Downloaded the Server 2003 trial Enterprise image name X13-05665.img and tried to install in a vmware workstation enviroment. After creating the partition formating drive it then start to copy the file but errors with the following: Setup cannot copy the file: (in order of errors during install) kodak_dc.icm mchgrcoi.dll msyuv.dll pid.dll srgb.icm tsbyuv.dll wowfax.dll wowfaxui.dll mouclass.sys Retry does nothing you have to skip them, this then causes the install once complete to not be able to add hardware like mouse and network card, making the system useless. Multiple home folders for users
by Guest ruzar.lite@gmail.com- 6 replies

We have a Windows 2003 server Active Directory environment with remote users connecting via Citrix. Something we have noticed is that with some users and not all, is that there is a second home folder being created for some users. What should be normally, "\\server\homeshare\ %username%" we see some users with an additional folder, "\\server \homeshare\%username%.%domain%" Any ideas on what causes this and how to fix it? We see users are putting two sets of data into both folders and could cause problems in the event of the need to restore from backup and such.

When to move from Standard to Enterprise
by Guest Joe- 0 replies

We have a production database server which is probably at about 350 G now in terms of disk space used by data and log files, there are four databases on the server which is running SQL Server 2005 Standard edition SP2 with 16 G RAM. Performance is OK, it's not great obviously our clients want much better. I can go to the microsoft product page http://www.microsoft.com/sql/editions/enterprise/comparison.mspx for a comparison between Standard and Enterprise but because of the big difference in cost I need to be able to be sure going to Enterprise at this point is the right thing to do. Would anyone be able to give me any thoughts on if there are other load/…

Is there anyway for the computer name, first, and last name to be entered manually before the install of the image using WDS. With RIS it was done by editing the custom.osc file like this. <FORM ACTION="OSCUST"> First name: <INPUT NAME="FIRSTNAME" SIZE=63 MAXLENGTH=63><BR> Last name: <INPUT NAME="LASTNAME" SIZE=63 MAXLENGTH=63><BR> Computer name: <INPUT NAME="MACHINENAME" SIZE=63 MAXLENGTH=63><BR> Directory service path: <INPUT NAME="MACHINEOU" MAXLENGTH=512><BR> </FORM> Now, I know I can do this unattended by placing a sysprep.inf in the $oem$\$1\sysprep folder but the problem is, it uses the na…

Hello, I'd like to use Remote Desktop from and to the same machine. For this purpose I created a user who doesn't have administrator rights, and added its login to the list of users who can connect via Remote Desktop. After I fill the login and password fields and click connect I get the following message: "The client could not connect. You are already connected to the console of this computer. A new console session cannot be established." Could anyone explain why it is impossible to have Remote Desktop session for which origin and destination of connection are the same? Or maybe I do something wrong, and more need to be set up for such cases? I…

I have a Windows Server 2003 Standard install with 5 Widnows XP Pro SP2 clients. This server houses both regular file shares and our Small Business Accounting installation (on MSDE). After logging in everything will appear to work well for about 30 minutes to an hour. After that, the time to open a file or browse a folder on the server will take anywhere from 1 to 5 minutes and connectivity to the SBA server data is impossible - it will simply come up as "unable to locate server". This originally happened on one PC (an HP laptop) and was subseuently followed by the remaining computers over the course of a month. We use Symantec Antivirus Corporate Ed. 10 on t…

I am a perflib event id: 2003 warning on a couple of my win2003 servers. Event id: 2003 Source: Perflib The configuration information of the performance library "C:\WINDOWS\system32\aspperf.dll" for the "ASP" service does not match the trusted performance library information stored in the registry. The functions in this library will not be treated as trusted. I tried article 267831 (even though it said for win2k) but didn't help. Any ideas? thanks in advance.

Win2K3 / Stop 8E (& initially 0A) / Multiple Hosts, Early Dec 07
by Guest Jon Kloske- 4 replies

Hi, We have at least 4 terminal servers running the same version of 2K3, with varying sets of software under different usage patterns, and as of about a week ago, they all started bluescreening randomly. We've been so far unable to pin down a cause, however it seems that it's related to either the network or terminal services since unplugging the network cable or having no users log in seems to alleviate the problem (until users start logging in, and then it crashes between 1 and 4 times a day with a STOP 8E mostly.) We've tried various combinations of rolling back windows updates to before the problems occurred, installing all the windows updates w…
