RIS and local admin account disabled
by Guest agentc0re@gmail.com- 0 replies

I've googled and search MS KB's and can't figure out why my local admin account is being disabled on fresh RIS imaged PC's. here is my riprep.sif from my most used image. You will noticed i have the line "EnableAdminAccountOnDomainJoin = 1" in there. However, i've tried 3 variations. Removing that line, keeping the original which is "DisableAdminAccountOnDomainJoin = 1" but chaning the 1 to 0 and 3rd is having the current line. Anyone have any suggestions? ------------------------------------ [data] floppyless = "1" msdosinitiated = "1" OriSrc = "\\%SERVERNAME%\RemInst\%INSTALLPATH%\%MACHINETYPE%" OriTyp = "4" LocalSourceOnCD = 1 EnableAdminAccount…

TerminalServices\W2KServer\VistaHome
by Guest gh- 0 replies

I have a W2K server, that the users have been acessing with XP Professional and Vista Business for the past year. We have a new machine (HP) that came with Vista Home on it. The user was acessing the terminal server without any problems until a couple of weeks ago, they updated Vista and whenever they would acess the TS, they would get a message that the TS License was going to expire in X number of days. Anyway it is down to a few days left and I was wondering what to do. None of our other machines are getting any messages like this. TIA

by Guest Bruce- 0 replies

I have a 2003 Server, which is also used as a terminal server. The server randomly goes into sleep mode while remote users are using the server. I have gone into the power options as administrator, and set the everything to Never shut off. This only started happening within the last year. Is there a registry setting I can set, or can I disable ACPI in the bios. This is a SuperMicro server about 4 years old

Windows shutdown/logoff interrupt script
by Guest Wendy- 0 replies

Did you ever find a solution to your wish to cancel a shutdown/logoff request if there are specific processes running? I am trying to implement the same fix on our automation servers and happened onto your discussion. So far, I'm leaning toward loading PSTools on each server and writing a script that utilizes PsList to verify that none of the critical processes are running but I would like to know what options you (or anyone else reading this) came across. Thanks, Wendy

2008 + Remote Desktop = UGLY!
by Guest Gary- 0 replies

Hi, Has anyone managed to get remote desktop on 2008 to actually look reasonable? It's like Vista set to Windows Classic. Almost everything just looks wrong. Server Manager is fine as are other things in MMC, but Windows Explorer, Task Scheduler, the Start Menu; they're all over the place. Or have I just got something setup wrong? Gary

High Page Fault - System process
by Guest Kent- 0 replies
Hi, I'm not sure whether high page fault for a system process will cause any unexpected reboot. It's a Win2k3 server with SP1; 2.5GB RAM. Server uptime is just 2 days. Image Name - System Page Faults - 5,910,717 Based on aboave statistics, it's very high. I've enable perfmon to check page fault/second, sometimes it spike to > 2000 per second. Any comment on this? Memory usage is pretty normal.

I'm a Novell guy working with my first w2003 server. I'm use to a "rconj" utility which gives me access to the server like I was sitting at the local console. How do I get the same with a 2003 server. What I have read so far seems to point me towards a remote command line console. Am I missing something? -- Paul

Hello all, I was wondering if the standard Disk Defragmenter that comes with Server2003 will perform a sufficient defrag on a RAID 10 volume (or any RAID volume). If not, what software options do I have to perform the defragmentation? Thanks!

RRAS NIC Knocking Out Local Access
by Guest anthony@necrofiends.com- 0 replies
- 163 views
I'm running a VPN using Routing and Remote Access on a SBS 2003 Server. It has worked fine for months. Today local users weren't able to access the server unless the RRAS NIC was disabled. Users connected through the VPN could still access the server without any issues. No new software or updates have been installed. I'm kind of puzzled. How do I fix it?

We have Windows 2003 SBS SP1 installed, and I am trying to install the R2 components on top of it. The WSUS install is failing during the final configuration. The log errors are below. I searched the registry for that COM component, and did not find it. I searched the Internet for information on this COM class, and didn't find it. Any suggestions? Thanks! Hi there, In my production environment I have a server in a remote region that is connected via a slow VPN connection at about 100kbit. I want to mimic this connection speed in my test environment so that I can do some stress testing of our application. Is there a tool I can use to limit the bandwidth of my network card to 100kbit while I do my stress test? Thanks, Mark.

Folder Redirection Issue
by Guest nevets2001uk- 1 reply
We have set up a GPO that enables Folder Redirection of My Documents. This part works very well. The annoyance is that the My Documents folder is appearing as available Offline even though we have not set this up and the share that is used for redirected folders is setup so that offline caching is not allowed. I really can't work out why this is happening? -- Cheers, Steve Gordon MCSE, MCSA: Messaging

Connecting to File Server
by Guest anthony@necrofiends.com- 1 reply
- 163 views
I set-up a new server on my network. It's primarily being used for storage. I joined it to the domain, so it's basically acting as a domain computer. When users try to access shared files, they're prompted for a username and password. They do that and they're denied access. If I set-up a local account for them on the server, it lets them access the shares. How do I make it so they're not prompted for a username or password?

Is there a Computer Object Type when using a WORKGROUP
by Guest KayP- 1 reply
Quick question for you. I am setting up a simple file server configured with WORKGROUP. I do not see client machines appear as computer object types like you see in AD setup. Do computer object types exist in WORKGROUP config? I was hoping to set permissions to share on server based on the client machine object and not necessarily on user level. This is because I have a service running on client machine that will be accessing the share. Any advice is greatly appreciated. Thanks.

Shadow copy
by Guest Ray234- 0 replies

We have used the shadow copy feature for years, and it is very helpful. Lately, though, it has been failing once or twice a week. I've researched the errors online, but can't find the right fix. The errors I'm getting are: (1) "When preparing a new volume shadow copy for volume D:, the shadow copy storage on D: could not be located in non-critical space. Consider using a shadow copy storage volume that does not have any shadow copies.", (2) "There was insufficient disk space on volume D: to grow the shadow copy storage for shadow copies of D:. As a result of this failure all shadow copies of volume D: are at risk of being deleted." and (3) "The shadow…

Disable password complexity rules
by Guest Matt- 1 reply

First of all, I thought for sure I posted this question to this same board last night, but can't find it anywhere. Forgive me if I double- posted. I did try to find it. We are implementing a web app that users will be able to change their own passwords, and accounts can be unlocked by certain users. This app will also be managing all of our password requirements, age, history, complexity, etc, so I need to turn those rules off in the Default Domain Policy. All of the password policies were set (Password history, Minimum and Maximum Password age, length, and also complexity. Initially, I set all of these policies to Not Defined, thinking that would turn the…

Error in Security Event log after AD install..
by Guest Colin- 1 reply
Dear All Here's the background, Windows 2000 Server running AD, added a W2K server to the domain, all well, applied service packs hot fixes etc. Then made the W2K server into a domain controller (no problems with adprep), everything working perfectly except for an annoying security event being logged every so often. This only started after AD installation, it appears that the administrator account is trying to do something that requires 'act as part of the OS' priviledge. I would be most grateful if anyone could help me to troubleshoot this and correct the problem. I have attched the event below. Event Type: Failure Audit Event Source: Security Ev…

Windows Home Server vs Windows Server Enterprise
by Guest hufaunder@yahoo.com- 1 reply

I really like what Windows Home Server has to offer: *Automated daily backups of multiple computers *Remote access *Streaming music *The way storage can be expanded including redundancy Now I have a Windows Server Enterprise license sitting around doing nothing. So rather then shelling out money for Windows Home Server I am wondering if Windows SErver Enterprise can do all of the above as well. Any input is appreciated. Thanks
