I have a server that originally was Windows 2003 SBS Standard. Then we needed terminal services capability so through MS we got an upgrade/migration pack and moved to Windows 2003 Standard and Exchange 2003 Standard. I am trying to install SP2 now and am getting a cryptograph error that the certificate could not be verified or update.inf could not be verified. I have tryed all the posts on microsoft including: reregistering all update DLL's renameinf CATROOT2 and letting windows rebuild it Deleting the Software Distribution folder contents rebooting Sometimes it gets farther but in the end I still get the error. Any suggestions? Thanks in Advance.

Windows 2000 DHCP Audit Logging.
by Guest fern- 1 reply

According to the below technet article, 2003 Server has the ability to set the length of how long the audit logs are kept for DHCP auditing. Yet it seems 2000 seems to only keep logs for a week. Am I missing something or does 2000 also have that option, and if so where?

Can someone please help me understand the KeepAliveTime and KeepAliveInterval parameters that can be added to the registry of a W2K3 Server HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\Tcpip\Parameters ?? We have an FTP server in which some connections are being closed after 2 hours. In doing research on the FTP software, we are being told to add the KeepAliveTime parameter to the registry to resolve the issue. I need help in understanding what this does. Thank you. Rachel

C#, .NET v2 and Windows 2003 Standard vs. Enterprise
by Guest drew@sundawg.org- 0 replies

I have an application I wrote in C#, which sends an email periodically. The program works fine on my XP laptop, and on my Windows 2003 Enterprise server. However, I've installed the application on 2 Windows 2003 Standard servers where the program fails to send the email and throws an exception. Here's the relevant section of the C# code: try { client.Send(msg); } catch (Exception e) { log.Log("Error sending email:" + e.Message.ToString()); } And here's the error message from the 2003 Standard servers: Error sending email:Command not implemented. The server response was: Error: command not implemented All 2003 Server machines sit on the s…

Having previously installed WS2K3 SP2 manually on selected servers, including domain controllers and having no issues, other than that some 3rd party applications' management consoles don't work work with MMC 3.0, I went ahead and approved SP2 via WSUS for roughly 100 servers in a remote data center. Most of these servers now have SP2 running without any issues, so far. However, on four servers, SP2 will not install. When I attemtped to install SP2 on these servers interactively, I received the following message: -------------------------- Windows Service Pack 2 has detected tht one or more protected files on your computer have been modified. The Servi…

Installing on to Existing Windows 2000 Server Network
by Guest Chris- 4 replies
I installed a Windows Server 2003 box on to an existing Windows 2000 server based network. I added it to the domain and set it up strictly as a file server. I then started to work on shares but ran into a problem. When I attempted to use the groups on the existing active directory they weren't there. For instance, when I would share something I would attempt to add a group on the existing domain but the group was not found. When I clicked on the "Location" button it only presented me with the local computer/server as a location and not the entire directory. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

by Guest Robh- 3 replies

Hi all I need help with Windows NT Backup. I normally use Veritas or Arcserve but for a while I need to use NTBackup. The server is Win2K3 with Exchange2K3. I need to backup both the Win & Exchange servers. I can perform this task manually but when I try to schedule the task it NEVER works. The error I ALWAYS get is "Cannot locate the specified media or backup device. This backup operation will terminate." I have used the Wizard to create the backup job and schedule it but it still won't work. The actual Scheduled task looks like this "C:\WIN~\ntbackup.exe backup "@C:\Documents~\BoxBackup.bks" /v:no /r:no /rs:no /hc:on /m normal /j "A…

Routing
by Guest Brandon- 1 reply

Can anybody advise me on a way to route only http traffic to a certain IP. My DG points to .254, but that is only for the internal vpn and mail. HTTP traffic all goes to .253 but update.microsoft.com does not work even when specifying proxy as .7 which routes that traffic to .253. What I need to do in the routing table is route only http traffic to a certain ip, different to the DG, without using a proxy. Any help / insight would really be appreciated. Brandon.

Need Help
by Guest buc- 0 replies

I have set up WEB server (Windows 2003 SP2 with IIS) to host a site. While looking through the security events audit. I noticed a large number of FAILURE AUDITS with the MICROSOFT_AUTHENTICATION_PACKAGE_V1 and KRBTGT\ service. These audits have various logon user names like PETER, APPLE, ROOT, LISA, MASTER, DOG and other random names. It has the sourceworkstation = the computer name of my server, and it has an error code of 0xC0000064. I am concerned. This happens for about a minute and stops during certain days. What is this? Is it an inside or outside hijack. What can this do? Can it control the computer. Thanks BUC

changing IP scheme need help with cutover for windows printers
by Guest obulldog27- 3 replies

We are changing our network IP Scheme so therefore our old network printer settings will not work. All our printers are installed on our w2k server and are shared out to users. If I just change the ip settings for each printer will I have to re-add the printers on each client or will this be a seamless change. Maybe there is an easier method to do this.

Hello, I have a question for a MS MVP. What is the maximum length of a command that you can put in a Windows scheduled task (its run field)? E.g. http://support.microsoft.com/kb/830473/en-us gives command-line string limitations for various versions of MS Windows but does not tell anything about the Windows Scheduler. -- rpr. /Robert Premuz/
