Hello, On a Windows 2003/R2 Server running a certificate authority I'm seeing failed certificate update requests all of a sudden. It started around the change of the year, so it might very well be some expired certificate. The event log says: CertSvc ID 22 Die Anforderung 49 konnte aufgrund eines Fehlers nicht ausgeführt werden: Die Sperrfunktion konnte die Sperrung nicht überprüfen, da der Sperrserver offline war. 0x80092013 (-2146885613). Die Anforderung bezog sich auf CN=somemachinename. Weitere Informationen: Fehler beim Verifizieren der Anforderungssignatur oder des Signierungszertifikats After some searching it is my conclusion that the CA…

Hi, I was wondering, if I take regular snapshots of my system drive (C:), and, say, a system file becomes corrupted and Windows Server does not boot, if there is any way to restore a snapshot? Maybe by doing a temporary install of Windows Server into a separate directory, or some other way? Thanks, Dimitri

Impersonation

I am having a permissions issue right now that is giving me fits. I have a test application right now that allows me to upload a video file to the server. After upload of the video, the file is converted immediately using Windows Media Encoder. The video file is initially uploaded to a temp dir on a seperate file utility server. The web app and encoder reside and run on the webserver. Now here is the problem: I currently impersonate a user who has admin rights on both boxes (atleast while testing) the user has the same password and same rights on both servers. When I log in with my own seperate account and attempt to run the webapp I can upload the f…

File Share Audit
by Guest Anonymous562646- 0 replies

Hello, I'm having a request come in my way to audit a file share location on our network where some SQL Server Reporting Services reports are being written to. We extend different set of reports for different clients and some of these reports are scheduled to be written to the file share as excel files. We would like to audit who is accessing those folders and how many times etc. Is there any way to log them to a different log file other than the default files (Event Viewer), so that we can build a report on top of this information? Hence I would like to know from peers in this area whether they have any solution with respect to such type of audit in…

What should general shared folder default permissions be?
by Guest Alan-Seattle- 0 replies

When we create a file server folder, we use the Share Full Control to Everyone policy and lock down folder security using NTFS (Security) permissions. When we create a folder on our server, it defaults to Administrators (servername\Administrators)-FC; CREATOR OWNER-Special-FC of subfolders and files only; SYSTEM-FC. I can't find any documentation on recommended standard folder security. What are the Administrators (servername/Administrators) and SYSTEM FC permissions used for? If I remove those 2 permissions and simply lock the folder down to Domain Admins-FC and give the proper folder permissions to the groups requesting it, what am I undoing functi…

Windows 2003 Serv locks up when performing UltraCopy to HPStorageWorks Ultrium 960 Tape drive.

Windows 2003 Serv locks up when performing UltraCopy to HPStorageWorks Ultrium 960 Tape drive. Overview I'm having an intermittent problem with a file server locking up when executing the UltraCopy utility (UtraBac software. ver 8.). The copy utility copies files from a directory on Buffalo Tarastation which contains UltraBac backup files from a separate server on the network. In other words, the files that are being copied to tape are backup files from a different server on the network. The Procedures I use for executing the UltraCopy utility are shown below. If the program crashes, it will always occur at the last step in the process when the files are ac…

Hotfix for kernel power manager not in SP2?
by Guest Dario- 5 replies

Hi. Anybody know how to solve the following problem??? I want to power manage the CPU cores of an AMD Opteron using PoweNow drivers ... however: Seems like a previously solved problem with a hotfix for a deadlock in the kernel power manager of Win2003 SP1 did not make it into Win2003 SP2. There seems to be no hotfix at the moment? Whenever I apply the processor driver to the Win2003 SP2 system a problem with symptoms like kb924441 seems to appear. At some point the system will stop so I dont use the opteron powernow driver at the moment effectively not power managing the cores - but we have a green policy here!. So need to fix this asap. So a…

Hi, I was just wondering if there was a necessity to have licensing logging service enabled on Windows 2000 server at all? Also, I upgraded a win2k domain controller to win2003. Licensing service is still enabled. Should there be any issues or dependencies if I disable this service on all servers? thanks in advance.
