Stumped!

Hi All, Hope someone has seen this problem and has a solution. I have a Windows 2003 SP1 member server of a Windows 2003 domain. Every few days the server will stop accepting connections to shares, printers, RDP attempts, etc. The clients will receive an error message similar to "Access Denied". When this happens, I am able to log on at the console. Hoever, I cannot hit the Internet. If I run Netdiag, all of the domain type tests fail. Netdiag is normal when the problem is not occurring. In the Event Viewer is an event 5719 that contains the following text: "This computer was not able to set up a secure session with a domain controller in domain Doma…

Help me with DNS problem I created (very stupid)
by Guest pez- 1 reply

I posted this over on the DNS group. But I will post here too because more people read this group. Last week we were having issues with our ISP's DNS so I pushed a GP to set our primary DNS to use OpenDNS. Obviously this broke active directory. So I changed the GP back. But all my Xp clients that were pushed the GP update needed to be fixed. After disjoining and rejoining to the domain their DNS was set back to our internal DNS servers. I am having trouble with one laptop. No matter what I do I cannot get the laptop to forward DNS queries to our internal name server. From the command prompt if I type nslookup it still displays the open DNS name server. I…

GPT Disk Signature
by Guest jas- 0 replies
Hi The WMI class Win32_DiskDrive has a property Signature and it correctly shows disk signature for MBR disks. However for GPT disks this filed is null. (Since GPT signature is GUID and Signature property is of type INT32 it is not possible to show it here anyway). Is there any other new WMI class to represent GPT disks? Is it possible to get GPT disk signature from WMI? BTW, I am using Windows 2008 RC1. Thanks and Regards jas

RDP restart not working
by Guest mrants- 2 replies

I have noticed on a few full y patched servers that when I choose to restart the computer, the RDP session closes and the server "reboots". I try to connect a few minutes later and cannot. After more investigation the server never actually reboots, rebooting the server fixes the problem. Has anyone seen this and know of a resolution? Thanks

VBScripting Issue with System Administration Script
by Guest adrianr- 3 replies

Hello, I hope this is the correct group to send this to.... I've written a vbscript that searches through a file system and reports on files that have not been accessed in xx days. I pulled a lot of the code from scripting guys examples. My scripts works fine until I get to a folder that the script does not have access to. With 'On Error Resume Next' configured, I check to see if 'err' is <> 0 and if so, write the problem folder to a dictonary object before clearing the error and then resuming the script. My problem is that for some unknown reason, my script always picks up the next folder in the sequence and reports an error on that too - even i…

Accessing users windows shares on webbrowser?
by Guest Alan- 2 replies

Hi, We are currently in the final stages of planning a move from Novell file servers to Microsoft windows file servers. Our Novell server offers the ability for users to login and see there network drive letters on a webbrowser, where they can download and upload, and perform file operations on there network files and folders. The product that allows this is called Novell NetStorage.(http://www.novell.com/products/openenterpriseserver/netstorage.html) Is there a similar comparable product to allow you to login to the windows domain, and see your network drives and windows shares on a web page? Our users will miss this feature immensly, so i need to fin…

server 2008 GP
by Guest MNews- 0 replies

Dont know if anyone has seen this or even if this is the correct group. I have a lab setup with a mix of 2003/ 2008 DCs. and a mix of vista and XP. I set a key on GP for 'Display information about previous logons during user logon' and after that no vista or 2008 machine could logon to the domain. The only remedy so far was to logon the server 2008 machine and revert the GP. Has anyone else experienced this? I read that MS doesnt consider it a bug, but a security enhancement. Quite a surprise if suddenly no Vista/ 2008 machines in a 2003 domain can not login. Carl

How to add a dialog to Windows Server 2003 startup?
by Guest eaguilar- 2 replies
Hi, Does anybody know how I can add a dialog box to Windows Server 2003, to be displayed when users access a particular servers or group of servers? For example, this dialog would display legal info or server usage privacy policies, etc, before the user even gets the default log on dialogs... Also, on the same idea, where would a particular server store this info, if it already had this dialog working? I have access to a group of servers that have this feature, but I cannot find where this info is stored or where it can be configured... Thanks lot in advance, </edwin>

VSS Client Problem
by Guest Andy McKnight- 3 replies

Hi, We've had VSS running on a few of our servers for a while without any problems until this morning. Our primary file server now shows "No previous versions available" under the previous versions tab. The Drive on the server shows that shadow copies are being made twice a day and it's holding the last six weeks. Browsing \\localhost\drive$\ from the server allows me to see and restore those copies. So the problem appears to be just with the clients. Anyone seen this before? Andy.

by Guest Marco- 9 replies

Hi. I would like to develop a system to make backups to computers or only for outlokk folder of computers. I have a software on my FP server that backup daily my files. But I have a problem. My users have their own PST files in their PCs into a specific folder. I would like to build a system that would allow me to backup their PST in to a server. No to add those files to my daily backup because there's not enough space in the tapes for that. For me just a symple copy past would be great. The problem with copy past is that users forgot to close outlook. I tried with nt backup, but I think that NTbackup cannot copy PST files if their being use…

remote boot on diskless workstations - how to?
by Guest SimonX- 0 replies

I have idea to remote boot on diskless stations from image of an installed WinXP or Win2k3 from our server (win2k3 SP2). I have tried some ideas "how to" from web but without success... I tried these methods: 1.) no-RIS, DHCP (service of win2k3), TFTP (TFTPD32.exe), boot file mba.pxe from imagedit.exe (3Com utility), which is pointing to right image. Problem: a size of image and making og bootable image from installed Win32 OS. Startup diskette of Win98SE I remote boot without problem but this is end of this solution. How to make bootable image from HDD partition formated by NTFS??? 2.) same, but there is booting by memdisk/pxelinux.0. Very comfortable,…
