Print Migrator 3.1 with W2k3 R2 SP2
by Guest Distant- 0 replies

I'm having issues getting one of our Windows 2003 R2 SP2 servers migrated to Identical hardware in another site. I backup using printmig 3.1 locally then copy the file to the new server but always receive the error "Can't restore to HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Printmig" before it fails. I am logged on as admin, have granted everyone Full on this Key, tested a backup and restore locally which works. The source server may have been SP1 when the printers where installed then had SP2 installed. In addition it has Print services for UNIX and IIS is installed. I have noted in the V3 drivers folder on the source is 50,000 + BUD.tmp files, could they be an …

Roaming profiles and Sun Java App Directory
by Guest rhazzon- 3 replies

I'm having a problem with my users set up for roaming profiles. It appears that Sun Java keeps adding a large directory \\server\profiles \username\Application Data\Sun for each of my users. This directory can be anywhere from a few megs to nearly 200 megs. As you can imagine the result is an extended logon/logoff time as the data is transferred to the client machine. Once a week I go in and view the size of each users profile. If I notice a large profile I go in and manually delete this directory. Are there any suggestions on how to deal with this problem in a more efficient manner? Thanks to all in advance! Russ Hazzon

Permission for folders on file servers
by Guest Nandan- 3 replies

Hi, I have a Win2003 Standard Edition with SP2 and it has the role of a file server.I am the administrator for the file server. My problem is I have set Modify permissions for users to specific folders. The Aim is to provide them with read/write/append permissions. For that,I had given the users Read/Write/Modify permissions but this enables them to create/delete sub folders inside the folders to which they have permissions. And when they create new folders the ownership of the folder is with them. This makes my life difficult because when I set permissions on the parent folders ,those permissions dont seem to reflect on the folders which have the ownership ch…

SBS & Terminal Server Question
by Guest Greg Horne- 8 replies
First of all, I program but have to dabble in setting up our server. I need a server to host web sites, and also allow users to remote desktop to the machine and run desktop applications. I am expecting up to 3 concurrent remote desktop users at any given time, max. Currently, I have 2003 SBS with the 5 included CAL's. It appears I am limited to 2 users being able to remote desktop to the server. I think the purpose of this is for remote administration. SBS does not appear to have Terminal Server, software and/or license, I am not sure. Can I get a Terminal Services license for SBS? If so, then is just a matter of me buying Terminal Server lice…

Printer Status
by Guest sir-bob- 1 reply

Hi: Can anyone help me with a method by which I can monitor the status of a printer service on a WIndows 2003 Server. I would like to get a warning on my network management system when a printer goes into an offline status. I wish to obtain this from the server and not from the printer. Is there possibly a method using SNMP or is the status perhaps stored in the registry? Thanks Bob

boot problem
by Guest Randy Starkey- 1 reply

Hi, I just installed a new app, Symantec system recovery console, and the server (2003) I installed it on now refuses to boot either normal or in safe mode. In safe mode, it seems to hang at a certain driver. If I choose last known good configuration from the F8 menu, will this create UNC rollback problems as this server is an AD along with my main server. Or will it handle that issue? Thanks! --Randy Starkey

Shadow copy schedule
by Guest Tom Del Rosso- 0 replies

Is there any detriment to having a scheduled shadow copy start at the same time as a backup which initiates another shadow copy? I can stagger the hours, but when the times have to be changed should care be taken not to start them at the same time? I expect the answer is no, so out of curiosity can it run both at once, or would one operation supercede? -- Reply in group, but if emailing add another zero, and remove the last word.

large file issue in Windows Server 2003
by Guest Scott McFadden- 4 replies

We have a local NTFS / compressed volume on Win2003 server 32 bit SP2. Box has 2gb of ram and 100gb free space on hard disk. Discovered a problem in Windows Explorer. When we try to rename a very large file (1-2 gig file), we see the following error: Cannot rename 64071: Insufficient resources exist to complete the requested service. If I try to delete the file, I get a similar error. I can work around the delete problem by using shift+delete on the file (bypassing recycle bin). I can work around the rename problem by copying the file to a new file and shift+deleting the old file afterwards. This is mildly annoying. Has anyone else ever ha…
