I am using Win2K3 R2 SP2 with Symantec Backup Exec 12 with Continuous Protection that utilises VSS. Every once in a while, I get these errors in my event log along with a mass deletion of nearly all my snapshots on the volume - maybe a dozen or so: Event ID 10 Volume Shadow Copy Service information: The COM Server with CLSID {65ee1dba-8ff4-4a58-ac1c-3470ee2f376a} and name SW_PROV cannot be started. Most likely the CPU is under heavy load. [0x80080005] and also: Event ID 12292 Volume Shadow Copy Service error: Error creating the Shadow Copy Provider COM class with CLSID {65ee1dba-8ff4-4a58-ac1c-3470ee2f376a} [0x80080005]. and then finally: Sna…

Hi! In Windows 2008 I noticed that while in the logon screen the shutdown options include: - shutdown - restart - sleep - hibernate After I log in, the start menu offers only : - log off - switch user - restart - shutdown But no sleep or hibernate. Also I noticed that while logged in, after pressing ctrl-alt-del in theat menu sleep and hibernate are again available. Sleep and hibernate also both correctly work. They are just missing from the start menu. Any idea why is this ? How to put them back ? Regards, David

Pinging issue on a couple of windows 2003 servers
by Guest Sara L- 0 replies
Here is the scenario: I have three 3Com 4200G series switches. I have 8 servers. All servers are HP Proliant DL380, 360, or 320 servers. All servers are connected to the same 3COM switch. I have 2 APC Smart-UPS 5000 RM XL. These are plugged into the same 3COM switch. I'm having an issue in which some of the servers can ping both of these APC devices, some can only ping 1 of the APC devices, and some cannot ping either of them. All servers can ping each other. I can't figure out why some of the servers can ping the APC devices and some can't. It doesn't make any sense. The 3COM switches are not specifically configured for anything special. All…

re : error code 000000f4

I have been having the same blue screen/ error code. Started when moving large quantity of files from 2nd physical drive(E) to 2nd partition of primary drive(D). did a restore problem seemed to split. Happened again much later doing same thing + crashed all restore points. Problem now persists. I'm just a hack, but the only answer I found at Microsoft was to replace drive. CHKDSK /R & /I functions also cause crashes (on D: only). can transfer from D: but transfering to D: causes crashes opening pic files on D: crashes at various time intervals My gut answer is the NTFS file structure has problems with newly created bad sectors my current test- ha…

cannot get FTP 7 to work on Windows Server 2008 from another machi
by Guest Jonathan- 0 replies

I have installed FTP 7 on Windows Server 2008. I am able to connect to the FTP server from IE 7 on the machine, but I cannot see files. I cannot open the FTP in windows explorer. From other machine, I can also connect, but I cannot view directories, see files or upload files. I have set the FTP server to allow only anonymous connections, given the anonymous user the right to browse, read and write. I tried a number of items related to the firewall to resolve them. Finally, I disabled the firewall, but that did not resolve the issue either. First does anyone have any recommendations? Second, I have just spent four hours working on something that …

Problems with website access with a domain ending with .com
by Guest Ryan Laurie- 0 replies
I have a Windows 2003 Server that was setup before I got involved, at one point they were hosting their own website. The issue that I have now is that the domain is setup with a .com after the domain name instead of the .local, so when I try to access the website, which is now being hosted by godaddy, I can't get to it in the office. The site is setup on a web hosting server that has a dynamic address, but for now I paid for a static ip for 2 months because of other circumstances. The only way I have gotten it to work is that I had to make an A record in the servers DNS pointing http://www.mydomain.com to the static address. My issue is after the stati…

hello everyone, I need to get a good price on an external connector license for windows 2003/2008. Can anyone recommend a good reseller? I have seen on some posts that it should cost in the region of $2000 but here in England I don't seem to be able to get a quote for less than £1600 (over $3000)... Thank you in advance for your time. Renew Enterprise Root CA Certificate
by Guest Alan J. English- 0 replies
I need to extend the validity of my enterprise root certificate and my subordinate CA certificate server. How do I extend the valid date of the root? If I do this, will it make any certificates that have been issued invalid? My entire Exchange 2007 system is running with the self-signed certs issued by my subordinate CA server and if they expire, I think I'll have a HUGE issue on my hands. I'm running Win2k3 CA services on two servers. One is the Enterprise root CA and the other is the subordinate CA. The root expires next year, but I had better get this done the sooner the better. In a nutshell, how do I extend/renew the root certificate and will…

DHCP
by Guest Michael Yardley- 0 replies

Short for Dynamic Host Configuration Protocol, a protocol for assigning dynamic IP addresses to devices on a network. With dynamic addressing, a device can have a different IP address every time it connects to the network. In some systems, the device's IP address can even change while it is still connected. DHCP also supports a mix of static and dynamic IP addresses. Dynamic addressing simplifies network administration because the software keeps track of IP addresses rather than requiring an administrator to manage the task. This means that a new computer can be added to a network without the hassle of manually assigning it a unique IP address. Many ISPs use dyn…

Hi Currently I have Vista installed on my main computer, but I'm about to do a dualboot installation with Windows 2008 Server on a dedicated drive. Currently using Vista Ulitmate 32bit, and installing Windows 2008 server 64bit on dedicated drive. /A.

Does anyone know why the 'Allow Basic authentication (password is sent in cleartext)' checkbox on the Proxy Server Tab of the Update Source and Proxy Server settings in Options does not remain checked. This is only happening on my newer Server 2k3 R2 Enterprise X64 edition SP2 Server. I have two WSUS servers one for two seperate AD Forests and the other Server is Running Server 2k3 R2 SP2 Standard 32 bit. My syncs fail on the new one until I recheck that box and immediately do another sync.

Problem on schedule.
by Guest Mr. X.- 1 reply

Hello. I am using windows schedules. For some reasons one of the schedule stopped running. I was since there was a fix of summer-time (from 12:30am to 1:30am) at the same minute the schedule runs (it runs at each minute). The schedule stopped running and I think it's due the above problem. Does the schedule always write on queue or something simmiliar to queue : what is the next time running ? Is that true ? If it is done so, then when there is a problem, the schedule stops running forever, because there is no schedule to write "what is the next time running". Is there any way to overcome the problem ?

Automating DCOM permissions
by Guest Wierdbeard65- 0 replies

Hi, I am trying to automate the building od student machines for the classroom using GHOST. So far, everything is working well, however I need to set the DCOM security settings on each machine individually. I have a batch file that is running to do various things after the ghost build, so I need to know how to add this in to the mix. I have a couple of components that I need to add a user in to the "Launch and Activation Permissions" on the "Security" tab as well as altering the username / password on the "Identity" tab. How do I do this from a batch file / command line? Many thanks, Paul

Folder inhertiance from profile created folders.
by Guest rborias- 0 replies

Is their any way to turn off folder inheritace completly. What I am getting is we have a cluster server which stores Users profile directories in one share and another share Resource data. Now when we create a new user and put in a drive letter and path it creates a user folder in that user profile directory. Now the Root folder "users" has inheritace turned off, but when a new user folder gets created inheritace is turned on for that folder. The root still has it off but anything new get inheritance. Any way to have thus turned off or am I missing something to stop this. The CIO sees this as a security risk if any change is made to the root folder…

SMTP server intermittent problem
by Guest WAFDOF- 0 replies

I have an unusual issue that I believe it related to a setting in the IIS SMTP Virtual Server Settings. I have an intermittent problem where an email sent by a small asp.net application would fail to send the exception was "Error receiving data from socket." The VB error message generated related to "The transport failed to connect to the server. " I spent a bit of time troubleshooting the asp code only to have the same results...sometimes the emails would process and sometimes they would not.....no variable changed at all. In an attemtp to find a pattern to the problem and rule out asp.net code I wrote a very small windows application that sends …
