I had this issue with two other servers recently and had to rebuild the system drives becuase i could not find what was taking up the drive space. I checked and cleared the event logs, temp files, and ran a diagnostic for larg files but none were found-HELP! This is my SQL server and would re…

We have a TestLab and we'd like to install Windows 2003 Standard on one of our servers for a 30day test Run alongside some software that we are testing. Do we need to purchase a specific license to do this or can we just download a trial copy and use it for the 30 days?

Server 2003 R2 problem with locked files
by Guest Lasse- 5 replies
Hi I don't know if this is the correct place to post my message but here goes :-) The last couple of weeks we have started encountering a problem with some of our clients. Sometimes when they want to open a Excel document they get an error from Excel telling that the document is already opened by the same user. The user have normally used the exact same document earlier the same day so it should be fine. The only solution I have found is to make a copy of the file and then restart the server which isn't very usefull. If I check which files are open on the server the locked file is not on the list. Any idea? /Lasse

Hi, I'm having some difficulty connecting a Mac running OS X 10.5.2 to my Windows Server 2003's network share, can someone give me some guidance on this? I currently have a file server in my office that's running Windows Server 2003 and we've just added 2 new Mac Pro for our graphic designer, when I try to connect to a shared volume on my file server from the Mac, I got an error message saying username and password is incorrect, but if I use the domain admin's user name and password it works fine, is there a solution to this? All the other workstation in our domain running Windows XP have no problem accessing file share using their own credential. …

No disk space. Services Doesn't start

Primary disk, dynamic, volumes: System, Applications, Data, some allocated space and a second disk mirroring all three volumes, and same allocated space. All system is crashed because 0 bytes free space is available in System volume. Even delete unnecessary data, free space record doesn't increase, still is 0. I found a 17GB temp file, in c:\WINDOWS\TEMP\SAM2718.tmp that I can't delete, "some user or application is using it". Neither a folder inside, pdk-SYSTEM-2916 can be deleted. I checked, security, so administrator has permissions enough to delete both, file and folder. No event viewer records in system or application logs giving interest…

Hello, I have a win 2003 standard edition server that is accessed via Remote Desktop by several users running XP on their individual workstations. One of the work stations has an HP USB printer attached, and shared to all other users. The printer works perfectly when used from the work stations. The server has the driver installed for this printer as well (win 2003 version from the HP website.) All users have remote desktop configured to forward the printer. when a user prints from an application on the server, the first print works properly, and then a print job labeled "Remote Desktop Redirected Printer Doc" is sent repeatedly and soon there are thousa…

Server 2003 Standard R2 - Server service crashes
by Guest d3m0n- 6 replies

Hi All :) Over the last few weeks, we have had an issue whereby one of our servers (it's a DC, which hosts apps and also a fileserver) exhibits the following symptoms, seemingly at random: - The application client on workstations will stop responding, eventually giving an error relating to it not being able to access files on a UNC path (\\server\appshare\system\blahblahetc) which is mapped to the apps drive, or an error stating that another user has exclusive access to a certain file. - The filesharing drive (which is mapped to a folder hosted on a completely different logical partition) also stops responding and crashes explorer if you try to access…

Afternoon all, Does anyone know whether there is an issue with using a Windows standard 2003 server to issue a Remote Assistance request? When I do this using email as the invitation method, the email is sent successfully however whenever I click on the email from the xp-client, I get taken to a window that says. Has Microsoft stopped support for email invitations? I must admit i'm a bit dated on this, just reviewing for the mcse. Thanks for any help Art We are sorry, the page you requested cannot be found. File access auditing
by Guest Jordon- 3 replies

Server 2000 SP4 running AD. I have read many posts about how to log file and folder access, but it doesn't seem to work. I've enabled auditing of object access in a group policy on the domain controller. I've changed the properties of the folder to be audited and added the groups to audit and what's to be audited. Nothing shows up in the security event viewer when files are accessed, changed, added or deleted. It's got to be something I've overlooked. Can anyone steer me in the right direction? -- Jordon

Antivirus 2008
by Guest Alan C- 11 replies

One XPPro workstn was infected by the antivirus 2008 trojan, which I have managed to clean. One problem remains: I cannot browse any server (2003) shares via network places or explorer, although all mapped drives are accessible. When I try to browse to the server, - '\\our_srv\' only one share is shown - 'userdata' - and this appears as an empty folder. I know that the trojan affects the local policies, which I've reset, but cannot find anything that would cause the above. Any help, suggestions, guidance would be gratefully received. P.S. I'm not sure if this is the correct ng. Hope it is.

Software Mirror Failing
by Guest lee_e31- 1 reply

Using win2003 server with 2 HDD, trying to setup software mirror. Disk 1 successfully converted to dynamic disk. Disk 0 (split into 2 partitions, no unallocated space) does convert. The option is there but when selected , I get no errors or response back. I think this may be due to not having any free space on the physical disk to convert it but anyone else have any ideas how to make this a dynamic disk?

Windows 2003 Enterprise - 16 Way
by Guest gtlscot- 1 reply

Hi Scenario we have recently upgraded a older server from 4 way to 8 way CPU. When 4 way the CPUs were configured to run with hyperthreading. When we added more processors we switched this off as Enterprise is not meant to run with greater than 8 CPUs. Even though the server now has 8 physical CPUs utlisation is still vey high. The server is not scheduled to be replaced for another 12 months and we would wish to implement a cost effective increase in server resources. We were interested to know as HT is not physical cores will the OS manage to run if HT is turned on again without an upgrade to Datacentre Thanks Graeme
