Problems viewing event viewer on remote PC
by Guest pez- 3 replies

I am trying to view event logs on a remote PC on our network. This problem is isolated to a single PC. I am able to view other computer management tabs such as device manager, services, etc. It is like I don't have the permissions to view the event log. I was able to do this in the past. This is the message that I get when I try to view the event log of the remote PC. "Unable to connect to the computer "IP address". The error was: The network path was not found" Any ideas?

Group rename problem
by Guest Einari- 3 replies

Hello, We have Win2003 AD with about 2000 users. A few days ago I had to rename a few security groups in our AD. After the rename I made tests with my test accounts and all seemed to function okay (network shares are mapped in logon script). Later I got messages from users complaining that network shares no longer work. We discovered that manual mapping still works but login mapping doesn't. Yesterday I made a new group with the original group name and added all the original users there. I also added this new group condition to login script (if ingroup group or ingroup original group then map network share). Now login mapping works too. Could someone e…

At the company we have a server running Windows Small Business Server 2003, but we have a problem trying Remote Access to it. We can get to the log on page. From there, once logged on we are taken to the main menu page. There you select the task to access the Server desktop, or to access a client station or any other task and click to proceed. And after you select the task the server just stops All you get in response to the command is a blank page with headinga and the log off - Main menu choices. After a few minutes an error message appears: *************** VBScript: Remote Desktop Disconnected --------------------------------------------------------…

Losing File Share after reboot
by Guest Brian- 4 replies

I have a Windows 2003 network. Server A has a network file share to "DATA" . Share rights are full control, file rights are full control. Server B runs a scheduled task to transfer info from \\serverA\DATA to a local folder on Server B. Whenever Server A gets rebooted, it loses the folder to "DATA". Other folder shares are not affected. Just that one folder "DATA". It is not the Mapped Drive problem from the Microsoft KB297684. Any help appreciated.

Server running slow and MSSearch problems
by Guest Paul King- 2 replies

Dear all, I have a 2003.net stanmdard server with SQL2000 and Exchange 2003. I have since contracted a nasty virus even though I had Trend AV installed. Anyways, I think I have got rid of the viruses but also did a registry cleanup using one of the tools on the web, this however has slowed the machine up. The processor is running fine (no high utilitisation) but the hard disk is going like the clappers. The only correlation I can make is that the one of the services failed to start which is Microsoft Search. When launched the error could not find the file specified is recorded, yet the MSSearch.exe is located in the correct directory. Any help would…

Windows update seems to always want to update different dot net versions (1, 2 & 3 so far) - is this normal - is there a best practice here regarding which versions of dot net to install (e.g. : should you uninstall versions 1 & 2 if you install 3?) thanks, -- Steve Paul
