008 21:27:51.941 thread:4556 [d:\nt\admin\wmi\wbem\providers\win32provider\common\implogonuser.cpp.1019] Unable to locate Shell Process, Impersonation failed. 02/05/2008 21:27:51.957 thread:4556 [d:\nt\admin\wmi\wbem\providers\win32provider\common\implogonuser.cpp.1027] This apparently has been going on for a long time. The d:\ drive is the system's DVD drive so the directory doesn't exist on …

"Errors Granted Access" Alert
by Guest Mr Troy- 0 replies

I'm trying to get this alert to function in and I'm struggling with it. I followed kb: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/300504 I've set the following: Counters: Errors Granted Access & Errors Logon Alert when the value is: Over & Limit is 1 Interval: 1 second Actions: Log & Send a network message I then created a share on the member server from where I'm configuring alerts and tried accessing both the share and a test file within the share. I see no alerts in the event viewer or any network messages. Any ideas? Thank you for your time!
