SmartCard logon
by Guest Stefan E.- 0 replies

Anyone who can point me to some guidelines for setting up smartcard logon in a native Microsoft environment? Have a Windows Server 2003 Standard Edition SP2 and a XP SP2 PC. Have added Microsoft CA, added templates for Enrollment Agent, SmartCard User and SmartCard logon. Did the procedure for Issuing a SmartCard and everything but when trying to use it on the XP client the error "The system could not log you on. Your credentials could not be verified" appears. As I understand the domain controller is missing a certificat. How do I issue one and how can it support SmartCard Logon?

Page file
by Guest Dave Mc- 2 replies

I'm a little confused about setting up/use of the page file. I have a server with one hard drive split into C and D. It appears I can put a page file on both partitions if I want to. If I do, are they both used as needed ? What I really need to do is free up some space on C so I was going to set C page file to none and create it on D. I know I won't get a memory dump if needed but I don't care about that. Second question--Are there reliable products that will make the whole drive just C ? I have nothing on D I care about.

We are setting up our new environment with our hosting providers. We have a Quad Core Windows 2003 Server with 12 GB RAM We have a Load balancer with 2 web servers and a database server. The website and the code are stored on a SAN. The problem we are facing is that the app pool takes very long to load > 20sec We have another dual core windows 2003 server where it loads in 5 secs. This is a 64bit database server at our current hosting provider. we noticed that the ASP.NET Web site takes really long to load. When comparing it with load tests we did on our current server it loaded in under 5 secs. To time the load, I recycle the application pool and …

OEM server 2003 license, motherboard replacement
by Guest Matt Mucklo- 1 reply

Question on the OEM license for Server 2003. Is it possible to change the motherboard on a computer running OEM Server 2003 Standard without violating the license terms? I understand a reinstall of the O/S might be necessary, and that's ok. Right now the original motherboard may be the source of compatibility problems with the software trying to be run on the machine, and changing the motherboard is something I'm looking into. Given this software cost $700 it would be unpleasant if Microsoft forbade this, given it's a small business. However I need to know if they allow it or not. Also there are TS Cals associated with the machine. Would those be …

Limited connection to server
by Guest Ivan- 2 replies

Hi all, I recently built a server and is sitting in a server room physically located in a building across from where I sit. The server there is part of a network of servers which can see each other, talk to each other, connect to each other, etc. My problem is that I can't connect to the server from my computer. I can connect to all the other servers, ping, etc, just not this one. I have set a reserved entry on dhcp (which resides in the same network), so pinging the server resolves its correct IP, I just don't get any response. What is weird is the following: The server is a virtual machine, its host is a linux box. I can connect to the linux (host) OS,…
