Map and rename network drive ?
by Guest chrbar- 0 replies

Hi, I've used a script in the past, but I don't remember it! It was a logon script which maps network drives (to assign a choosen letter) and renames network drives (to assign a choosen name instead of the default name): Mapped drive with default name = temp$ on 'ghost1' (T:\) Mapped drive renamed = Temporary Files (T:\) Do you know the script lines to do that? Thanks, Chris

It is running some software called Neverfail which basically replicated this server to another one thus providing fault tollarance. We have received an error in the system log which i have never seen before and searching the internet hasn't brought up anything. Source: HookRegistryDriver Event ID: 10 Computer: Local Description: ObQueryNameString failed with status - - 1073741444 It has never occured before except for this once last night. Is this something I should be worried about?

Policy for Windows Media Player

Windows 2003 R2 Std SP2 Active Directory Windows XP Pro SP2, Media Player 9 Don't know if this is the right place to ask. If I'm in the wrong group, please let me know which group is more appropriate. I'd like to prevent Windows Media Player 9 (and later versions) from accessing the internet so users can't use the bandwidth to listen to internet radios, watch movie previews etc. Removing default gateway isn't an option because users must still be able to access the internet. Does anyone know how to accomplish this? Use GPO? Thanks much.

by Guest Steven H.- 0 replies

Hi, I'm having some difficulty connecting a Mac running OS X 10.5.2 to my Windows Server 2003's network share, can someone give me some guidance on this? I currently have a file server in my office that's running Windows Server 2003 and we've just added 2 new Mac Pro for our graphic designer, when I try to connect to a shared volume on my file server from the Mac, I got an error message saying username and password is incorrect, but if I use the domain admin's user name and password it works fine, is there a solution to this? All the other workstation in our domain running Windows XP have no problem accessing file share using their own credential. …

I have a login script running so when users login the drives are mapped. In the last week or so suddenly instead of the four regular mapped drives users will have extra random drive letter assignments. Any ideas what might be happening? Here is the login script: net use h: /delete net use j: /delete net use f: /delete net use u: /delete net use h: \\pos-file\user\%username% /persistent:YES net use j: \\pos-file\user /persistent:YES net use f: \\pos-file\files /persistent:YES net use u: \\pos-file\alumni /persistent:YES So when a user goes into My Computer they will see: f:\ = \\pos-file\files h:\ = \\pos-file\kim j:\ = \\pos-file\user u:\ = \\p…

Windows 2008 - DHCP - New Production Environment
by Guest 2nd Lt Cat- 0 replies

Hi All I will be writing in here to pass on some of my experiences with Windows 2008 RTM, MS have sponsored a project for us where a largish organisation will be deploying around 40 W2K8 servers, primarily File, Print and Network Services. I have to admit so far the migration has been going well, until DHCP, this has caused no end of grief. We are over it now, but this is important to perhaps save other people time. 1. Do not even bother to import an export from W2K3 database, they do not import correctly killing the capability to issues addresses, eventually we are now just re-creating new scopes. We experienced a few seperate issues importing the DBs a…

how to stop shadow copy recursive mount points following
by Guest forum.ben.yosef.mail@googlemail.com- 0 replies

Hi, using server 2008 (32/64 version) i noticed mount points are recursive followed especially in this case (see steps 1-2), has anyone knows how it can be stopped? step 1 ) mounting shadow copy of volume X on volume X step 2) create additional shadow copy of the same volume X and mount it again on volume x(different location) as result the second mounted shadow copy(step 2) contains the first mount point of the previous shadow(step 1) 1. in server 2003 the behavior was different, mounted shadows where not followed 2. now the first mount point as two paths, the original and inside the second mounted shadow copy 3. after few steps a…

Win2K3: Insufficient system resource exist
by Guest ilovesoup- 0 replies

...to complete requested serivece. Dear Sir, I encountered this issue these days. My customer reported that their server met this situation after running our system for about 1 month. At that time, even taskman or notepad cannot open. Because we didn't open perf monitor at the beginning, it is hard for me to analyze the issue. Below is my 1st question: This error message indicate handle leak or memory leak? Another question is: I gathered some data by Process Explorer. I found that the sum of all private bytes of processes doesn't equal to the total comit charge. The total private bytes are only about 300MB but commit charge is as high as 1.3GB... I'…

TCPIP NDISWAN 4191 Event Error
by Guest Harry Bates- 0 replies

Server 2003 Enterprise Event Type: Error Event Source: Tcpip Event Category: None Event ID: 4191 Date: 1/9/2008 Time: 9:22:55 AM User: N/A Computer: MTNGT500 Description: IP could not open the registry key for adapter TCPIP\Parameters\Adapters\NDISWANIP. Interfaces on this adapter will not be initialized. Obviously, a lot of you have seen this error in the past. As always with Win2000, we would uninstall TCP/IP and re-install it to fix the problem (KB284955). Also, obvious is that M$ has made the IP stack a core component from Windows XP on to current OSes. A few years ago I ran into this problem and we were not able to fix the error in 2003 …

Hi, Has anyone managed to get remote desktop on 2008 to actually look reasonable? It's like Vista set to Windows Classic. Almost everything just looks wrong. Server Manager is fine as are other things in MMC, but Windows Explorer, Task Scheduler, the Start Menu; they're all over the place. Or have I just got something setup wrong? Gary

Puzzled Over CALs
by Guest TheScullster- 0 replies

Hi all Can anyone clarify the CAL situation for me please? I have one or two users who have both laptop and desktop machines. The person/client is the same, but they can logon to Windows services and Exchange via either device. Technically is this one CAL or two for this type of user? Do administration accounts on the servers themselves class as CAL for Exchange? If either of these cases are considered CALs then I believe we may be approaching capacity. If I add one too many user to AD or one too many Exchange account, will a prompt occur to alert me? Windows Server2003 and Exchange Server2003 with Outlook2003 and 2007 clients. TIA Ph…

Interoperability between SFU 3.5 and R2
by Guest Jinbo- 0 replies

Hi, I know it is a weird request. But it has been giving me major headaches... My goal is to provide NFS service to my Linux clients from our main file sharing server, which is running 2003 R1 with SFU 3.5 installed. This main file server is also a domain controller. I have another domain controller running Windows R2. Presently, I have all my Linux clients using Active Directory LDAP Authentication provided by this R2 DC. I have no NIS service running anywhere. My question is, in this environment, how do I make the main file server (SFU 3.5 on R1) provide NFS service to our Linux client? Without having to maintain a manual mapping list? I tried…

I am receiving the popup above on a Windows 2003 server SP2 installed. as soon as OK is pressed it terminates IIS Admin Service, Exchange Routing Engine service and SMTP service. Invalid Color Profile
by Guest garthvader79- 0 replies

I have a windows 2003 server standard edition SP2 print server that is giving error messages when you try to update print drivers. This seems to occur on many models and it is not related to printer driver version; the same drivers work on another identical server. Here is what happens: If you try to update or install a newer printer driver (Printers..Server Properties...Drivers tab OR Update Driver on the printer), I can walk through the entire process until the last step. When you hit Finish, it begins to copy the newer files to the server. It then errors, saying "specified color profile is invalid". It then returns you to the Finish screen. You must can…

Terminal service on Windows Server 2008 (Longhorn)
by Guest zehra.mb@gmail.com- 0 replies
Hello, I am developing application on Longhorn. For that i need to check whether Terminal service is enabled or not. In Windows 2003 server there is a registry key HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Terminal Server \TSEnabled which is having value 1. Using this registry i am able to check Terminal services' status. But for Windows Server 2008 there is no such key. So is there any other way to know the terminal services' status. (Whether it is enabled or not) Any suggestion will be appriciated. Thank you in advance

PoolMon: MmCm tag - High nonpaged memory pool usage
by Guest martin.necas@gmail.com- 0 replies

Dear all, I am troubleshooting an server with high nonpaged memory pool usage. It is an HP Proliant DL380 G5 server with 4 GB of physical RAM. I am running the Microsoft Exchange Server 2003, therefore I am have to run under /3GB boot.ini switch. So I am limited do ~125 MB of nonpaged memory pool maximum. I am running at about 105 MB of used nonpaged memory pool, I worry about the stability. When I start the PoolMon, it shows that 40 MB of nonpaged pool is using the MmCm tag, which belongs to the nt!mm driver and "Calls made to MmAllocateContiguousMemory". This is the biggest usage, all others are about 1-2 MB. How can I determine, which driver(s) is allocat…

Mystery slow downs.
by Guest kalukaley- 0 replies

Several times a day our users ( not always the same users, and not always the same servers) will experience what they think is Microsoft Word hanging. We use automation to auto-generate MS Word documents. What we later found out was that if you left the process alone, it would complete after 15 - 20 minutes. This process normally takes about 30 seconds to run!!! We've noticed that when this is occurring, Internet Explorer also crawls to a halt. The other apps are still responding normally as far as I've been able to determine. Our users are using WYSE terminals to Log into a Citrix Environment (Presentation Server 4.0). This is all running on …

I'm not sure if this a server or an application issue.... here is the thing, I'm installing a aspx website on a W 2003 standard SP2, and for some reason, the session of the website is expiring automatically, is there any configuration that we can modify to fix this... or this is entirely a development problem... is there something where I can check this out? RAS connection via MS VPN - change MAC Address
by Guest akf-admin- 0 replies
Dear All, I have a little problem. We decided to use the MS VPN Client to connect our employees to our network, because it's "build in" and the computer will be full managed logged to the network while using a RAS connection. Our Structure is a 3rd Party Firewall Appliance, MS RAS, RADIUS and Certificate Server. Also we use MS SMS 2003 to deploy software updates. Problem: The MS VPN Client cames always with the same MAC Address, to connect to the RAS-Server. In this case it is impossible to set an ip-address reservation within the DHCP server. So the VPN Client changes it's IP with each new connection. Our SMS 2003 Server will recognize each new…

Non-MS IM solution in AD environment w/Server 2003
by Guest Isaac Grover- 0 replies

Good morning from Wisconsin, I am looking to implement simple instant messaging (contact list and messaging required, file transfer optional) in an Active Directory environment with Windows Server 2003 at the core and 15 Windows XP Pro clients at the edge. As I know that sometimes non-MS solutions are overall better, I have been looking at two options: LanTalk.NET from Cezeo (http:// http://www.cezeo.com/) and LanToucher Messenger from VitalSoundLab (http:// http://www.vitalsoundlab.com/). So, I am open to opinions of the two products above, and also exploring other available options. Let me know what you have successfully used in your environments. T…
