Event ID 1202 - Error code 0x6fc

Getting this error about every 12 hours, only on one DC. I have followed the directions in KB324383 and found the two accounts that it is unhappy about. Yesterday I found that one of the accounts was in the Login Locally section of the Default Domain Controller Policy and removed it. I didn't find the other one anywhere. This morning I still get the error and issuing the FIND command on the winlogon.log reports the same two accounts as yesterday, however when I run the FIND on the GPT*.* files , those two users names are NOT found in either policy.

Performance of System Calls
by Guest Michael Shire- 0 replies

Is there a calculation that I can do to determine a threshold for "normal", "warning", and "critical" states for the number of system calls per second? Background... Take a look at: http://www.microsoft.com/technet/scriptcenter/topics/win2003/perfmon.mspx It discusses using WMI scripts to monitor performance. One part of the article discusses "System Calls per Second". How do I know when the value that comes back is "good" or "bad"???

The specified network name is no longer available
by Guest pscottllee- 3 replies

We have a file server running W2K3. When trying to copy the file to another W2K3 machine, I get the following error, "the specified network name is no longer available." Nothing gets logged into the log file. From another W2K3 machine on a different subnet, I was able to successfully copy the file. I then copied the file to the server that was having the issues. Networking claims that there are no dropped packets. Anyone have the same issue?

Slow response time as opposed to Windows XP
by Guest mclark2800@gmail.com- 5 replies

Hi All, I have been running Quickbooks and CAD files off of a Dell Poweredge SC1320 for a while now. I recently had some hardware issues with the server that required me to move the files to an XP machine as a temporary fix. Since the move to the XP machine my users are telling me that file access is much quicker. CAD files open and are saved much faster and the Quickbooks files are also noticeably faster. Once I put the server back in the users then tell me that the speed is back to the way it was, slow. Performance monitor doesn't show any glaring issues. The server and XP box specs are as follows: Server 2.8 GHz Xeon 512 MB Ram SATA Drives conf…

Introducing PowerShell (MSH) - Windows answers to linux shell?
by Guest Pavs 2007- 0 replies
PowerShell is built on top of the .NET Framework and replaces the old process of using text to pass data like the current CMD shell. PS is a scriptable language that provides an alternative to the manual changes you make through a GUI. It is more powerful than Perl or WSH, although those two technologies can help with automating a lot of tasks. Let's look at what PS is and is not and hopefully it will help clear things up a bit. http://www.windowhaxor.net/index.php/2007/07/31/introducing-powershell-msh-windows-answers-to-linux-shell/

Directory Service

Does the Directory Service in a windows 2000 domain replaces the computer browser service. I suspect the browser service from generating a lot of network traffic, so I want to disable the service. In the Windows 2000 domain are 2003 member servers present, xp and 2000 pro clients. All the comments are very welcome, thanks in advance

Setting up DFS?
by Guest WetBehindEars- 0 replies

Im confused. I set the root up as a shared file on DC1. Now do I set up a root target to the other server I want to replicate the data to? Next do I create a link to a folder on DC1 (for example HR) and then I set another target link to the server I want to replicate it to, correct? When I set the link up and tried to set the replication up I get a red X through the main folder I want to replicate to the secondary server. This is what I get: This target is not eligible because the folder overlaps an existing replicated folder on that computer. What does this mean? Could it be because I previously tried this under a different root/link? Do I ne…

server 2003, vpn disables sharing folders?
by Guest fvdasvsd- 1 reply

I need my Server 2003 to accept VPN connections for remote access. I ran the wizard and gave a user access to use remote connections. However, after enabling VPN server via the wizard, nobody can access resources located on the server unless I disable routing and remote access (shared folders for example). How can I simultaneously run VPN server as well as shared resources on the LAN? Thanks.

Sort of an odd question ...... desktop vs. laptops
by Guest Dave Cason- 5 replies

Hi Everyone, Here's sort of odd basic question. I have SBS running with about 10 local clients and I now have 5 of them who are going to laptops. So sometimes they’re here and others they could be working from a hotel, etc. We run Exchange and File and Print services and that’s about it. What’s the best way for them to get in to the network? If I make them members as usual then when they go out they won’t be able to authenticate to the server when they want to work outside the office. - Should I make them all local accounts and have them work in a workgroup only to be able to get in and pull mail, etc? - Should I create two profiles on the la…

After installed this version of visual studio i have been seeing on the notification area the windows security Alerts when i connect to the internet. It says your machine firewall is being off and make it on for better security. when i try to to enable it's state a message box appears saying i couldn't change and suggests to change it in the control panel. I opened the firewall icon in the control panel , but i found out the firewall is still ON. I made it on and off to cancel the alert on the notifaction area but it stays there. i never saw such kind of behaviour before the installation of this product. what could be the problem. bkg

Missing files with name starting above "H"...
by Guest Ralph Malph- 1 reply

I have a user who stores all their data on a shared folder on a Windows 2k3 server. In the users folder there are several thousand files. Starting at the end of last week any file or folder starting with letters I - Z do not show up in the folder. I have tried to access it from multiple PCs, using accounts with "Full" permissions and I cannot get it to show me any of the files starting with "I" and above. If I go to a DOS prompt I can do a "Dir" command and they all show up, I just can't see them in a GUI window. So that the user could continue to work I use the DOS command line to copy all the "missing" files in to a temp folder on my local PC called "LR…
