file share permissions not working
by Guest newguy- 1 reply

A co worker moved our dieing file server shares to a new file server. After that our users are reporting problems accessing the shares. They are saying they can only read the share but share and NTFS permission are set so they have full control over there folder. Below is the steps we think our co worked did to move the files. he is gone out of town so we can ask him for sure. I double check all share setting and they match the original file server. The other problem is we are running out of disk space on C: We have 200mb left. Not sure why he set it up that way. Would that affect the share access? This is our primary production files server so any help wo…

Increase HD Space

We have a Compaq DL360 running Windows Server 2003 and Exchange Server 2003 with a RAID 1 array. I have swapped out the 36GB hard drives with 172GB drives and allowed them to rebuild the array to the previous 36GB. Now I want to expand the size to use the full 172 or create a new partition leaving the current 36GB partition as a C drive. I have heard of using a tool like partition magic but I have never used this for servers. I would appreciate your comments and or suggestions.

Single Windows Server 2003 DC. SP2 - No other DC's ever in enviornment of any version. - No good or backup copies available. - The SYSVOL is available and has data in it. The GPO's show up and the scripts are there, it just gives this error in the event log. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Event ID 13568 I would like to run the process listed below to fix the problem, but since there are no other DC's in the network with a good copy of the SYSVOL, I am concerned this process will delete the existing copy during the repair process. Can someone …

Hiya, Not sure ths is the correct forum, but I'm going to give it a shot. Our company just installed 15 new copiers, most networked, all new drivers and names on the network. I was made responsible to make a script to add in to our login.bats (we run many different login scriots depending on where you at in the company and what you need to do) I have to ad this script to our login scripts to remove the "old" instances of the copiers these replaced. This has to be done across Citrix as well and PC workstations. The majority of our workstations run XP, but we do have a few 2000 machines. But that doesn't matter they all run the same scipts. I was going to t…

CPU Support

We are trying to figure out how MS Windows 2003 Server counts its CPUs. Since it only supports 4 CPUs to be used, if I have 2 CPUs with Dual Core and Hyperthreading - what is it actually using? Is it using the Dual Cores and ignoring the Hyperthreading, allowing me to use both Physical CPUs and both cores? or Is it using the First CPU with both Cores and their Hyperthreaded pieces as the 4 CPUs?

by Guest Deena- 5 replies

I would like to access my server files from my home computer. In the past I have had a Novell server and I simply entered the IP address in my home computer's browser and was connected to my server (login required). I would like to do the same with my Windows Server 2003 but I get the "server cannot be found" message when I try this. Is there some setting I am missing? My server is set up as a DNS server.

In WSUS under Options | Updates, I previously only had Approve for detection selected, I would then have to manually go to the Updates section and approve updates for install. I now would like WSUS to approve and install all current and future updates without my assistance. How does this need to be setup? Thx Brian

Can someone tell ifa nad how this can be done without physically going to each machine????

Migration from SBS 4.5
by Guest DianeA- 0 replies

I'm planning my migration from SBS4.5: (long overdue) 1. Anything worth keeping has been moved off of SBS (not using Exchange or SQL) basically ready to dump it. 2. Configured target box with NT4.0 BDC and ready to promote to PDC and run upgrade 3. Secondary BDC in the wings A few loose ends (questions): Q1. The target hardware will hold Windows 2003... Is there any reason I would want to go to Windows Server 2000 first and then to Windows 2003? Q2. My plan was to: - unplug the secondary BDC from network (after synch). - Unplug SBS from network - Promote BDC (Target machine) to PDC - At this point... Prior to upgrade... should I remove Target Machi…

I have two dhcp servers with split scopes. One win 2000 dhcp server working fine. I have installed a second dhcp server on a win2003 box in an AD 2000 forest. The new server is authorised but will not suppy IP addresses. Does anyone have any ideas why no IP addresses are being least. Thanks
