Warning before they've nested a file too deep
by Guest Boe- 2 replies

I believe the issue is that a folder is more than 255 characters in entire depth of the folder name e.g. c:\user info\templates for 2007\client templates\master library.... and Windows pretty much won't let you copy files there etc. Is there a way to have a 2003 R2 server to scans to make sure folders aren't beyond a certain length? Thanks

NT Backup - Blank Error Message generating ASR set
by Guest Chris Tilley - HPC:Factor- 1 reply

I cannot find any reference to a similar error on the newsgroup here, MSKB or Google. Hopefully I am not missing something too obvious. I needed a quick system backup so ran the full system backup to with ASR through the backup simple wizard. The tape backup went fine, and the prompt to enter a blank formatted 1.44MB Floppy poped up. Giving it what it asks for, it churns the drive for a second or two and pops up a completely blank error message as per: http://img151.imageshack.us/my.php?image=ntb2003sp2errrv4.gif Clicking 'Retry' chugs the disk cylinder again and back comes the "message". I have tried several different blank disks, and Windows is full…

How to remove a non existing additional DC from domain
by Guest OzzY- 1 reply
Hello, One of our additional DC has been crashed. So, we changed disks and formatted. But, computer name still exists in Domain and we always receive replication errors etc. So, is there any procedure to delete record of this DC from domain . Or, if I delete its name from domain, other records will be deleted automatically about it ? (like DNS, Sites and services, LDAP...) Note : This DC was an additional DC and there was no DC role on it (no global catalog, no PDC emulator...) Best Regards.

Hello, We have a lot of macs attaching to the server - they can create or copy files with periods or spaces at the end. Once they are on the server, you can't remove them from the server via PC, Mac or the server itself - even after a reboot. I'd like to make sure this never ever happens again. How do I prevent it?

Partitionierung Windows 2003 Server
by Guest U. Kuehne- 1 reply

Domain users - power users on XP wkstn
by Guest lab-guy- 1 reply

I've been creating local power users, signing in to the local machine and mapping drives to a 2003R2 server. It was easier to do it this way since we had users and pc's before the server. I have 3 new users starting shortly, and want to do it right. If I sign them into the domain, how do I make them a power user on XP ? I sign is to the domain as a domain admin and have local admin rights, but what do I do for users ? Thanks - Mike

Hi, We use Windows Server 2003 Standard edition for our server and Windows XP for our clients at church. The laptop users have their My Documenst folder redirected to a network share. One user gets several "You have lost the connection to <server name>" several times a day. There does not seem to be any reason. If she immediately goes to Windows Explorer or browses the network in any way. All of the network drives are there. I tried diasabling offline fielsa nd then redoing the redirection, but it did not have any affect. Any help is appreciated. Thanks, Rich

Hello, I'm a newbie when it comes to routing and firewalls so don't be shocked by my lack of understanding. I have a network that services extremely large files - the average is proably around 1 GB - ranging from small to 100 GB files. Their firewall has a 100 megabit interface. Their file server where they send the bulk of their data has a gigabit interface. Although they also send a good amount of data to our web server which is in a different network zone I currently have their default gateway as the firewall - should I somehow make the default gateway the file server and then make it go to the firewall (if that is even possible - I reall…

Windows Time Issues
by Guest stosti- 2 replies

I have a domain with a single server that is a domain controller and file server. I have 25 clients connected to the domain controller. They are a mix of XP and 200 pro with the latest hot fixes and service packs. The clocks keep changing back and forth 4416 seconds. I set the domain controller to correctly get the time from a military server on the internet. It's time is correct and stable. The work stations change several times a day. This does not appear to be daylight savings time related. This issue goes back a year or more. The domain controller was rebuilt a couple of months ago due to a hardware failure. It has a different name but the sa…

Having time issues with Windows Server 2003 R2
by Guest Chad G- 4 replies

I was having problems before with my server, and they are still occuring. For example, I was just sitting on one of my workstations and noted the time was 5:30 PM, which at the time was correct, then within 15 minutes it said 8:00 AM, which obviously was wrong. I thought I had the problem narrowed down to excess heat and motherboard issues, but now even with the top of the case off it started doing the same thing. It also seems as if the computer freezes/becomes unresponsive when trying to login, but if I just bump the case or one of the connectors in the back, it comes alive, thats what makes me think this is not a software issue, just wanted to get…

W2K3 Server and Terminal server licenses
by Guest GotNoIdea- 5 replies

OK I need to get this straight as I have heard all kinds of explainations and comments. I'm looking into setting up a W2K3 Standard server that will also be used as a Citrix server. The amount of clients and user accounts is undetermined at the moment. I know for example if I'm going to have say 50 users accessing this server that I will need 50 W2K3 user cal's. Now my question is do I also need terminal server licenses? My coworker seems to disagree that we need them. He claims that since XP comes with the TS client (RDC) that it is no longer required. We also have our own W2K3/Citrix server that is a terminal server. It is not a DC. When we first set it…

We have a 2003 std sp2 server, a U.S. Robotics 56K FAX EXT fax modem, and microsoft fax setup. When I try to send a fax, it connects to the number I am sending to and says it goes through. Then it prints on the local fax machine. We have tested multiple numbers and they ring and connect on the other end. No error messages, nothing in the logs (system/apps/fax). Any ideas?
