time service mystery
by Guest Blake- 0 replies

I have the time service set on my PDC emulator to point to a router here on the network via http://support.microsoft.com/kb/816043. I can confirm this router is responding to NTP. I run w32tm /resync from a prompt and the clock sets itself correctly. About 3 seconds later, it changes to a time that is about 1.5 minutes off (slow, in this case). It is a consistent behavior. Performance counter: The average values always take the no activitysampling interval into account? Hi, I was checking my performance counters recorded on my server, and found something unexpected. say my sampling interval is 15 seconds, and the time I record the performance counter is 60 seconds. For example, Avg. Disk Bytes/Transfer the first interval (15 seconds): 200 the second interval (30 seconds): 0 the third interval (45 seconds) : 400 the fourth interval (60 seconds): 0 There are only two transfers during 60 seconds, and the average disk bytes/transfer should be calculated as: (200+400)/2 = 300 But the perfmon give…

srvany - interactive UI
by Guest [c.g]- 0 replies

Hello, I tried to use srvany.exe (from Windows Server 2003 Resource Kit Tools) to run an interactive application, but the user interface of the application did not appear. I can see that the srvany and my application appear in the task manager's processlist, but there is no UI. Is there any special requirement or something else to display the UI? The Resource Tools help was not helpful enough for me.

windows 2008 server
by Guest colleen- 1 reply

I have a windows 2008 server and it intermittently loses connection. I have 2 NIC cards in it. I have disabled one nic card. I have noticed that if I changed netbt to restart on all errors, it seems to help. Most of the time when this happens, the only way to get connectivity back to it is to restart the server. I have had to restart the server during the day and there are at least 25 users attached to it at the time. Any suggestions would be helpful.

Hey all, We are running Windows 2003 domain, Windows XP and some Vista clients and We are expirencing an authentication problem with clients who uses the SecureRemote client (NGX) from the Internet. The remote computers sometimes are domain members and some are in workgroup. When we change the password to a AD username and the remote user tries to use CIFS, SMTP or any other network service which requires Kerberos or NTLM authentication - it failes. The user recieves errors messages in the eventlog "No authentication protocol was available" and some other related authentication events. This is sometimes caused by invalid cached credentials. Because the…

Hello there, How can I check if there is a policy that removes the local admin privileges of the AD user that logs on to the AD domain? Some users might need local admin privileges for some applications to work properly. Also, can I enable some local computer policy on the user XP machine to override the above? I have an AD domain with multiple sites and OUs. Thanks, T

Hi there. A year ago or so we built this monster server for files with a RAID-5 array it has just about 3TB of disk in it total. I just noticed today in Disk Management that we actually only partitioned 2048GB of it (I guess the limit for a single filesystem?) and that there is almost a 900GB 'unallocated space' block sitting there unused. Windows will not allow me to create an additional partition in that 900GB space. Any advice? -Drew

Persistent Event ID 1030 in member server
by Guest lcrow- 0 replies
I have a W2K3 domain, single domain controller, two W2k3 member servers. The problem member server was upgraded from Windows 2000 Enterprise to W2K3 R2 Enterprise. Since then, several times a day Event 1030 is logged in the Application log. There are NO accompanying Event IDs of any other type. I have looked at all the relevant KB articles, and they either don't apply, or the suggested solutions were already in place. I can access the DC's Sysvol directory from the problem server, so I'm really mystified as to why this keeps happening. The 1030 errors match up perfectly to entries on the problem server's Security log: User Logoff: User Name: …

Windows Server 2003 DNS Server question
by Guest MrHanMan- 1 reply
We have a DNS Server running that is getting errors in the event log about being unable to connect to a domain controller. The thing is, we don't have a PDC, yet the server is set to join a domain. Does a DNS Server running Windows Server 2003 need to be a member of a domain, or can it be just in a workgroup? I checked the Configure Your Server log, and it was initially setup as a Domain Controller with Active Directory, but those were later removed along with the DNS server. The DNS server was immediately reinstalled, of course. Based on this information, I'm pretty sure it can be safely removed from the non-existent domain, but I would like to wait for co…

Hello, I have setup an FTP Site using IIS6.0 and can access the site using IE7. I have disabled 'Allow anonymous connections' and added a user to allow FTP access to files. When I login to the FTP server via IE7 with the dedicated username I can see my files but if I right-click a file and 'Save Target As' I receive an error message 'Login request was denied'. However, if I open the file as normal it will open it up in a web browser. I believe I have my permissions setup right. Can anyone offer advice? Thanks Wayne -- MCP

2008 Server x64 Print Server Driver Support?
by Guest Usenet- 0 replies
I"m struggling to find a simple guide to what is required in terms of printer drivers if I wanted to have a Windows 2008 Server x64 act as a file and print server. My understanding is that the driver installed on the server *has* to be a Vista compatible WHQL x64 driver i.e. I couldn't use a Windows 2003 Server x64 driver regardless of whether it's WHQL or not? It's one of those small things that could put a seriously big dent in any plans to pilot 2008 server as we all know how far behind many printer manufacturers are in updating their drivers. Our clients are primarily 32 bit XP and Vista with some x64 XP. I'm reading the Microsoft Windows 2008 …

I have a couple of Windows 2003 Standard SP2 servers (Dell PE OEM) which I want to upgrade to R2 for the DFS-R feature, but I'm having a hard time finding a Windows 2003 Standard R2 upgrade to buy. It's not listed here either: http://www.microsoft.com/windowsserver2003/howtobuy/licensing/pricing.mspx Is there not an upgrade option, and I just have to buy full versions? Thanks.

Allow a network adator to use a non-domain dhcp server
by Guest Gwylim Austin- 0 replies

Hi, I am trying to setup two servers for some testing, one to act as a DC the other an Internet gateway. The DC seems to be running fine with all necessary roles installed (including a DHCP server). However the Gateway is unable to connect it to its internet connection when it is logged onto the domain. When logged on with the local account it works fine. I read somewhere that this is to do with the fact that the server is not allowed to get its internet IP address due to the fact that it is from a non-domain DHCP server. Is this correct, and how do I go about altering this restriction for just this one adaptor. Many thanks in advance. Gwylim Aus…
