Help with RDR File system blue screen
by Guest Edward- 1 reply
I am a little stuck with rescuing a windows 2000 server (with exchange 2K) which was happy to boot to safe mode, but when asking it to boot normally, it will just give a blue screen prompting Rdr_file_system error. This happens after it was on the "making network connection" screen for about 5 minutes in initial boot up. I have not installed any new hardware or software and to make matter worse, I loss the emergency repair disk! I have also tried using the "last known good configuration" option after F8 and that failed too. Any suggestion or help from anyone?

Hello- I have a sticky problem that is causing me grief. In one of our labs I this command to connect a network printer and make it available to all users of the computer: rundll32 printui.dll,PrintUIEntry /ga /n\\server\%printername% The command seems to have worked because when i connect with any user that has admin rights the printer shows up and works just fine. However when i log in with the normal account that would be used on the computer which is just a normal user account the printer does NOT show up. Also when I browse for the printer and right click on it and click connect to connect it manually I get the following error: "You do no…

all external web functionality goes down

I have a Windows 2003 server that I am using to host a website. The problem is that at least once a day all external web functionality comes to a hault. The reason I only say external is because I can still go to the website using the internal server name or IP. And the reason I say 'comes to a hault' is because I am able to access the website for a couple hours at a time, at which when things go bad restarting the server brings things back to working condition again for another couple hours. Below is my configuration. External IP 1 - Firewall 1 Internal IP 192.168.111.33 Gateway 192.168.111.1 DNS Server 192.168.111.9 External IP 2 - Firewa…

I tried to remove the mirror from Disk 0, however, I get an error :Logical Disk Manager, operation failed to complete. The server is running for now, but I need to replace this drive. Can someone help. Thanks,

CALs
by Guest John- 3 replies

Hello all: Our company is a little late updating to 2003 Server. We have two 2000 Servers right now and will be purchasing a 2003 Server very soon. There are roughly 40-50 workstations connecting to these servers (about half 2000 and half XP). Will the CALs for the 2000 and XP OSes work with 2003 Server? Is there anything we need to purchase beyond 2003 Server when we buy the hardware? Thanks.

General Share
by Guest Adam- 1 reply

No "General Share" has never seen any military action ;-) I have a General Network Share where all my users have full access. Some of the sub folders have limited access, all via NTSF permissions. I would like to stop users from creating folders at the root level of this share without effecting my current permissions on the subfolders. Is this possible, What permissions should I set the root share to? I still want to abiliy to have some subfolders havd full access but no to the root share. Is this wise or am I potentially causeing more issues? Adam

Username in the start menu changes to logon name
by Guest Microman- 3 replies

This is causing me problems on two different server2003 sbs servers. after a while, no idea how long it takes but something like an hour or two, when you click on Start, the name at the top has gone from "John Doe [Widgets Incorporated]" to "johnd" where johnd is the user's logon name. At first logon, the John Doe [Widgets Incorporated] is displayed at the top of the start menu, but after a while, it has changed and the Outllok connection to the Exchange server is slow to the point of being unuseable. Log off and back on cures all of this for a while. I have not yet installed SP2 as I am trying to read through ALL of the many issues and work arounds fo…

Q: My internal domain name is set to mydomain.com (for example) however the my web page (located on an internet server outside of the intranet) is located on http://www.mydomain.com. I created a entry in the DNS to reroute queries to the correct IP however I have discovered that my staff's mail pop server is actuall mydomain.com. Given my internal domain is also mydomain.com if I creat a DNS entry to reroute queries of mydomain.com am I likely to have problems. Or is there a method that can do this safely with pop queries from Outlook email progs.

Help with understanding windows licensing

I am in the process of adding 3 new Windows 2003 servers to our network. 2 terminal servers and 1 Exchange 2003 server. We are on a Windows 2000 domain using Exchange 2000. I will be keeping the domain on Windows 2000 for now and upgrading Exchange to 2003. I have about 50 users. 32 of them will be using the terminal servers and everyone will be using exchange. The 32 users will be split up between the 2 terminal servers. So here is my understanding, please correct me if i'm wrong: I need 32 Terminal Server "per user" CALs. Now do I need 16 Windows 2003 "per user" CALs for EACH terminal server? Same thing with Exchange. I know I need 50 exchange CALs, but…

SP2 Upgrade Failure
by Guest Ron- 1 reply

I have a Windows 2003 Server Enterprise Edition with Exchange 2003 SP2. I'm trying to upgrade to Windows 2003 Server SP2 with a CD that I ordered from Microsoft WindowsServer 2003 R2. During the upgrade I receive this error message "e:\54635a1ec33cc6449ef451899e\I386\update\update.inf file is not correct". What does this mean inf file is not correct and how do I correct it? I have upgraded several other servers with this CD and have had no problem. I did try to upgrade to SP2 on this server several months ago with the downloaded version but had a similar problem. Any suggestions.

by Guest Kaddie- 11 replies

Hi, We got a request from a director to give everyone in our org a roaming profile. About 500 users. Some on a slow network link that we dont want to roam. We are assigning the Roaming Profiles via OU's. We use a GPO that does folder redirection. This is placed on each of the OU's with each users properties/profile tab has the Profile path set to the location on the network where the profile is stored. So this does 2 things creates a folder for each user called user data and user profiles. The user data folder stores application data and desktop. The user profile folder stores all the roaming stuff like folders, deskop as per how roaming profil…

My question is, how from the ADS can i map and drive and run a command from the mapped drive. I try this with the commands embedded in a batch file but it just errors out with unknown error. What exactly is the point of PE in ADS, is it actually usable? Matthew

I need to replace a network adapter on one of our domain servers. Can someone direct me to all things I need to do in settings to make sure it works fine. I was planning on using the same static IP address but I don't have to if it is better not to. This is our SQL server and not a domain controller. Thanks. David

I am having problems administrering a Win2003 Server R2 IIS website from Windows XP. I installed the Adminpak.msi from the \I386 folder of disk 1 of the Server install disk, but I continue to get an error message stating I can't administer a IIS6.0 system from an IIS5.1 system when I try to connect to the Win2003 server IIS using the mmc snap-in. Can anyone help me with this? Thanks in advance. Please post any replies to the newsgroup. Looking for some quota management guidance
by Guest Clint Bergman- 0 replies

Hi all, We run an AD shop on Server 2003 SP2, and have storage quotas setup for some of our NTFS volumes. I'm trying to come up with a solution that will do one of two things: 1) Allow a user X number of grace logins once they have exceeded their storage quota then deny them access with an appropriate error message (less desirable) 2) Deny user a desktop session once they have exceeded their quota limit, instead presenting them with a dialog box (or system, whatever) that will allow them to move/delete files until they are once again within the limits of their storage quota. Once this has been achieved they can again login as normal. Does anyone have a sug…
