Offline Folders - Windows Server 2003
by Guest Sven-D- 4 replies

I am having a trouble with users home folders and offline folders. The issue is like this: when making a folder offline (either through group policy og by right clicking and selecting make available offline) I get the following error: "Offline Files (\\server\share): Unable to make 'share' available offline on \\server\users\username. Access is denied." The structure on the server looks like this: - users : shared folder, domain users full control (share permission) - username : subfolders with the name of the user. created automatically when the user is created in AD. According to an article I found, it is a permissions issue with the top-folder "use…

setting up my Windows 2003 server as an NTP
by Guest Jacky- 4 replies

I have one Windows 2003 server, which I would like to set it up so that clients (other Windows PC) can sync the time to it via NTP. I have set the server but when client trying to update the time, it said the peer's stratum is less than the host's stratum. Anyone has any idea of how I can overcome it? I don't see any stratum setting there. Thanks.

LDAP and surfing
by Guest ki4zji- 8 replies

Here's the problem... One of our installations is having what appears to be intermittent problems with internet surfing download speeds. We have replaced the DSL modem and thoroughly tested all the associated LAN hardware. The DSL provider has now responded saying: "I have taken a further look and it seems that your server (LAN IP: 192.168.0.2) seems to be using something called "LDAP" which tries to verify certain information before allowing your PC to bring up that webpage. This LDAP in your server is not recognizing certain pages correctly. I would suggest the following:" The address x.x.x.2 is, in fact, our windows 2003 server, however I fail to see h…

Automaticcly logged off the moment I login in on the DC using any account
by Guest NoSpam Man- 13 replies

Hi, I have added an external eSATA drive to my server which I wanted to install vista onto. The idea was I could shut down w2003 server, plug in the external eSATA drive, change the BIOS to put this external drive as the first boot drive, and boot up vista. I would also be able to remove this drive, boot up and go back into W2003 server. So I setup the bios as above, with the eSATA drive plugged in, booted up installed Vista onto the external drive, and it works fine. Problem is that now there is a problem with the W2003 server. It boots with 'service failed to start.......) message, and goes to the login screen, but when I log in to the server it …

No "Log Off" or "Disconnect" from Server 2008 Remote Desktop?
by Guest 9Nails- 3 replies
Hi, I've just setup my first Windows 2008 Standard server and noticed one odd thing, it doesn't have the "Disconnect" option like Server 2003 did in the bottom of the Start Menu. The option to Log Off is there, but it's burried and I would like to put it back under the Start Menu and not hide it under the options button. So does "Lock" replace the "Disconnect" option? And can I add "Log Off" as a button or link on the new "Start Menu"? (Not the Classic Start Menu) I do like the new Vista-esque menu, and especially the Start Search feature. I haven't had any serious problems with Server 2008 yet. I did have some minor SQL 2005 backwards compatability i…

Disappearing hard drive space on 2k3 DC
by Guest DonnaJ@abbe-lib.org- 10 replies

I've got a Domain Controller that is low on space. The thing is, I just freed up 25 GB on hard drive space on it a couple of weeks ago (relocated the software storage folder). I did this because it was low on space and running poorly because of it. And now this server is running so slow that I have to reboot it several time a day and it only has 3.38 GB's of free space. How do I figure out what is filling up the hard drive? We use DFS replication. This DC holds the Schema Master Role. I'm sure you will need more info in order to be of help; I just don't know what to posted. Just ask. Thanks, DJ

do I need to enable dot net 1.1 on server 2008?
by Guest James- 3 replies

I have a program I tried to install on server 2008 which said it requires ..net 1.1.4322... I assumed this older version would be built in to server 2008 and so I checked the windows directory and there is a folder for this specific version. So why does this program's install routine think its not there? Do I need to explicitly enable .net 1.1 somehow first? If so where? I did not see it listed in the add/remove features section?
