RSHSVC question
by Guest freedom rock- 0 replies
I'm trying to get rshsvc from the Windows 2000 resource kit to work on Win 2K3, but I'm running into problems. When I try to send a remote command from one host to another I get a "Access Denied" message. The instructions are a bit sparse, and I have tried with a hosts.equiv, and a rhosts file that I've tried in several folders with no success. Does anyone know where the files should be located? Can I use IP addresses in the files instead of domain names? Thanks Dan H Canton, MA

BACKUP - cannot drill down to any files in BKF file.
by Guest ThomasAJ- 0 replies
W2003, C: drive only, did ASR backup on weekend. I wanted to test restoring a single file. Attached the USB External HDD, started up BACKUP, went to Restore... tab, right-clicked on the BKF file that is in the left pane, clicked Catalog. There is no '+' on the C: drive to drill-down. (yes there is a '+' on the 'Backup.bkp created date/time' file which expands to 3 items being C:, C:, System State) When I hover the mouse over one of the items above, a tick/check mark appears - I presume to allow selection of the whole of the item but no drill-down. -- Regards Tom

Hi, I have been tasked with installing Synctoy at about 100 laptops throughout our organization. I would like to write a vbscript to install the software, create the necessary pairings, and then perform a sync. I have found some command line commands to do the sync but does anyone know if there is a way to do the pairings? Thanks. Kevin

We repair the profiles by renaming them to .old, this works but there has to be a cause to these damages profiles. Windows Server 2003, IIS 6: I need to address a problem where a client has moved his FTP folder structure from his C: drive to his D: drive. He is now having problems getting it up and running. I too need more details, however, my question is: Question: there appears to be a specific lack of information on the web concerning "moving" an IIS6 FTP site from one location to another. Is it that simple? Or should it be recreated? Thanks, pnadon

RIS to WIM (WDS) image conversion
by Guest szilagyic- 0 replies
Hello: We recently installed Win 2003 Server SP2 on a server that we primarily use for RIS. RIS was upgraded to WDS with SP2 according to the instructions released by Microsoft (http://technet2.microsoft.com/ WindowsVista/en/library/9e197135-6711-4c20-bfad-fc80fc2151301033.mspx? mfr=true). We have configured WDS exactly as this documentation describes. Microsoft failed to include any instructions on how to upgrade RIS images to WDS. After some reading we determined how to do this. Currently this is where we ran in to a roadblock. When we try to convert our old RIS images to WIM images, the process goes through until the very end of the progress bar, it s…

Sharing printer from x64 without 64-bit drivers
by Guest TurboFool- 0 replies
I'm working with a team to migrate a client over to several new servers, most of which are running Server 2003 x64. Their older servers were on x86. 90% of the project is routine and not giving us any trouble, but I'm running into issues with the printers. I'm trying to move their shares over to the new server (connecting to them via IP address) and running into issues with lack of 64-bit support by their manufacturers. Most are HP LaserJets which are working fine. But I've got a couple of Canons, Brothers, and Lexmarks that don't seem to have ANY x64 drivers in production for Server 2003 (some have Vista x64). Now I have absolutely no need to actually PRINT…

I have two Windows 2003 Server systems. When I open a folder on one of the servers from my Windows XP Home laptop, any changes in the folder (copying files, etc.) automatically appear. When I do the same thing on the new server, the folder only updates when I manually refresh it. Any suggestions on why this is happening and how I can fix this would be appreciated. -- Mike Schumann

fax server question - tg
by Guest TomandJerry- 0 replies
We have purchased a new internal modem and installed it in a Windows 2003 server, and installed the fax services. Everything seems to be working well but we are not able to fax to most of the numbers we have tried. We have 3 local faxes. We can successfully fax to 1 of the 3. One of the others gives an error "there was no answer" at the other end. The other one keeps saying "busy". We are able to successfully fax to one fax number. We have done this 3 times with no problems. Our modem is a nexxtech brand modem. We have played with the settings and we have not been able to see any changes. Can someone please help. thanks already, tom

Allow a network adator to use a non-domain dhcp server
by Guest Gwylim Austin- 0 replies
Hi, I am trying to setup two servers for some testing, one to act as a DC the other an Internet gateway. The DC seems to be running fine with all necessary roles installed (including a DHCP server). However the Gateway is unable to connect it to its internet connection when it is logged onto the domain. When logged on with the local account it works fine. I read somewhere that this is to do with the fact that the server is not allowed to get its internet IP address due to the fact that it is from a non-domain DHCP server. Is this correct, and how do I go about altering this restriction for just this one adaptor. Many thanks in advance. Gwylim Aus…

RIS Error 00004e44 - WePOS Image
by Guest Jeff Clegg- 0 replies

Hi there. I'm trying to get a WePOS (Windows Embedded Point of Service) RiPrep image to deploy via RIS. Unfortunately after I log into the Client Installation Wizard and choose my RiPrep Image I get Error 00004e44 - which leads me to KB262801 (http://support.microsoft.com/kb/262801). I do have WePOS RiSetup image on the RIS box. One of the bullet points in KB262801 mentions an NTOSKRNL.exe hotfix, which we have applied since the WePOS 1.1 version does not ship with a version of NTOSKRNL.exe (The step by step guide at http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ms911830.aspx says to install http://support.microsoft.com/kb/814199 on page 2). I have tr…

MS DNS Server and corrupt cache records
by Guest Richard Price- 0 replies

Hi, I have been having a reoccuring issue where my Windows DNS Server suddenly stops resolving high profile major websites (news.bbc.co.uk as an example), and the only way to get it to resolve these domains again is to clear the cache. This happens every few days. Is this a known issue, or is there something that I am supposed to be doing? Is there a long term solution? Regards Richard

Beta testing website

Hi All, This is a bit off-topic but may be of interest to some people. I have just found a website that looks interesting. It lets companies register their products for beta testing, and testers specify what sort of products that they would like to test. Sort of a beta testing dating service - Membership is free. It look like it is just starting out, but is a promising concept. Betatestnow.com Cheers Mike
