NTbackup fail on one file only
by Guest T_A_C- 4 replies

I've been using NTbackup for a couple years now, as follows: File server (which has the VS80 tape drive, backs itself and also the backup files from the Exchange server, nightly. The Exchange server backs up the Ex storage group to a file and the systems state to a file, then the file server pulls those two files down to tape each night. This process has worked flawlessly until lately. Now I get the message in my NTbackup logs as follows: Backup started on 1/10/2008 at 12:03 AM. WARNING: Portions of "\Exchange.bkf" cannot be read. The backed up data is corrupt or incomplete. This file will not restore correctly. Backup completed on 1/10/2008 at 2:4…

Server "consolidation"
by Guest Barkingdog- 2 replies

** If this is posted to the wrong newsgroup, excuse me, and please direct me to the proper one.*** We have over 80 Windows servers at our place of business and about 400 workers! Big time consolidation needed. Some here want to consolidate as many apps as possible on a single physical server. That bothers me because none of the apps (3rd party and internally developed ones) were tested in an environment with the other apps present. When we install them together on a single server we are, effectively, testing this mix for the first time. Questions come to mind: other than obvious problems, e.g. BSOD, how do we know if something was broken? (I don’t think…

BROWSTAT states "Browsing not active on the domain".
by Guest Gis Bun- 2 replies

Hi. I'm doing some "maintenance" on a sister domain. Noticed that the DCs can't see any PCs or servers on the domain in the Network Places yet the non-DC servers can. Gives me the error message that "I" don't have permissions, even though I'm logged in as the Domain Admin. Running the MS utility BROWSTAT.EXE, I get the message "Browsing NOT active on the domain. Status : 6118. The domain has a DNS but no WINS. Ideas? Thanks

Hi, I have installed WSUS 3.0 on a 2003 R2 SP2 server. The WSUS MMC fails to open with the error: MMC failed to create snap in, clsid 8b6499ed... i have seen this before and know if I uninstall SP2 etc... and reinstall etc... it will fix the error. My question here is, does anyone have a tried and tested fix that doesn't involve uninstalling SP2? Thanks Chris

DHCP
by Guest Bob- 10 replies

I am new to Windows Server 2003 and have Static Addresses set up on all of my servers. I have 3 DNS servers running Windows 2000 Server. The rest are all running Windows Server 2003 with Exchange or other various applications. I have read everything I can get my hands on regarding DHCP Client. I believe that I can disable DHCP client on all servers where I am running Static IP addresses, however can not find any information that confirms that as fact. I am getting errors on all of these machines that might indicate a corrupt database however, since these mahines in question are not my DHCP server, and there is no databse in the directory, then I jus…

We have had happen to us twice in the last week as this file has somehow been modified so that the line SeNetworkLoginRight line has been changed where the data after the equal sign has become blank. Wondering if anybody else has had that happen and what might cause it to do that. We have had no alerts in the event log or anywhere else saying that the domain controllers have had any type of virus. Any ideas would be great. Thanks

running scheduled tasks as someone who is not an administrator
by Guest BrianD- 4 replies

We have an operations group at work that deals with many day to day activities. All of these user accounts are in an AD group, and that group is then added to the local power users group on the servers they need to work on. If they log onto one of these Win 2003 Servers and try to even look at Scheduled Tasks they get Access Denied. How can we grant this group, or local power users in effect, the rights to view and run scheduled tasks, without making them box admins? We tried adding them to "logon as batch job" and that didn't work. Thanks.

License Errors in Event Log
by Guest CC- 3 replies

Hi...can anyone let me know how to get rid of all these errors in the event log. They are coming up on 3 of our Winodws 2000 servers ever since we installed Windows 2003 SBS server on the network. Source: LicenseService Event ID: 213 Type: Warning Replication of license information failed because the License Logging Service on server \\SERVER1 could not be contacted. We think the SBS 2003 server is the primary license server so we are not sure why these other ones have license services running even, is there a way to transfer them from those other servers to the Windows 2003 SBS server? Or can we just disable the license services on those servers we ar…

I am currently running a Windows 2003 Web edition box and on my D:\ drive I have a shared folder that hold files for my website. There is a local admin account that has Full Control (Sharing) to the folder. On another server I'm using a robocopy application to push files over to the web server accessing the box using the local admin account. However, when the copy service tries to push the files over I receive a message: "No more connections can be made at this remote computer at this time because there are already as many connections as the computer can accept". I also receive this message when I try to browse from my file server to the web server. …
