Hello, We are wanting to install service pack 2 on one of our Windows Server 2003 machines which is running IIS6.0 and we need to know if this will stop the service during the period of the install. We understand it will need to stop on a reboot but will it stop during the complete installation of Service Pack 2. Thanks for responses in advance.

Hi all, I have a Dell PE 2950 server with a single hardware Raid 5 volume (Basic Disk 0) with 6 drives and a total size of 4655.00 GB. It has 2 partitions: 39MB Dell Utilities Partition 200GB System Boot Partition - C:\ For some reason Disk Management is showing the remaining unallocated space in 2 chunks instead of 1.So it shows the following: 1847.96GB Unallocated 2607.00 GB Unallocated Why is that? I want to create 1 big partition (D:\) with all the remaining unallocated space and I cannot do that now. TIA!

"Do not display last username" with Remote Desktop on Server 2008
by Guest Timothy- 5 replies

I just deployed my first Server 2008 box in our internal environment for testing. We do nearly all management via remote desktop. One of our corporate security policies is to NOT show the last logged on user, to prevent information disclosure of our admin usernames. We use a GPO in our domain to control the "Interactive logon: Do not display last username" setting to set it to ENABLED for all servers. This works on all Server 2003 boxes flawlessly. The Server 2008 box works when you are at the physical console, but when you remote desktop, you are presented with the "logon icons" where you can select the last user or "other user." This behavior vio…

Cannot add printer - W2008
by Guest ThomasAJ- 1 reply

It's a PDF printer on another PC on the network. Had no problems when doing same in W2003. So I click on 'add printer'; a search is done for printers and it is there; I select it; then get a message "The server for the 'XYZ' printer does not have the correct printer driver installed.". I click OK on the next screen and it will only show INF files. There are no INF files for this printer anywhere. -- Regards Tom

Certificate Issue
by Guest Chris- 1 reply

I have a Certificate Issue. I'm trying to pick up the pieces after I took over the administration for a new client. They use RPC over HTTP to allow outside users to access their Exchange Server. The certificate points to a certain domain which expired over the weekend. I.e. the Issued to: field in the certificate points to a domain that is no longer valid. I need to issue a new certificate that points to the new domain. The prior tech support left a certreg file with a .txt extension that begins with: -----BEGIN NEW CERTIFICATE REQUEST----- and ends with: -----END NEW CERTIFICATE REQUEST----- If I submit a new request in the CA using this…

using a backup server
by Guest Phil Rushton- 5 replies

I have two identical servers a main and a backup. Both running 2003 sr2 and terminal services in a workgroup. User profiles and documents are all stored on the main server. I want to be able to synchronize the main server with the backup server so that all I have to do is unplug one and plug in the other so people can carry on working. What is the best practice for doing this? I tried using Backup and Restore but when I log onto the backup server it creates a second empty profile. I named the backup server identical to the first. -- Regards Philip A Rushton ICT Officer 029 2052 7187 http://www.age-concern-cardiff.org.uk Why not visit our onli…

Cooling Server Room

Hi all I am looking at locating 5 servers on a rack in a 2m x 2m cupboard. The heat load seems rather high to me - can anyone comment please? Looking at the specs for the various kit, they quote Btu/hr figures. The new servers give 3990 Btu/hr and the old ones (to be re-used) 1850 Btu/hr. Are these figures the actual dissipated heat that needs to be removed via the air-con or is there some sort of service factor (reduction) to be applied. Allowing for some future contingency I get a conservative figure of approx 30,000 Btu/hr. From my DIY experience, this is enough to heat a small house!! Any advice on the size and type of air-con unit appropriate …

Upgrading Window 2000 server to Windows 2003 server
by Guest John- 6 replies

I have a Windows 2000 SP4 server that runs our accounting system. The CFO wants to upgrade the accounting system but this requires a higher version of Windows. How difficult or easy is it to upgrade a Windows 2000 server to Windows 2003? This server just runs the accounting system, no other applications. Should I just replace the server with a server that already has Windows 2003? Thanks, John

Cleanup Utility Installation
by Guest Dave- 0 replies

I am having difficulty installing the cleanup utility on windows server 2008 64 bit standard. When I run msicuu2.exe as administrator I get an error message saying "can not change to destination folder". There does not appear to be anymore error information. I downloaded the file from http://support.microsoft.com/kb/290301 That page seems to suggest that the utility should be supported on the OS. Any ideas?

Patch/application testing procedures & criteria.
by Guest Barkley Bees- 0 replies

For our patch testing process we install our internally approved patches to the lab environment systems (servers and clients). We then follow a basic checklist to see if any post install errors/issues arise - such as application problems and basic functionality. We also verify the all the event logs to for any issues. If no problems are found we then approve these pathes for production deployment. For our servers, we take backup images, using True Image (during our monthly maintenance window), applying any patches so we are able to roll back if any issues arise. I imagine many of you follow a similar process but would like to know what you folks use for…

Zeus is not accessible. You might not have permission to use thisnetwork resource.
by Guest theinvisibleGhost- 2 replies

We connect to a Win2k3 Fileserver via VPN. We have both Vista and XP machines connecting in. So that users don't have to remember the IP Address we have added an entry to the hosts files of the client machines - giving the server the name Zeus. When accessing Remote Desktop or other services this works fine. However when accessing files shares, \\Zeus we get the following message: "Zeus is not accessible. You might not have permission to use this network resource." If however we enter the IP address of the same machine into the file browser it accesses it no problem. This is happening on all the client machines, so I'm thinking it must be a server issue, b…

RE: Accounts assigned to services Hi All I am in the process of renaming our admin account on the domain and changing the password. Just want to know if there is a quicker way other than popping onto all the servers and seeing if this account is used on any of them to host services. Cheers Baz
