Hi We have WSUS 2.0 today (Windows 2003 SP1 on all servers), but want ot upgrade to 3.0. I can't find much information on "how to upgrade". Hi! Some days ago we had a small problem with the NTFS folder rights on one of our 2003 servers. I dont want to go into detail now because its not important for my question. Here it comes: Do you know a program which can show me the NTFS folder rights of multiple folders? For example from a folder and all subfolders and files in it. I dont wanna edit them, just take a look at it. Thanks! Philipp Ritter

Printers not showing in "Find Printers"
by Guest GCS Tech- 4 replies
We are in an Active Directory scenario with Win2k domain controllers and 1 2k3 DC. It seems that, at random, when searching for printers in the directory, you'll see an incomplete list. The printers are accessible if you hit the print server directly (with an UNC path). We have 10+ sites, and over a hundred printers, so this feature is very useful to us. What could be causing printers to not appear in the list?

Windows Server 2003 Shutdown Event Tracker
by Guest atharsagri- 2 replies
Dear Experts, We were using Windows 2000 Adv server SP4 and we use to restart the server ever morning by a shutdown utility (shutdown -r). It was working fine and users were getting the fresh server every morning. Since we shifted to Windows Server 2003, this utility is not working due to the shutdown event tracker module. It prompts for the reason for the restart of the server. We want to avoid this so as our server restarts every morning as earlier. Any help guidence will be highly appreciated. Thanks. -- Athar Sagri

Print server failover
by Guest andreazannoni@gmail.com- 0 replies
- 191 views
Hi, I have a NT (sigh!) domain and 2 w2ksrv set up as print servers. My will is to set up them identically for failover: once the first goes down, changing the ip in wins table, I'd like to redirect the print trafic to the second. And so far no prob, I created the same spools with the same names in both the servers. The prob is that when I switch, it says "not allowed". I know that there is a known problem making this in 2003 (pointing a dns record with a name different from the server one)...is this the case? Or else, how can I do?

Profiles not migrating to new server
by Guest Innovations- 0 replies
I am trying to shut down a company's orignal server (001) and move to a new server (002). I have gone into group policies and changed all the folder redirection policies and I have changed their profile settings in AD to send their profiles to the new server. As best I can tell everything is telling them to save their My Docuemnts, etc. to 002 but looking at the file updates times it is apparent that they are instead still saving to 001

help with LimitLogin
by Guest Computerguy- 0 replies
We have setup and configured limitlogin (or so we think), but we still have users who can login multiple times, simultaneoulsy. The IIS server was installed without error, and the same with the AD partition. We can only think the vbscript is not being read or there is some kind of resolution problem. We also noticed our users are connecting to the domain controller acting as a backup instead of the DC where we configured the limitlogin partition. Any help would be appreciated as we are trying to avoid paying for Userlock. Thanks.

by Guest ariana- 0 replies

Hi All, When I click on the Processes Tab in task manager, I only see blank page. Also the numbers under Totals, Physical Memory etc under Performance Tab disapper. Other Tabs in task manager work fine. It seems to be related to some services I am running on the machine. If I stop these services, the task manager will become normal. But what could be the underlying cause? I need to run these services on the machine. I am remotely logging to a Windows 2000 server. But I observe the same thing with Windows 2003 server. Thank you very much in advance, A

Upgrade file server 2k to 2003 keep server name
by Guest Mike55- 2 replies
Hey All, I have a couple of Windows 2000 servers that are just file servers - roaming profiles, shares, etc. that I want to upgrade to new hardware running Windows 2003 and keep the server names. I already have a new Win 2003 server running and joined to my domain with a different name 'server1'. What are the steps I need to take to get this done? Do I just need to copy all the folders/files I want to keep to a 3rd device, rename the new server to take over the identity of the old server, and copy the folders/files to the new server? What file copy utilities are good for copying and maintaining rights? Robocopy??? Thanks, Mike

Multi-ISO boot from USB Drive
by Guest Dragon- 0 replies
Hi, I have seen several of MSDN DVDs that contain multiple OS products. Upon booting from them, you get a choice of which OS to install. We reload OS all the time on our test beds when reconfiguring testing labs for different configurations. I would to be able to do something similar but with a USB drive. I would like to copy/add several bootable ISO files onto my USB drive, then boot from the USB and get a choice to load one of the ISO images for installations. Does anyone know of any way to do this? Thanks.

Prevent Application popup windows
by Guest Webbert- 0 replies
I just got involved in a production issue and believe that there is a popup window that is preventing the system from running until someone presses "OK". The only indication that I have at this point is a screen shot of an event log that shows Source: Application Popup Category: None Type: Information Event ID: 26 User: N/A No other information is available. I thought that there was a way with Dr. Watson to prevent any and all popups from displaying on a server that expects no UI. Can anyone point me in the right direction to prevent the popups from occuring? Thanks, Dave

Hi there, I joined a Windows 2003 Standard X64 R2 server to my current domain. I am having problems with replication. I followed all of the instructions with dcdiag.exe I could find on technet. In active directory sites and services when I tell my new server to push replication to my old server i get the following error: "The following error occured during the attempt to synchronize naming context domain.com from domain controller DCnew to domain controller DCold. The naming context is in the process of being removed or is not replicated from the specified server. This operation will not continue" Anyone have any idea why these two wont talk? both…

I want to decommission my old primary W2003SE server (the hand crank broke) and I undersatnd that part of the process involves the FSMO. Can the FSMO process be done while the system is in production or do I do it off-hours? Also, I have a static IP address assigned to the DNS address, on the same server. After I demote the old server, can I move the IP address to my new server?

wallpaper reverting back
by Guest UWRFREPORTER04- 0 replies
I'm experience a small, but annoying problem where sometimes after you restart the wallpaper reverts back to a basic blue background. Under the settings the correct wallpaper is selected and it takes affect once you click ok, but can't figure out why that happens. This may or may not related. There are times where the desktop doesn't load either. It comes to a blank blue screen with nothing on it, not even a task bar. I'm able to hit ctrl-alt-delete and either log off or shut down or enter "explorer" to load the desktop. Most of these pcs were reformatted with a clean install of windows.

SMTP: Unable to delete virtual domain
by Guest Paul- 1 reply
Hi, There is a domain inside the IIS SMTP that I can not delete. The default domain is there, that is made up of my fqdn and called (Default), but there is another domain that is listed with garbled characters and called (Normal). 2nd mouse click doesn't show the delete command. I used regedit to search for the name of the rogue domain but the string value doesn't exist in the registry. Any ideas how I can get rid of this rogue domain? Thanks.
