by Guest AdamD.- 9 replies

Hello, Got a strange issue: The company where I work had no consistent naming scheme before I got here, so as part of a hardware audit I'm also renaming all of the PCs. There are a few machines who refuse to be renamed either locally, or remotely through netdom. When trying to do it remotely I get: "Unable to connect to the computer [computer-name] The error code is 51. Windows cannot find the network path. Verify that the network path is correct and the destination computer is not busy or turned off. If Windows still cannot find the network path, contact your network administrator. The command failed to complete successfully." If I tr…

Deleted files on server from workstation?
by Guest Wet Dog- 5 replies
Hi, I've always had the question (but kept forgetting to ask) of where and how to find a file that gets deleted on a server from a workstation. In an experiment I used a recovery program to search both machines but was unable to find the file. I could have missed it of course but what's the consensus on where the file exists and how to get at it? Thanks, Mike

Our office network is running Small Business Server 2003 and 10 PCs on network all running XP Pro Sp3. All PCs have remote desktop enabled but all users, who can all login successfully from home, are having a timeout after 20 minutes, exactly 20 minutes, no matter what application they are using, whether it is OWA or any other app. So, it appears to be a server setting, but what/where? I cant find this answer and all my troops are getting antsy... Rgds n tks for any help/asistance

client PPTP VPN access to Windows 2003 R2
by Guest kbgrunt- 3 replies
Just switched from Novell to Windows Server 2003 R2. Individual remote users (XP PRO SP2) use Microsofts PPTP VPN to access a SnapGear router/vpn/firewall. Once connected users can access Unix servers as if local, and used to run Novell login. Novell login script would map drives for user. How does a remote user access Windows server resources, drive mappings? PCs are set to boot up to Windows login for domain. Thanks.
