by Guest mrceolla@gmail.com- 0 replies

Hello, Please forgive me if I'm posting this in the wrong place. Please recommend a better group if one exists. I have a fully updated SBS 2003 install. I have some home automation and answering machine software that can use TTS to announce various events. This is why I am wanting it to work. Needless to say, it does not. When I go to Start-->Control Panel-->Speech, I have only 1 tab, Speech Recognition. I should have another tab labeled Text To Speech. I do not and I do not know why. The system was built/installed w/ the onboard audio turned disabled. I have recently enabled the onboard audio. All other audio seems to work fine (WMP, Dire…

Access Denied (Printers) on Served from Server 2003
by Guest Mr. Smith- 3 replies

I have a few printers being served from server 2003, latest service packs/updates. Problem is that from time to time, more than I would like to deal with and to the point where users are upset over it. They are receiving an Access Denied Error when going to use the printers. If I was to reboot the workstation that is experiencing this it seems to go away. Can someone please shed some light on this for me as I am in loss as to why this is happing, and need to correct it? I am in an active directory domain, the printers are shared to allow everyone print rights, and also to allow all users of the domain print rights.

Hi, I hope someone will be able to help me with the following: I'm looking how you can copy files between 2 computer in the same domain having them authenticated with their computer accounts? To make it simple. Is it possible to transfer files between computers using the system account (process that will run the command is running with the local system) I could use other way to transfer files (FTP, SCP, etc….) but I would like to keep it as simple as possible. Many thanks for your answers Eric

My company just aquired a smaller company from a large corporation. We keep all the servers and computers at the smaller company, but the corp. is going to demote the DC before they hand over all access. Is there a way I can save the user information and permissions or will I have to reenter it all? I have limited access to the domain.

Server Build Help

Hello, I have seen that it is possible to install SQL Server 2000 on top of Windows Server 2003 as long as it is SP3 or later (would be SP4 since that is the current one). Is that correct? Are there any tricks to it? Also, would there be any problems if IIS was configured on the server as well (so one server would have WIndows Server 2003 with IIS configured and SQL Server 2000). Would there be any problems with this setup? Would it be difficult to setup a failover server or clustering? Is it better to have two separate servers? If so, why? Thanks for your help, Diego

We're getting to a stage with our small office network where the numebr of PCs is getting slightly too big for a workgroup. We've also just had a data server on a different network replaced and have a spare Windows 2000 Server (hardware and software) and are thinking of creating a domain server and moving from a workgroup to a domain. MY question is: Is it quite simple? I have a fair amount of experience of running an NT4 domain, but active directory boggles me. Do I have to us ADS? And how simple is setup? Is it a fairly easy case of reinstalling Win2k Server and setting up a domain, or is there quite a lot of work? It onyl need to be a simpel logon serve…

Delete Folder - Access Denied.
by Guest Andrew Staley- 2 replies

Recently we have had a problem where someone has moved a folder (and not held their hands up to doing it) which is critical to the operation of our business. Fortunately we were able to move the files back to where they were. Since moving the files back though we have a folder left with a sub folder which is causing our backups to fail due to an "Access Denied" error. As the administrator I have ownership and full permissions to the parent folder, but I cant access or alter the child folder? When I look at the properties of the child folder there is no "Security" tab. Is there a way around this, there is no content in either folder but I would sti…

Hi I have a big trouble on the IAS with Windows 2003. Actually, I have completed the IAS testing on MD5-Challenge authentication and working perfectly. When I change the authentication type to PEAP, I got below error message from the IAS MMC. A certificate could not be found that can be used with this Extensible Authentication Protocol. Find out what user causes load on fileserver.
by Guest JvB- 0 replies

Hi All, On a (2003, single AD domain) fileserver, a few users are causing major performance issues by copying (very) large amounts of data. Is there any way to detect or log this ? When performance is low, I'd like to see which users are causing the extra load. (to make them an offer they can't refuse :-) The only thing I can see is the open files. Regards, JvB

x64 Windows 2003 SP2 and Exchange 2003
by Guest Ian McShane- 0 replies

Now before I start, I know that installing Exchange 2003 onto Windows 2003 x64 is not a supported configuration. However, I need to make use of some DLLs that are installed as part of the ESM installation. The install can be completed, albeit with a warning dialogue, on Windows 2003 base and SP1 (and all available updates). After installing Windows 2003 SP2, it is not possible to continue past the warning dialogue. The continue button that is available in base and SP1 is greyed out under SP2. I've searched high and low for an explanation of this, it's not detailed in the SP2 release notes or readme and there is no KB article mentioning this (not eve…

TS Device CALs / TS User CALs
by Guest C. G.- 0 replies

Hi, I am just about to extend my heterogeneous office network by adding a machine windows Server 2003 R2 as well as some new Linux machines (I work largely in CAD/Simulation). I would need to be able to run terminal server sessions on the Win 2003 machine from non Windows hardware, particularily thin clients running embedded linux or linux machines running kde/gnome. Preferred access method would be rdp. I have heard of problems in such situations if I chose Device TS-CALs instead of User CALs but Device CALs would be the more economical solution for me. Can anybody out there confirm or refute problems with RDP/TS Device Cals/non-windows hardware/Windo…

Setting permanent DHCP leases? (Reservations?)
by Guest fern- 1 reply
I want to setup a DHCP server/scope that hands out permanent IPs to specified hosts only to approx 200 systems. I'm assuming I would setup a scope ip range and then just set individual "reservations" using each of the systems MAC addresses. This is understood but since the IP range will be larger then whats needed how can I prevent foreign systems from getting an available IP since its MAC address is not within the reservation list? Should I use an "exception range", specifying the entire Address Pool? All the help would be greatly appreciated.

The executable files properties displays : File Version : 6.0.6001.16510 (longhorn_beta3.070417-1740) Must I install on an x64???

by Guest John- 4 replies

After applying SP2 to our W2K3 server, I was unable to get the WDS server to start by initiating WDS Legacy. In the event viewer, we keep getting the same 2 errors: 1) An error occurred when trying to initialize provider BINLSVC from SYS32\binlsvc.dll. Error information: 0x6e 2) An error occurred trying to start WDS service. Error information: 0x6e Not much other info. than that. I checked into the article that matched closest....928645. But, I could find anything wrong following those steps. Any other ideas or suggestions? Thx, John

Sometimes when updating software or at the conclusion of Microsoft updates, when I ask the server to "restart", it hangs prior to beginning the reboot - apparently just before posting begins. This can also happene when I do a remote reboot using Remote Desktop Connection. Do you know what causes this and do you have a fix for it? -- Chuck_N
