Remote desktop problem
by Guest Will Sellers- 3 replies

We decommissioned Server A. Server B is now the primary DC. When I tried to access a member server via remote desktop I get access denied. Prior to decommissioning of Server A this was not a problem. Any ideas on what I may have missed during the change?

What does 'R2' signify...
by Guest v2win- 4 replies

What does the 'R2' designation mean for certain MS products? For example, Windows Server 2003, Virtual Server 2005, etc. have alternate versions with the same name except with R2 appended (e.g., Windows Server 2003 Enterprise Edition R2). What is the difference between the R2 and non-R2 designated products? Thx -- V2

Well, today i applied the KB943485 patch to my SBS 2003 and Standard 2003 server in my domain.... I rebooted and bang... using the administrator (builtin) account would refuse to log in. The error was.... Local Security Policy won't permit interactive login This account would log - in fine before the patch's were applied. I applied KB941644 and KB943485 and I believe that the 485 was the one that changed security settings. I looked in the Domain Controller Security settings and the Administrator account is set to allow local login and it is not denied interactive login in any of the policy groupings.... I could log in using a normal user a…

Switching MPS Multiprocessor to ACPI
by Guest Will- 1 reply

I have Windows 2000 server running as a virtual machine and device manager is showing the computer device running ACPI Multiprocessor and everything works fine. A nearly identical Windows 2000 server is running in identical virtual machine but device manager is showing the computer device running MPS Uniprocessor. Any time I attempt to upgrade the device driver to run ACPI, the system blue screens on the next reboot. What is the trick to convert from MPS to ACPI assuming you are starting off with Windows 2000 running MPS? -- Will

Which BackUp Software
by Guest allanc- 4 replies

We are running a small network (2 users) on a Windows 2003 Server with SQL Server 2005. We have not installed Exchange. We can schedule a backup with no users on the network. Our concern right now is to be able to create a complete backup that is relatively easy to restore to the same server. In other words, a complete image. Are there advantages to using a third party commercial backup as opposed to NTBackup? Thank you in advance.

HOW TO SEARCH FOR FILES ON WINDOWS 2008
by Guest JJ Jones- 2 replies
Hello out there, I am running Windows 2008 Server. Microsoft has apparently changed the simple SEARCH utility that hangs off of the START button in XP. In other words, in XP you click on START, then click on SEARCH, then FOR FILES OR FOLDERS. Simple as pie. Unfortunately, somebody has apparently come up with a "better idea" in Windows 2008 because SEARCH isn't there anymore, and I can't figure out where they put it. I can't find anything in the documentation. Does anybody know where Microsoft hid the SEARCH function? Please help, since it is driving me stark, raving, mad. Thanks,

Win2k3/IIS6.0/Exchange2003
by Guest NuBee- 2 replies

I'm not sure if I'm in the correct place for this question. Anyway, I have a win2k3 SP2 machine as a PDC with IIS6.0 insatlled (not sure if that is too secure). On another win2k3 SP2 (not a DC), I have Exchange 2003. I have performed domain and forest prep. On the PDC, when I try to install FrontPage server extensions on IIS6.0, it will not do it. Any suggestions? -- NuBee

On a Windows 2003 server, I cannot use the Help service. When I try to use it, I receive an error message telling me that the Help and Support service is not running and that I should start it from the services applet. The problem is that there is no "Help and Support" service visible in the services console screen. Does anyone know what is going on? Thanks.

WinRM installation and IIS
by Guest TripleSticks- 1 reply

This may not be the appropriate forum for this question, so if it isn't I apologize ahead of time. Any help in what forum it belongs in would be appreciated. We have been prototyping an application with WinRM and have been very happy with it's capabilities. However, it seems to require IIS be running on the Windows 2003 Server that you are attempting to manage. After re-reading the System Requirements on the download page and looking through the MS WinRM information I see no mention of this anywhere. However, if you look at the WinRM service it clearly has a dependency on the IIS Admin Service. We are trying to manage member servers that don't have…

The migration tool out there seems to migrate domains and controllers. Any help really appreciated. Thanks, Janet

unable to register a dll - "access is denied"
by Guest everymn@yahoo.com- 2 replies

Hi, I'm trying to register an ActiveX dll on a remote Windows Server 2003 Enterprise 32 Bit system using Remote Desktop. I've tried both regsrv32, and Reggie.exe to do this, and both give me the same error: regsvr.exe LoadLibrary("c:\WINDOWS\system32...")failed - Access is denied reggie.exe HRESULT == 0X80070005 Access is denied I'm logged on as a user that is a member of the administrators group that has full permissions to the dll itself. I checked the local security settings and I don't see anything in there that would seem to apply to this condition. The Remote Registry Service is running and I am able to make manual changes to the registry usi…
