Hi, We run Windows server 2003. I try to use NTBackup to backup data to a mapped network drive. The manual backup is completed successfully, but the scheduled backup failed with error message: Backup Status: The operation was not performed because the specified media cannot be found. It seems the mapped network drive is disconnected while the scheduled job try to run. Is there anyone know why this happen? Any help will be appreciated! Thanks in advance! Lisa

Question about Server Performance Advisor
by Guest Brian- 0 replies
Hello, I have been using Server Performance Advisor to monitor the servers for adjustments that may need to be made on our 2003 servers. My question is does this "replace" perfomance monitor as far as setting a baseline for server system performance and day-forward monitoring of server performance? I was trying to set up performance counters for specific server roles such as file, print, domain controller, email, database and web server when I came across this utiliy. Should I still go ahead and configure performance logging or is Server Performance Advisor a turn-key solution? Any help, suggestions and advice would be greatly appreciated. -- Tha…

Time on compnuter and server - log on problems
by Guest Slam- 2 replies

I have a couple of users who cannot login to Server 2003. When they try logging in, on any workstation on the network, the error message "the current time on the computer and the current time on the network are different..." crops up. Any other user can log in without problem. I therefore assume it is something to do with these users' profiles but I can't work it out. Interestingly, both have been away for a couple of weeks on holidays. I had this with another user, a couple of months ago and ended up giving her a new log-in and profile. I don't want to keep doing that - there has to be a reason and an answer. Any ideas, please? Thanks.

slow shutdown on HP DL380 G3 running w2k3 sp2
by Guest nick clark- 1 reply

Hi , I have 3 DL380 G3's running w2k3 sp2 - these are all fresh installs. All firmware and drivers are patched to date using HP tools etc. These servers take approximately 10 minutes to shutdown during a reboot. Shutdown = no response from ping. I have no error messages, warnings etc in the even logs as these boxes go down. watching the boxes on an IP KVM the screen just goes black for 10 mins until it posts - then after a minute i can rdp onto them. all have 4Gb RAM, either single or dual 3.2 GHz Intel procs, no 3g/boot.ini switch. all other servers NOT DL380 G3 are fine .. i.e. G4's and 5's using the same build. I have also gone through and disab…

DFS errors on configuring replication
by Guest Geoff Lane- 8 replies

I've got two servers: Server1 is a recently rebuilt Win2k3 Standard R2 that was previously Win2k3 Standard. The rebuild was because VSS stopped working. Server2 is Win2k Server SP4. Both servers are DCs with Server1 holding all FSMO roles. For the rebuild, I transfered FSMO roles to Server2 then demoted Server1 before reformatting and installing the new OS. Once rebuilt, I tried unsuccesfully to promote Server1 to a DC and subsequently had to use ADSIEdit to clean up the AD before rebuilding again and then successfully promoting Server1, which now also holds the FSMO roles. Mindful of the advice in DFS Help, I've done all the configuration of DFS from…

Event viewer: "The server's call to a system service failed unexpectedly"
by Guest news.microsoft.com- 3 replies

Hi all, I have a seemingly untraceable issue on a Windows 2003 server -- every few seconds, an entry is being written into the system event log that reads: Source: Srv Event ID: 2000 Category: None Description: The server's call to a system service failed unexpectedly Data: 0000: 00040000 00540001 00000000 c00007d0 0010: 00000000 c000010a 00000000 00000000 0020: 00000000 00000000 00bd0334 My event log only goes back to the start of today, but there's 87000 entries exactly like this. So it's becoming rather a nuisance. Now I've done a lot of googling on this, but it seems to be unresolved; EventID.net doesn't list it in it's summary[1] and comments. H…

Hi, When browsing to servers via UNC, the "Scheduled Tasks" share does not show up anymore. It used to show up, but now the window is just blank when browsing to \\<servername>. I am a member of the Local Administrators group, I have administrative privileges on the servers. When connecting to this server by Remote Desktop and by opening a windows explorer with \\<servername>, I can see the Scheduled Tasks share listed. Moreover when I am running a schtasks command from my computer on this server: schtasks /query /s <servername> I am getting a: Error: Access is Denied. But if run locally, it works fine and lists the scheduled jobs.…

Hi. The anti-virus program I've been using is stopping support on W2K, but I don't want to change my configuration, so I'll just have to change my anti-virus. Who is likely to keep up support for W2K? Thanks.

Windows 2000 Server SP4 3.05 GHz Xeon processors (2) Intel SE7501HG2 Board 4 GBs Memory System Idle Process starts at 99% and over a weeks time it declines. As of this writing and five days later, its at 40% with a CPU time of 399:26:42 and mem usage of 16K. All other processes appear to be running minimal percentage of the CPU or none at all. Eventually I will need to reboot bacause my clients begin experiencing poor performance. Any suggestions

SFTP Solution
by Guest Starbuck- 1 reply

I want to setup an SFTP Server on an existing Server 2003 machine. I'm wondering what solutions most people out there are using, or if you have any recommendations. I just went through the process of installing the OpenSSH solution by Michael Johnson only to get to page 2 of the readme file to learn that "Server 2003 is not currently supported". The WSFTP product is a bit pricey at $450 plus another $200 for support. That's do-able, but before I drop $650 on the product I would like to know if anyone out there would actually recommends it. I also came across the list of products at the wikipedia site: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_SFTP_servers but…

CI files growing and reducing C drive disk space
by Guest lmhaggblom@besafeandfree.org- 0 replies
- 273 views
On Monday, 09/29/08, my Windows Server 2003 system told me I was low on system resources, and when I checked, I only had 700 MB of 12 GB left of free disk space when I should of had 2.27 GB free space. The problem was the "CIfiles" folder, which held a 500 MB .ci file. The number in the file name was also on three other files, but they were small. The windows.edb file was 1GB. So, we stopped the Windows Search service, deleted all four "CIfiles" folder files with the filename of the 500 MB, and emptied the recycle bin. Then, the windows.edb file shrunk and the disk space increased back to 2.27 GB free space. We restarted the Windows Search service, and this…

by Guest moondaddy- 2 replies

I have a new server currently as a workstation and I want to promote it to an active directory (the first one). when I go to run and enter dcpromo, nothing happens. When I go to Add Roles, active directory is not in the list. the only items in the list are Application server, File server, IIS, and Windows server update services. What am I missing? -- moondaddy@newsgroup.nospam
