SMTP server intermittent problem
by Guest WAFDOF- 0 replies

I have an unusual issue that I believe it related to a setting in the IIS SMTP Virtual Server Settings. I have an intermittent problem where an email sent by a small asp.net application would fail to send the exception was "Error receiving data from socket." The VB error message generated related to "The transport failed to connect to the server. " I spent a bit of time troubleshooting the asp code only to have the same results...sometimes the emails would process and sometimes they would not.....no variable changed at all. In an attemtp to find a pattern to the problem and rule out asp.net code I wrote a very small windows application that sends …

cannot switch Control Panel to Classic view
by Guest Dave- 0 replies

Hi, For some reason in a Citrix Session on a Windows 2003 server I cannot switch Control Panel to Classic View. Clicking on the 'Switch to Classic View' link does not do anything. I have trawled through Group Policy to see if this is somehow turned off somewhere but cannot find anything. I need to get to the Mail icon as I have a user with an Outlook problem and I suspect his mail profile. Any ideas of either how to get to the mail icon or how to switch to classic view? thanks Dave

Problems with website access with a domain ending with .com
by Guest Ryan Laurie- 0 replies
I have a Windows 2003 Server that was setup before I got involved, at one point they were hosting their own website. The issue that I have now is that the domain is setup with a .com after the domain name instead of the .local, so when I try to access the website, which is now being hosted by godaddy, I can't get to it in the office. The site is setup on a web hosting server that has a dynamic address, but for now I paid for a static ip for 2 months because of other circumstances. The only way I have gotten it to work is that I had to make an A record in the servers DNS pointing http://www.mydomain.com to the static address. My issue is after the stati…

Hello, I am having a problems copying large files (500M backup file) from one server to another, I get the below messages. I also tried this test with large folders (+500M), sometimes they work and sometimes fail. If I ZIP the backup file it copies OK. Very strange. Error message on screen: "Network name no longer available" The following message appears in the Event Viewer: "Event ID: 3019 Description: The redirector failed to determine the connection type" The servers in question are Windows Server 2003 Std with SP2 and all patches through December 2007. Any help you can give would be appreciated. Thanks Angelo

by Guest Patrick- 0 replies

Hello all, I'm running server2k3 x64 + exchange2007 sp1 on a server, i configured the VSS on a volume, it ran daily no problem. My problem is the VSS and MS VSS Provider Services kept stopping by itself everyday, it doesn't failed or error whatsoever but only gives information in the event log said these services entered the stopped state. I can manually start the services again, but it's very annoying. Does anyone have idea about this?

Inplace server 2003 upgrade on 2 domain controllers
by Guest Eddie- 0 replies

Hello, I am planning to upgrade 2 DC's running 2000 standard to 2003 standard r2. These servers are the PDC and BDC of the domain and the only servers still running windows 2000 left in the domain. I've been running in mixed mode for a couple of years and have upgraded all other servers except for the 2 DC's. What would be the best approach to upgrade these servers? Also, these servers are running SQL 2000 will this upgrade impact SQL in anyway? Thanks, Eddie

30 seconds to change the attributes of a file
by Guest Wowbagger- 0 replies

Server 2003: In a directory completely devoid of all files except for the hidden thumbs.db (ranging in size from 8Mb to 40Mb), while working on the local machine the command attrib -s -h *.db Takes 20-30 seconds to execute. Why would this be taking so long? No errors in the event log directly related to this, and the various disk health scans I have run always report no errors.

Hi guys, For a short period we had an ftp service with anonymous write permissions enabled. during that time the notorious flashfxp and sft@loader messed around, one of which created a folder named " " (char 0x20). They access it using CWD /+/ and upload pirated software apparently. I'd like to delete the folder without reformatting the volume. Any suggestions? A scripted solution or a tool out there?

Problems with FTP behind Windows 2003 NAT
by Guest Jim in Arizona- 0 replies

We have a Win2003 server as our proxy running NAT. When attempting to FTP into any ftp server using a command prompt (DOS FTP), it will connect but any commands beyond that will just hang, like 'ls' or 'dir'. I looked around for a solution and found that if you issue this command on the NAT box that it should fix the problem: netsh routing ip nat add ftp I then restarted the RRAS service. I found that using windows explorer for FTP works fine, but when using the command line FTP, it still hangs in the same way: C:\WINDOWS>ftp ftp.microsoft.com Connected to ftp.microsoft.com. 220 Microsoft FTP Service User (ftp.microsoft.com:(none)): anonymous 331 A…

cygwin problems on 2003 Enterprise, impersonating fails.
by Guest qa4ever- 0 replies

Hi On Win2003 SP2 Enterprise _only_ we have seen an odd thing happening when logging on using telnet. telnet into machine work but inside telnet prompt "switching to user andy failed" cygwin inetd service, who runs the telnet service, is running as "Local System" account and interact with desktop. Identical to other 2k3 Standard Edition Computers , this works (running cygwin on LocalSystem account and login successfully) . In what respect is Windows Enterprise Edition different than Standard Edition in these service and security areas? (I think basically the cygwin inetd NT service tries to impersonate the other user but fails, but why ? ) We have …

Schedule system state backups on W2K8?
by Guest Augusto Alvarez- 0 replies

Hello everyone, (re-posting this question) Is there anyway to schedule the system state backups on a Windows Server 2008? I found out that the only way to accomplish that backup is using the WBADMIN cmd tool and there's no graphic option. I cannot use a .bat file with the task scheduler because the command line requires for confirmation when it runs. Anyone with a solution for this??? Prescan.exe error upgrading to WSS V3
by Guest gocat2005- 0 replies

Hello I am running Prescan.exe before I upgrade to WSS V3. Prescan detects 2 sites which cannot be scanned because "they cannot be accessed using the SharePoint Products and Technologies object model". These 2 sites are old deleted sites eg: http://wssserver/localoffice1/person-a http://wssserver/localoffice2/person-b I ran stsadm databaserepair and also detached and re-attached the Content database. I then ran the SQL Query (KB 937291) which reveals the two deleted sites. How do I get rid of them? Can I delete them from the database? I have posted this to the Technet public forum with no response and it is now getting urgent so your advice wo…

Indexing service - is it used by Windows?
by Guest Rob Nicholson- 0 replies
Is the indexing service used internally by Windows 2003 Server? I've just set-up a new Windows 2003 Server and the System catalogue contains c:\ which means it indexes the entire C: drive. Why does it do this, can this be deleted and does it cause problems with using the web catalogue? When you search a catalogue using the webbot, does it just search the web catalogue? Thanks, Rob.

Hi, I got basic knowledge about Terminal Service 2008. Now, I would like to implement TS Gateway and please let me know how to do it. My network environmet is behind ISA 2006 where is allowed few ports from external network (VPN, Outlook Anywhere, OWA,...). I'm confused about certificate (which is my worst Windows part) - is is neccessery to use certificate to publish local W2008 server as TS Gateway? Thanks in advance.
