How to resize the system partition?
by Guest WetBehindEars- 0 replies

Is it safe to use PartionMagic on a Windows Server 2003 box? I have a client who's system partitioin is just about full and I'd rather resize the partition instead of purchasing 3 new SCSI drives and installing them (RAID-5). I have moved everything I can possibly move from the system partition, so my options are PartitionMagic (if its feasable) or order them 3 new larger drives and rebuild it. Could I take out one of the old drives and put the newer larger drive in and let that rebuild itself? Then do that with the other 2 new lager drives? What is the best way to go when having to replace a RAID-5 drive setup?

Configuring manage printer permissons
by Guest Paul- 1 reply

Hi, We currently have a central server running 2003r2 which is managing printers for the servers. We have the option of manually amending the security rights via the print management console however as we are looking to roll out 50 more servers with roughly 4 printers per server, automatic security policy would aid us to ensure that a standard security structure is in place. We would like to assign a helpdesk group rights to manage printers but not to allow them local admin or power user rights. Is there any way of setting up a script in group policy to achieve the automatic assignment of printer security rights on the servers? Thanks P…

Hello, We have a Windows 2003 server which someone else has done a "clean insall" of the operating system. Now we are configuring some 3rd party software that requires we have access to the mail icon in the control panel, yet we do not have the typical mail icon in the control panel. My question is, which component during a windows install is the one that places that icon in the control panel, so I can add it from Add /Remove Windows Components. Any tips welcome.. Thanks

http 500 error accessing remote files via perl's lwp::simple
by Guest Michael- 0 replies

Hi - I'm trying to access a file via a perl script that works on windows NT server, but it doesn't work on 2003 server. It tries to go out an d get a file via http, retrieve & store it locally (lwp::simple mirror command). There doesn't seem to be a problem with creating a file locally, I can do that when I test that separately. I get an HTTP 500 error. My question is this: does Win2003 server need something specially set up to allow a call out via http like this to happen. Of course, regular web browsing and file downloading is fine, but perhaps this is using a different method of http or something? Thanks

Search inside .BAS and .FRM files
by Guest Nick- 2 replies

Search inside .BAS and .FRM files We are trying to search network shared directories and NEED to look inside ..BAS and .FRM file formats for specific word or characters strings. These files can be opened with a basic text editor but the built-in Microsoft Search engine will not look into these files. I was told by a Microsoft Senior Product Manager that certain file extensions have been removed from the searching engine in order to speed up searches. I don't know if this is true but I do know that I cannot currently search inside these files now. Is there a registry hack or other means that would let us search inside these files? We have File ser…
