NTFS date attribute problem
by Guest Luka Obersnu- 1 reply

Hi all, I just found interesting discovery while searching thru disk for files older than, for example 1.1.2007 (to free up some disk space on folders with users documents). Some of the files have date created newer than date modified. I was curious and I have also checked the files in c:\Windows directory and got the same results. I found out that this can happen on any type of file, for example doc, cab, jpeg, … We have Windows 2003 SBS R2 SP2 running on HP Proliant ML 350 G4 hardware. Is this some kind of bug, because we didn’t change date and time on our windows server since we installed it? Does someone have an explanation? Luka

NT Backup fails to run sporadically W2K3-R2

I have a strange problem with a server that I recently upgraded (installed from scratch - NOT in-place upgrade) from Windows 2000 server to Windows 2003-R3(SP2) server I use NTBackup for nightly tape backup and sometimes it just doesn't run at all. There doesn't *seem* to be a pattern. There's no error mesage - it just doesn't run. BUT - if I run it manually it never fails. Here's the relevant hardware config: .. IBM 226 Server .. AIC7902B Ultra 320 SCSI .. Sony AIT 50 GB SCSI Drive on Bus Number 0, Target ID 0, LUN 0 - Driver version is "1.0.0.4" (31/08/2004) My backup batch file is rsm refresh /lf"Sony AIT 50 GB SCSI Drive" c:\batch\Sleep 30 C:\WI…

Error reading from file: C:\Program Files\Microsoft Office \ART \Pfiles\MSOffice\Office\MSO7FTP.EXE There are 62 of theses, after which the program runs normally, The workstation has a complete install of our software, including the requires DAO and ADO files (we use both is various modules). How to enlarge the Recycle Bin size
by Guest SmartMac- 0 replies
I am trying to make a very large recycle bin of 50% of the available disk space on a 120GB partition on Windows Server 2003, 32-bit OS. I set the size of the recyle bins individually and made this partition have a 50% of available space for its recycle bin. Most of the space on the partition is free, yet the recyle bin only grows to just 10.7GB and starts dumping the oldest deleted files. There are about 4,800 files and 100 folders in the recyle bin now. Is there some limit on the number of files or folders that the recycle bin can hold, or is there some other explanation for this? -- SmartMac

DC/Exchange LDAP errors
by Guest sihfmis- 2 replies

I am seeing an error in my EV/App "Could not open LDAP session to directory 'XXX.XXX.org' using local service credentials. Cannot access Address List configuration information. Make sure the server 'xxx.xxx.ORG' is running." The call is from an old DC that was demoted but somewhere there still resides a call to the old server. How can I fix this problem? MS indicates to run the Recipient Update Services. Where do I find such a tool?

Ports required for NETSH remote management?
by Guest Anonymous Coward- 0 replies

I'm trying to find which ports need to be opened up on our firewall to allow "netsh dhcp"; we need to pull DHCP utilization stats from a remote network. Is it all done via RPC (135), random ports at 1024+, or what?

Rate/Bandwidth limiting
by Guest Kyle Brotheridge- 0 replies

I've always used *nix for this purpose in the past, but this time it is not possible to have 2 seperate servers, there must be 1 server, and it must be WinSvr2K3. The bottom line is, this server will be the gateway for approx 14 clients. I'll have 2 NIC's in the PC, and I want to rate limit / bandwidth throttle every user internally from the 2nd NIC which will be the WAN connection. But I (obviously) dont want to limit every user's access to the server itself ie access to the server from NIC 1 is not limited. Is this possible with WinSvr2K3? I cant find anything on the internet about rate limiting users in Windows Server let-alone in the configuratio…

Windows Powershell and WMI access to IIS application pools
by Guest theonesuperdave- 0 replies

I was wondering if anyone knows how to use WMI and powershell to access application pools on a remote machine? I have tried different variation of the following command: PS C:\Scripts> gwmi -class IIsApplicationPool -namespace "root\MicrosoftIISv2" - computer [servername] -credential [servername]\testaccount Each time, the command returns with, "Get-WmiObject : Access denied." I have tried both local and domain accounts for the credentials. Also, I have tried things in other posts for setting the Authentication level to PacketPrivacy, and none of this seems to get me around the access error. I have also verified that I have admin access to the remo…

File Server/User Profiles
by Guest marinthal- 3 replies

Hello! I have a W3KSP2 Server that is setup to be a file server only. User home directories are also stored on this server. Under Documents & Settings, a partial profile is being created for users. (I say "partial" because its 205kb in size and only contains: Cookies, Application Data, Local Settings and ntuser.dat) Can anyone tell me why? We do not use roaming profiles anywhere in our domain. Users do not have local log on rights to this server either. Thanks, Mari

FSRM Quotas - Rights question
by Guest Jeff- 1 reply
We're looking to implement 2003 R2 FSRM Quotas, and everything's been going well. However, I have been unable to find any documentation on how to (or even if its possible to) delegate rights to manage quotas on the file servers. I work in a large organization with a couple of helpdesks and over 100 distributed file servers. If the client gets a notification that they're exceeding thier quota, I would like our helpdesk to be able to validate a client's quota and possibly extend the quota if they're out of space. However, I don't want to give all my helpdesk people full admin rights on the file servers themselves... I've been unable to find any threa…

How to Change the Log-On Domain Name Prompt
by Guest Tom Celica- 1 reply

Hello, our company has changed their name, and I don't want to change the Domain name. Our Exchange server is already accepting email for both the old domain name and the new domain name. I heard that we could change the name of the domain presented to the user, at the logon prompt. I want to Administratively make it appear as if I have changed the Domain Name, without doing too much work. Here is what I would like presented to the user at log-on Username: gjetson Password: xxxxxxxxxxxxxxx Domain: New-domain-Name Thanks -tom
