move old domain account to new domain account with Vista?
by Guest ridergroov- 0 replies
Alright, I know that moveuser.exe is no longer working in Vista and is replaced by some crap called Win32_UserProfile WMI which I can't find anyone that knows how to use it to migrate an old domain profile to a new domain profile and I can't find anywhere that actually explains how to do this. Why moveuser.exe was made no longer useful in Vista is beyond me. Anyway, all I want to do is move my user account from our old domain to our new domain. Does anyone know how to do this with Vista Business? Thanks.

Using VSS on 64-bit W2K8 from a 32-bit application
by Guest wn123456@gmail.com- 0 replies

Hi, We have a 32bit application using the Volume Shadow Copy API on 64-bit W2K8 (Longhorn beta3 is installed). Our 32-bit application is using the Windows 2003 VSS API library. There is no problem doing this with 32-bit W2K8, the problem is only with 64-bit. When InitializeForBackup() is called it is returning 0x8000ffff (E_UNEXPECTED). The event log contains: Volume Shadow Copy Service error: The VSS Coordinator class is not registered. This may be caused due to a setup failure or as a result of an application's installer or uninstaller. and "Volume Shadow Copy Service error: Unexpected error calling routine CoCreateInstance. hr = 0x80040154. W2K vs W2K3 Task Scheduler
by Guest Adrian- 0 replies

Hi I have anissue , I am backing up my DHCP scopes with NETSH to a remote location. I have a batchfile that runs in the task scheduler using an account that has DHCP User rights and change rights to the destination folder. this all works great in Wk2. In W2k3 if fails , I can only get it to work if I give the account full admin rights (Which I don't want to do ) Now I have picked up that the difference between the w2k and w2k3 tasks is that in w2k the perms on the task has the EVERYONE group with Read , List and Execute rights. Along with Administratos and System . In W2k3 it only has System and Administrators. I have tried adding the account I am …

ASR restore & RAID drivers....
by Guest Noctaire- 0 replies
We created an ASR backup on a server with a RAID array (mirrored drives), swapped the drives out, then ran a restore on the new drives. Everything appeared to go ok but when the restore was done and the system restarted, it just kept rebooting. Didn't appear to make it past the POST. Are there any known issues with an ASR recovery and RAID controller drivers? Although it makes sense one would have to do the F6/add drivers bit during a fresh installation, I don't see why the restored version of Windows would be unable to handle the same controller on a new drive pair.

How to set up a Message of the Day - techniques & advice please
by Guest Hackwood- 0 replies

Windows server 2003 XP Pro Clients with 1 or 2 Windows 2K pro clients Hi there, I need to set up a message of the day & I don't want to spend any money! I know that I could use Domain Security policy and create a crude Title & Message there but this has to be something that an end user would be able to change so it cuts that one out. I have currently created a folder on a global share & that contains a Word document which can be saved as an html file. I've also created a shortcut to go into All Users/Start Menu/Program Files/StartUp to run the html file. Basically it works OK & apart from making the IE shortcut do a few things (no navigatio…

by Guest wileyfox- 0 replies

I can no longer scan for updates on 2 pc's unless automatic update is on. Also all pc's have changed from windows update to microsoft update. I really do not want to go to Microsoft update. When I use microsoft update, it attempts to patch Office 2003 sp3 with the sp3 patch and then errors out when it can't do it. Please let me know how to change back to windows update from Microsoft update. Also, I need to be able to do manual downloads again. I need some control over what gets loaded on systems.

Sharing printers on a different domain ?
by Guest pcmangler@googlemail.com- 0 replies

Hi, As part of the way my company does server upgrades, we install a temporary server (a DC for it's own 'TEMP' domain) running SQL and our software, then put Remote Desktop Client on the site's PC's pointing at the temporary server, allowing them to continue using our software via RDP whilst we rebuild their original server. (we transfer roles to a virtual server to run the domain whilst rebuilding). The printing is causing a few problems though, as we share a couple of printers that are attached to the site's PCs, and add them to the temp server on local ports - e.g. \\pc-name\sharename. However, the site's PCs are still on their original domain and whenev…

Large Disk Layout, Best Practices
by Guest Brian McGrew- 0 replies

Good morning All! I've got a brand new server with a RAID 5 controller in it and 6x750GB drives. The box is going to run Win2K3 and be solely a data server and also host Services for Unix. What is the best way to lay out the hard drives and should I do it in hardware or software? Right now the hardware has all six drives in a single RAID 5 array totally up to about 3.75TB of space. I nstalled a copy of Win2K3 Enterprise but it only sees the first 1.75TB of space and the remaining 2TB is unusable and also, I can not covert it to a dynamic disk. Am I taking the totally the wrong approach to this or did I just do something wrong? Or, do I need to g…

Hello folks I'm currently setting a series of server upgrades, from Standard to Enterprise, so as to be able to use over 4GB RAM. All of these servers have severall versions of Oracle databases installed: v6, v10 and IAS. I've set up a test server and, so far, all seems ok, but I'd like to know if anyone here has had to do similar upgrades and, if so, if you found any problems. Thanks for any help

Highly Available VPN server
by Guest LSI- 0 replies
I've been tasked with replacing our W2K RRAS-based VPN server, and rather than just do a simple hardware swap-out, I'd like to introduce high availability in whatever solution I use. This solution could be as simple as providing two different vpn servers, or as complex as a cluster/NLB solution, but I want it to be transparent to the end user. In other words, I want them to be able to double-click a single desktop icon to connect, rather than, "if this one doesn't connect, use the other one." Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Looking for ideas

I use a batch program to print out several hundred documents to a Canon multi-funcion copier. In this process there are both letter and legal size documents and I use the Canon software to compress the legal pages to the size of letter. This has been working now for well over a year. I installed a new Canon MFP (different model) to our environment and it apears to have corrupted something w/ the existing print drivers and I cannot get the original program to work properly. Here is why I am not completely convinced that it is an issue w/ Canon. I print to a different model copier (we also use Konica), the exact same result appears (legal is getting cut o…

Server 2008: UAC woes in Fax and Scan: "unable to access"
by Guest Tech_vs_Life- 0 replies
I'm unable to use "Windows Fax and Scan" on Windows 2008 to send a fax from it locally. I get what seem to be UAC permission issues all over the place. It works fine, however, if I elevate it first ('run as administrator'), but that does no good since I can't do that from code (i.e. auto elevate). 1. Is there way to solve this problem, by setting the right permissions somewhere? 2. Are there other similar problems in Windows 2008, such that I should turn off UAC? Thanks.

IT - Jobs, Interview Questions, Certification
by Guest Naveen- 0 replies

Hi, In the very fast moving IT Industry, there is a need for the people to keep a note of what is happening in the field, what are the latest Jobs available and in which technologies they are available and what companies and also in which cities. And also when applying for Jobs, it is obvious for people to look for Interview Questions in their Technologies and if they are able to find it all at one place, then they can concentrate on studying or doing R&D further on those questions and answers available. And for a better pay pack people are always in a mood of doing certification and at that time they are on a lookout for certification material a…

File Share Audit
by Guest Anonymous562646- 0 replies

Hello, I'm having a request come in my way to audit a file share location on our network where some SQL Server Reporting Services reports are being written to. We extend different set of reports for different clients and some of these reports are scheduled to be written to the file share as excel files. We would like to audit who is accessing those folders and how many times etc. Is there any way to log them to a different log file other than the default files (Event Viewer), so that we can build a report on top of this information? Hence I would like to know from peers in this area whether they have any solution with respect to such type of audit in…
