Problem with offline files in Vista and OpportunisticLocking
by Guest Matt Colliver- 0 replies
For those who have not come across this – any (Windows) SBS 2003 server where opportunistic locking is disabled will prevent Vista from syncing offline files. See http://support.microsoft.com/kb/296264/en-us for more info. Windows XP pro etc will however work fine. The problem is that if you need to disable Opportunistic locking – and there are quite valid reasons for doing this, then well, you can’t sell Vista if the client wants offline files. One workaround is to host the application requiring OppLock disabled on one server, and do the offline files from another server. But this is not the theory behind a “Small” business Server – i.e. Small business which can’t a…

hello all, i got a big problem, i get a 0x0000006F Session3_initialization_failed error on my server. the server was working fine till the DNS service stopt, after looking in logs i could`nt find anything so i rebooted the server. after reboot i got the error. after googeling i find a solution to fixmbr and chkdsk the harddrive in the recovery console from windows 2003 server setup, butt you have to enter a administrator password. i have enterd the password about 25 times and still it says it`s the wrong password. so is there a other way to get in to the recovery console or is there a better solution to fix this problem. regards reugebrink

upgrade to 2003
by Guest mtler- 1 reply

I need to upgrade Windows 2000 Standard SP4 to Windows 2003 R2 SP2 Enterprise. C: drive contains OS and it is size of 15GB. E: drive (960 GB) contains data - 15 million tiff images (5kb - 25kb). Is the fact that E: drive is so big and has high number of small files going to slow down the upgrade? I have a limited time frame (few hours) for the upgrade and I want to make sure that the upgrade completes within my time frame. What potentially might be other factors that may slow down the upgrade process? Thank you.

Slow File Access on Windows Server 2000 Network
by Guest metahugh@yahoo.com- 2 replies

Hey everyone, I have a client that has two sites: Their main site and one remote site. The remote site is experiencing slow network performance opening files across the WAN connection. It's a Metro LAN setup utilizing Cisco 1800 series routers and Cisco 3400 ME Series Metro Ethernet switches. The ISP is telling me that part of the problem is there are no WINS servers configured on the DHCP scope installed on the 1800 router at the remote site. I can't see how not configuring a WINS server would cause this problem; name resolution performs properly through DNS. Any possibility that they are correct? Thanks, Hugh

by Guest Gordon J H- 3 replies

Sorry, but I am supposted to just fix it... This is a single domain server (Win 2003 Server) with file shareing. The logon id being used is Domain admin. Direct Server (host name) is not available. I have tried to search, but desktop issues with Remote Desktop Connections (which this is NOT) are about the only thing that show up. Assumed activities. Installed software for wireless connection (forced as it did not support this OS) After install the system continued to reboot. Rebooted to last known good configuration. Know actvities. Reboots stopped, but the desktop appears on logon then disappears. I am left with only C…

Frontpage publishing / FTP
by Guest Lisa- 0 replies

Last year I published a file that allowed the user of the site to enter information and then submit, then a confirmation was displayed letting them know it was received and exactly what they had typed. We are on a new server now and our website changed from .com to .net. Frontpage extension were installed on the new server. I have been using FTP instead of publishing since last year and now when I need to re-publish the confirmation page (I'm not knowledgeable to understand why this page must be published and not ftp) it will not allow me to go beyond the username and password though I know that they are correct. I'm sure it's a easy fix but I'm very c…

ForeFront - Deployment KB914882 through WSUS
by Guest Vojtech Fiurasek- 0 replies

Note from: http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/bb418807.aspx For non-FCS localized Windows languages, the new installation package does not automatically install the required KB914882 update on x86 Windows XP SP2. Therefore, prior to WSUS deployment, you must deploy the correct OS language version of update (found in the \client folder on the FCS CD media) to XP computers. Is it possible to deploy KB914882-CSY to Windows XP SP2 (Czech) computers through WSUS 3.0? (I would need to manually add this update to WSUS.) Or any other good (simple) method of deploying this update (I was thinking about a logon script, but WSUS would be much preferable)…

ftp & publishing FP files
by Guest Lisa- 0 replies

I have been using ftp for my FP files for the website. During the last 6 months our server has changed and our domain name has changed from .com to ..net. Last year on my website I was able to have a confirmation sent back to the user and the results stored in another file. When switching to the new server the extension had to be re-installed and according to our server techs working fine. Since it is a confirmation page it requires publishing not ftp(not knowledgeable to know why). Frontpage will not allow me to publish (doesn't accept my username and password) but I can ftp the file. http:\\http://www.websitename.net to publish and ftp:\\websitenam…

Problem with Faxes going to the wrong destination...
by Guest Travis- 0 replies

I have a Fax Server running on Widnows Small Business Server 2003. It's got 2 modems attached and only sends outbound faxes. It process on average about 100-150 faxes per day (to date, the most it has sent in 1 8 hour shift is 208, but that is not typical). The second modem was added in the past couple months. Lately it has started to send the wrong fax. I can see that 2 fax jobs were submitted, say FAX_A and then FAX_B a few seconds later. Both FAX_A and FAX_B will be sent the same fax. For what it's worth, it's being fed faxes by a VB 6 application via the FAXCOMLIB libraries. The application creates PDFs, attaches them to the fax object an…
