That's it.. just looking to see if anyone knows how to tell when a particular computer was joined to a domain. I have a computer that was joined to a domain probably close to 9 months ago, but now I need to verify exactly when. Oh, I need to do this on the server - I don't have access to the computer that joined the domain to verify this info. Thanks in advance!

What is a good application to monitor the CPU and DISK IO performance of a multiple CPU server? I want to see if our multi-threading applications are taking advantage of all the CPU's on the servers... We currently have mrtg for networks performance, somebody said we could use that. Is there anything better? Regards Chris

Is it safe to delete the update backup folders in the C:\Windows folder (i.e., $NtUninstallKB896727$). I understand that it will prohibit the uninstallation of the update but it seems unlikely that we'd do so. Thanks, Tom

I need to change the default program that executes when a user runs AVI files. Usually I just go into Folder Options and make my changes under the File Types tab. However, I'd like to avoid having to go to every machine to make this change. Can this change be implemented by means of Group Policy?

I've got an AD network with 2003 standard servers and XP workstations. I want to be able to send messages to workstations that are connected for things like server reboot warnings but I read a couple of warnings about having the messenger service running. Is this considered an acceptable risk by most admins and is there a better utility than 'net send'? Thanks Paul

id lock out
by Guest Mike- 1 reply

Is there a way to find out how an ID locked out? Example I just did a password change on App Pools under IIS, and about 100 batch files, on our servers, If I forgot something and the ID gets locked out due to a bad password, is there a way to find out what locked out the ID? Would that be under the security tab in the event viewer, or can I find that somewhere else on the server?

Lock out of XP Pro after formatting Windows 2003 Server
by Guest Trimelater- 2 replies
I have a server where the domain controller is called ARC. I formatted the server to increase the partition of the C: drive. After reinstalling the OS and using the same name called ARC again. I am not able to logon to XP Pro only if I changed the user named. I believed the current username is cache which enables the user to logon. If a different user logon, then the cache is lost and there is no means to logon. Well, my stupid thinking said, why don't remove the domain and join a work group and then rejoin the ARC domain. After reboot, I can't logon and I don't have the administrator password. I will attempt to logon as a "Guest" which I doubt I c…

HP 4345 MFP print failed after winodws update on Win 2003 Std R2
by Guest Koala78- 1 reply
I am having printing issue here on HP 4345 MFP after windows update was done. I think is related to .NET 3.0. The printer is shared out and list in AD. I roll back the driver version by using the original HP printer CD on the server. Do i need to updat the driver on each individual workstation or the printer driver will be updated on the workstation since the printer is attached to the server? The printing problem is when printing multiple page, the second page shows the PCL XL error. Current Config: OS: Windows 2003 Standard R2 Printer: HP 4345 MFP. Thanks in advance for any help :)

Understanding gpedit and gpo
by Guest icccapital- 1 reply

I have a more detailed question below but maybe if someone can answer this part I can solve my problem. What is the difference between the group policies when I right click and properties in the AD and then edit it and when I type gpedit.msc in run? gpedit.msc has policies locked to administrator and the other doesn't. Thanks. We are running windows server 2003 with terminal server enabled We have purchased software and are trying to get it running on our terminal server for remote use. It runs fine under the administrator login but we are having trouble with other user logins. The software has some settings that they say need to be set, one of which is…

move which of swap, temp, db log files, etc. to 2nd drive?
by Guest Les Caudle- 1 reply

I've got a RAID system with 2 mirrored volumes (of 2 drives each). I'm running Exchange 2003, SQL 2005, ASP.NET and ISA Server 2006 (with SQL 2000 MSDE). I'm curious what would be most useful to move the the 2nd drive? The swap file, TEMP folder, sql db log files, etc? Exchange will have under 10 users, and the ASP.NET webs shouldn't hit SQL Server too hard. Also, how to divide up the RAM memory? The SQL 2000 installed by ISA seems to like a lot of memory, and if it can't keep up, ISA will basically hang until it catches up. Any comments? -- Thanks in advance, Les Caudle
