folder redirection don't work with "programma's"
by Guest rolfijn- 0 replies

Dear list, For a client i am working at improving the policies for their windows network (windows 2003, domain, 6 servers). One of the options we want to use is the possibility to redirect the start-menu in order to create centralised start-menu's. I have this basicly working: Created a share \\server\startmenu ans placed all necesery items in here and created a test-policy to enable the folder redirection for the start- menu. I have now the following problem: In the \\server\startmenu-share i created a folder "programma's" (dutch for programs). However, after logging in, the programs item in my start-menu shows: "leeg", meaning "empty". Whenever i rename …

Can't boot into clean Win2003+SP2 install!
by Guest Thany- 3 replies

Hi all, I've just freshly installed Windows Server 2003 x64 with SP2 slipstreamed. After installing and the box reboots, it doesn't boot into the graphical part of Windows. After the progress bar that goes from left to right a couple of times it hangs and the monitor goes into standby. In safe mode, it boots normally. I've tried enabling boot logging, but the logfile doesn't say what really goes wrong. I've installed southbridge drivers, ACPI drivers and CPU drivers, to no success. Enabling VGA mode also does provide a solution. So videodrivers aren't the problem, or else VGA mode should work. Driver for my RAID card work fine, otherwise safe mode w…

Advice needed: rendom and new drive and os..

Hi, We have an old w2003sp2 dc 'mydomain' which gets low on available disk space. We want to replace the disk in this server to a bigger one, starting from fresh with a new installed and updated w2003r2 os, get all the users over with their home folders and roaming profiles. (The latter folders are inaccessible for the administrator) and - finally rename the domain to mydomain.local (to avoid single label domain name dns problems). Should we set up a second w2003r2 as secondary dc and try to get home$ and profiles$ copied over to this box as the first step? Does it exist good white papers on how to get home foldes and profiles over to a second…

Hi We installed Windows 2003 Server a few months ago and we're experiencing issues with it. Recently we keep on having to reboot the server in order to log in from the 20 XP workstations connected to it. The event log shows 4 errors and 1 information, all with the same time stamp. and it repeats these events roughly every hour. 15:23:55 Source:DNS Event ID: 4007 The DNS server was unable to open zone _msdcs.rjs-network in the Acive Directory from the application directory partition ForestDnsZones.RJS- NETWORK. Windows 2003 Server R2 + SP2 => remote administration gone
by Guest Atlan- 0 replies

Hi Newsgroup, I just want to share a bad experience that we had with the SP2 on Windows 2003 Server Standard English R2. The installation was fine but afterwards the remote administration was gone. Which means that the remote clients accessing the server reacted like there is no terminal service active. We set the [x] in "Control panel > System > Remote Administration" several times. There we reassigned users that are allowed for remote access. We checked the firewall for problems with the remote port. Microsoft ISA Firewall reported successfull pass through of remote access. To verify that the ISA is not the problem we removed the firewall and swit…

Map drive - How do i keep it connected?
by Guest MSExchange2003Student- 2 replies

Hi all Some of my users use a program that use a mapped network drive from their pc (win xp pro) to the server (2003). For some reason they cannot connect sucessfully to the program after each time they log on to the pc for the first time e.g in the morning. They got the expert in and he said it is because their pc losses connectivity with the network drive. I also have some mapped drives and noticed that the forst time when i try and access the network drive it says "disconnected" but when i open it the status change to "conneted" again. So, it seems the issue the program is having is because the map drive is disconnected until someone open the map dri…

My Answer to 'Server 2003 - Best Software To Make Drive Image?'
by Guest Nobody Important- 1 reply

Thanks to all whom responded on my first post below. I tried DriveImage XML many times but the restore never worked. I was experimenting on a XP Pro machine with creating an image of my SATA boot drive to another SATA for storage and then back to a spare IDE drive I have. Yes, I did format and made the partition active and the other options. The machine would never boot. Then came Snapshot. Never would boot. No help on the website. I went through all the options one by one to make sure it was not a wrong setting. 'Image for Windows' worked fine. I tried it on several drives and XP never had a problem with anything. The price is not bad at all so I am …

I am trying to boot virtual guest from phisical disk (under VMWARE) and I receive STOP: 0x0000007B. I think I need SCSI drivers (propably LSI because only LSI is avaible when we use phisical disk). I need these drivers for Longhorn Server 64 bit (Maybe for vista or 2003 will be good - Do anybody know?). Do anybody know where can I download these drivers? Moreover how to install these drivers (I can boot this machine normally without virtualization and it is working OK)? Is any posibility to add this drivers to the system when I have access to the filesystem?

Unable to log in to domain from member server
by Guest fraz- 1 reply
I have a member server that recently has only shown local log in as an option (the drop down that would show the domain option is grayed out, showing only the local machine as an option). Since the domain admin is added to the local admin group, I can log into to machine with a domain account. I am not sure if this means of logging in is functionally different or not, but I am a bit alarmed that I am unable to use the dropdown any longer. Any ideas why this would happen? Thanks

Storage server
by Guest Patrick Tang- 3 replies

I need some experts opinion about purchasing a storage server. we recently decided to centralize all data (about 600GB, including user/SQL/exchange store). After lots of read and asking question, the answer is SAN. My question is it is better to have a storage server rather than a closed box (e.g. EMC SAN storage), I personally think a server is more flexible and scalable. Whereas the EMC box might be easier to setup. If i do want to run a server, what software (OS/application) is recommended? obviously, i need the storage device appear as a local device on the application server (just like SAN device). I hope this make sense to everyone.

hello, There is a folder in the server that couldn't be removed though the user is using the administrator account. The error message is "access denied", i noticed that the folder has only two tabs namely "general" and "customize"when i checked the properties. The other folder has " genral", "sharing," "security" and "customize". i tried taking ownership but it won't do. can somebody tell me how to remove this folder because it couldn't be accessed anyway even by the administrator account. Thank you
