uninstall with msiexec
by Guest Frank- 0 replies

I'm trying to uninstall a product that was not installed via Group Policy in order to install an update that will be done through Group Policy. My attempt has been to remove the existing one via a Shutdown script in Group Policy (computers) using the following: msiexec /X "\\network path\abc.msi I've tried several command line switches, such as /quiet /QB, QN and I always get the prompt "Are you sure you want to uninstall this product". I even tried msiexec /X{GUID} from uninstall in the registry. I don't want that prompt. Minimally, a progress bar would be nice OR nothing at all until the PC shuts down. How can I remove that prompt and go straigh…

Domain/URL names the same (no email)
by Guest wilscott1st@yahoo.com- 3 replies

Our company finally got a web page up and running yesterday afternoon. The company that is hosting the website went and changed the public DNS records yesterday and Whammo! No email. The URL and Domain names are the same: (http://mydomain.com VS username@mydomain.com) Doing a lookup at dnsstuff.com I can see that the MX record now points to the web-server at the company that's hosting the website. It also *looks* like the reverse lookup is pointing to our exchange server inside our domain (public ip) however, no email is getting through to us inside the domain from outside the domain. We can send mail out and to each other succesfully. My Question: Do I ne…

Hello All, I'm running a Win2003 server with the latest updates, configured as an Exchange / Domain server. I was wondering if anyone can tell me how to get my Date and Time control panel to show me the "Internet Time" tab. I looked around in the Add/Remove Windows Components, but didn't find anything that looked like it. My "Windows Time" service is running though. I was wondering if anyone could please offer any advice? Thanks, Chris

Windows' printer share "disappears" at nearly the same time everyweekday?
by Guest Rob Gordon- 4 replies

I have a really bizarre one.. We have a Windows 2003 R2 Standard server (fully patched), acting as a dedicated print server. There are three networked printers fed off the server, all of the same make/model, using the same version of the printer driver and all on the same subnet. Each printer is shared out as both a Windows shared printer and as an LPR spool for Linux users. Every morning at nearly the exact same time, one of these printer's loses its share on the server and everyone mapped to it can't print. I can easily go into the server and reshare the printer and everything is fine, but it's ONLY that one share that disappears. There is nothi…

Win2K3 Servers continue reverting from SP2 to SP1
by Guest Allyn- 3 replies

We have a few Win2K3 servers that have had SP2 installed on them a couple times. SP2 will show up for a while, maybe a few months, and in the process of doing some maintenance we'll see they have reverted to SP1. We're puzzled at this, as no one in IT is removing them. Has anyone else experienced this? Thank you.

The Quickbooks database server on SBS
by Guest Tom Del Rosso- 10 replies

The Quickbooks database server apparently needs an admin to stay logged in while it runs. I'm wondering if you can make it run as a service or in a startup script. The fact that it also closes when you close it instead of minimizing to the tray makes it look pretty lame. What's the trick to make it work, or do you chuck it and let a workstation control access to the shared file? It seems to be designed to search for QBW files on a whole drive instead of simply remembering the folder you select. Are users supposed to open the file as before and rely on the manager to act transparently? This mechanism is strange for a database server. Does it hook file acce…
