Robocopy
by Guest Dave D- 3 replies

Good morning, I have a couple of questions on the Robocopy utility. Hoping someone can answer. I'm curious on how it copies files. If I copy an entire folder on one day and then copy it again a couple of days later, what gets copied the second time? I understand that the second copy doesn't replace already copied files that haven't changed. Will files from the source location that have been updated get copied and replace older files? And will files that have been updated on the target location get over written? Make sense what I am asking?? Thanks much..

I see the following issues on my Distrib folder in some of the remote sites domain controller where DFS replication is enabled. \\Domain\Distrib\NtFrs_PreExisting_See_Eventlog This should be showing up as \\Domain\Distrib\Appdist What could be the problem. I am checking the event logs and don't see much. I am also using Ultrasound and I don't see anything in that either. thanks in advance!

It used to be with regular 2003 server, that you could install the web admin console / page.. and in there you could do scheduled reboots or instant reboots of the servers, remotely... Is such a feature available with r2 somewhere, as an addon or 3rd party tool? Thanks

I've read the Technet information about WDS and I'm a little confused about a couple things: I have Server 2003 R2 SP2....do i need the WAIK or anything from it to get this work? What is BDD? I'm wanting to deploy XP machines using WDS in native mode (is this possible?)... Just kind of confused as everything kind of pertains to Vista/2008 and no real good instructions for xp. Do you just set up the WDS Configure boot images or whatever (i'm not sure where to get boot images from) Set up a refrence xp machine boot that machine from pxe and run some capture image wizard then to use it you'd boot a machine to the pxe and use some apply image wi…

L2TP certificate for VPN connection
by Guest Peter Herijgers- 0 replies
Hi All, I have a computer (PC1) which is connected to a Server 2003 standard computer. Now I want to make a VPN connection between a client (somewhere on the internet) and PC1 not to the Server2003. If I use PPTP everything is working fine. But for more security I want to use L2TP/IPSec. If I want to make a connection with a client computer to the PC1 I am getting a message that I need a certificate. Both computers, client and server (in this case by server I mean PC1) have certificates from the server2003. That is Root certificates and user certificates. I think I need an IPsec certificate for the client computer to establish a connection to PC1. …

Hi all I have some sata cages installed in my w2k3 server to use for backups. What I need to do is create a couple of scripts that I can schedule to dismount and remount a drive. This way the staff can just swap the drives without worrying about logging on and stopping them as the card for the drives is not hot swap Can anyone point me in the right direction as I don't have a clue where to start Cheers Glenn

I've set up WSUS, set the group policy settings, and select the updates i wanted to install. For some reason the updates are not installed at the specified time which i set to sunday at 3:00 AM. I know the server is set correctly in group policy since the computers report correctly to the wsus server. Any help on this would be appreciated.

GPO Problems
by Guest Barkingmadscot- 3 replies

I am having problems with GPO's in general. Firstly i am having issues with gpupdate taking an age to fail - I have found fixes for this, i am waiting no microsoft sending me a hotfix but another problem i have found is: I have some GPo's which can only be applied for a group of either computer or uses. In the AD for Computer Users i can add to this group - no problems I then added this group as the only group that can access it in the GPO scope in the security filtering. once confirmed, i double click the group and i get 'the requested lookup key was not found in any active activation context' I know this is a IE7 issue, i have/had IE7 on my PC…
