batch files and writing to csv file
by Guest GMC- 6 replies

Hello, I have logon and logoff batch files that I wrote and applied to a group policy to find out when people are logging on and off. I have it write to a csv file when the people logon and logoff. Twice I have noticed that the csv file appears to have had a bunch of records deleted. For example: I started the logon logoff events on January 8 and on January 10th I looked at a copy of the file so as not to disturb the original and all it held was January 10th information. What could have happened to the the information from the 8th or 9th? The batch file is written as follows: echo log-off script: log-off From: %computername%, User name: %username%, Lo…

by Guest Tom Reis- 1 reply

We have a mix of Windows 2003 servers some are just the original Windows 2003 and some are Windows 2003 R2. I noticed on some of the R2 servers when go to properties it shows Windows 2003 Enterprise R2 but others where we used the Windows 2003 R2 CD to build it come up as just Windows 2003. Is another way to determine the version of the Windows 2003?

servers can't see each others files on SAN
by Guest Mike55- 0 replies

hey all, I have several 2003 enterprise servers connected to my IBM DS4700 SAN. The servers can see the partitions and can mount them to a driver letter, but the servers can not see the files that another server has copied to the drive. This is my first SAN setup, and I have the MPIO driver(s) installed with the necessary hotfix applied. Why can't the servers see each other's files? Any ideas? Thanks, Mike

Hello all, I've got a good one for all of you. Can someone tell me the difference between XP and 2003 in regards to Disk I/O? There is a difference, I know that for sure doing some tests. I'll setup my senerio. Mind you these tests were setup with one constant, the hardware. In both test scenario's the hardware never changed. Hardware setup: Intel based system with a 6 SAS drive RAID 0 hanging off the box. (Direct attached SCSI/SAS). These are Write Tests only. Results: Server 2003 gets about 250MB a sec writes. As expected. XP barley get 70MB a sec writes. Not as expected. Conclusion: I'm (hate to use this w…

High Memory Utilization for svchost.exe running WMI
by Guest John Neithercott- 3 replies

Has anyone else experienced a memory leak caused by the Windows Management Instrumentation service? I have a seperate copy of svchost.exe (svchostwmi.exe) running only the Windows Management Instrumentation service. Usually this service is lumped in with a lot of other services that you can't just restart (Server, Workstation, etc.). This svchostwmi.exe, if allowed, will use all of the memory in the system and make the system unresponsive. This only occurs on some of my Windows 2003 Enterprise 64-Bit servers (about 6 of them). I currently have a kill script that runs every 4 hours to kill the runaway service. This has been occuring for over a year. …

I'm recieving the following back error when trying to restore from a USB hard drive. "the backup file contains unrecognized data that cannot be used" I did a full backup to a network share, then copied the backup to a usb harddrive. For some reason i'm able to do a restore from the netowrk share, but it is very, very slow. I thought if i copied the backup file to a usb drive i could do it from there. Any suggestions, or tips would be grealy helpful? John

Deciding on a remote application
by Guest The Doctor- 4 replies

Hello Windows Server Experts. I have a prospective client that wants us to build a Windows Server as follows: 1) They need to access Simply Accounting from that server. So far the license is for 2 users 2) They want to remote access the server for informatin and printing off data 3) I prefer they use secure access. Cost is secondary to the purpose of the above mentioned. Currently this customer is accessing their Simply Accouting from a home using DSL and there are 2 computers so that gotomypc.com client can work. I wish to streamline this and make it secure and easy. I am looking atthe Windows 2003 Server line. Your suggestion…
