Remove "orphaned" domains from Log On To box?
by Guest doug.masters@gmail.com- 9 replies

Last Friday, my company disconnected our WAN from our former owner. We both shared the same domain, we seized all FSMO roles to your DC's after being disconnected. That seemed to go well, the event logs on my DC's are pretty clean and no users are reporting any problems. The former owner had several other domains that would show up in the Log On To drop down box. We never logged into those, but since we're disconnected I would like to remove those and only offer the valid domains. My only thought on what to check was the Domains & Trusts, those domains do not exist there. Thanks in advance for pointing me in the direction I need to go.

Mighty Gurus, I have two win2003 servers. One hosts a web browser that gets PDF files from a reporting server. Previously the reporting server was W2k and the service which created the PDF ran under a user/pass that was identical to one on the W2k3 web server. After upgrading the reporting server to W2k3, I find that this 'trick' no longer works. (You use the same trick in connecting an SQL server to a web server on different machines, if they are both W2k or less.) This is either a security enhancement or a configuration setting. Anyone know of a work-around? Thanks Harry

Shares are unshared w. SP2
by Guest kramer31- 1 reply

Hi all. First let me say that I am not a Windows Server expert rather I have admin privileges because the real admin is too busy and overworked. Recently, one of our boxes running Server 2003 asked to install SP2. I allowed it (figuring that it is more secure). Recently, I tried to map one of the shares, but got an error. So I logged in to the box and found that none of the shares were shared anymore. I guess it is possible that someone else logged into the box and unshared them, but I doubt it. Has anyone ever heard of SP2 unsharing shares? Also, when I looked at the properties of the formerly shared folders, the Sharing tab was missing! Has anyone h…

Unable to logoff
by Guest edtech- 1 reply

I'm hoping someone has some ideas because I haven't run into this before. I have a Windows Server 2003 Enterprise SP2 server. When users or administrators try to logoff nothing happens. You can click on logoff and the confirmation prompt pops up but when you click OK you are returned to the desktop. I checked the Event Log and the following entry is entered.. EventID: 1073, Source: USER32 "The attempt by user XXX to restart/shutdown computer XXX failed." I have tried logging off from the command line with no success. The only way to logoff has been to open Task Manager, go to the Users tab, highlight the logged in user and click logoff. This seems to on…

by Guest NetTech- 0 replies

Windows Server 2003 is experiencing slugish performance and at times bringing it to a halt. After a reboot the server appears to run fine. This has happened several times, and after reviewing the Event Logs, I found that there are hundreds of entries for Windows Agent trying to restart. I've searched the web for an explanation, but since Error 7034 is a generic error, I have not found any info to help with my troubleshooting. Please see the exact error listed belwo Event Type: Error Event Source: Service Control Manager Event Category: None Event ID: 7034 Date: 7/12/2007 Time: 7:59:43 AM User: N/A Computer: SERVER01 Description: The Windows …

First of all Hi to everyone out there those who are willing to help and then Hi to all those who are reading this :) Well ..I have 3 computers at my home, I've installed Windows 2003 Server on the first one and the rest two have Windows 2000 PRO. I downloaded the Group Policy Common Scenarios from Microsoft web site.. I implemented the taskStation for a group of users who log-in their account in Windows 2000, I modified that policy a bit to show an HTML Page as the Desktop background. BUT unfortunately it didn't show up. What I did was I shared a folder on the Server and added the path "\ \homeserver\wallpaper.html", I tried it with a JPEG image it worked fi…

by Guest Rowan Prior- 0 replies

Good day, I know that every environment is different but I am hoping someone here can provide some information. I have a need to move one of my Windows 2003 servers into an FDA regulated environment, and I need to create an Installation Qualification (I Q) for the hardware, operating system (Windows 2003 Std R2) and Citrix. Does anyone have documents that can assist me with this? Does Microsoft have anything that is in the public domain and can be used as a guideline? Thanks

Upgrading from 2003 standard to R2 - need DFS
by Guest Fox1977- 2 replies
Hi there, Can anyone help me with this problem. I have three Windows 2003 sp1 servers (2 x enterprise and 1 x standard) and I want to upgrade them to R2 as I want to be able to use DFS across them. I have contacted the software company we use and asked them how much it is for the upgrade to R2. As far as I am aware R2 comes on the second cd of the pack and I was thinking I could just run this on the servers and upgrade them. The software company said that there isn't an upgrade available. Anyone else done a similar thing? Is there an upgrade available to do this? Anyone any tips on how I can get DFS on these old servers? Thanks in advance

IIS / SMTP / Properties / Drop Directory Quota
by Guest Pizza Good- 0 replies

Hi, We had a problem with emails not being sent and we narrowed it down to the setting located in: IIS / SMTP / Properties / Enable Drop Directory Quota And that if enabled the Drop directory can only be 10 x max message size, we increased the max message size and all is well. What I cannot find is any info if we DISABLE the "Drop Directory Quota" option. What happens if we do that...are their any repercussions? Thanks.

Hi all, I have read about event log size limits in Windows Server 2003. According to Microsoft's recommendation the max size of security log should not be set above 200-250 MB. Is it true in 64-bit edition of Windows 2003? Are there any recommended limit?

Migrating Printers from 2000 Server
by Guest Adrian- 2 replies

All, Im trying to create a seamless printer migration from a Windows 2000 Server to a Windows 2003 64 bit Storage server. First off is this possible? to the extent that users wont notice anything or have to make any changes? Ive been trying to use the Print Migration tool 3.1 but it doesnt seem to work on the 2000 Server. I have also added the windows 2000 server in under Print Management in the 2003 server in the "hope" that I could switch the printers that way but no luck :/ (Wouldn't that be a very handy though if you could!!) Has anyone else tried successfully to migrate printers without the users knowing? Thanks

Hi, I have Win2k3 server operating system with two partitions. I'am planing to make backup of all data which my server contains - there is about 25GB files. My plan is to use MS Backup tool, which stores all data in one *.bkf file. I suppose that tool will make *.bkf file large about 17-20 GB. Is that possible? What is the maximum size of *.bkf file? Thanks

I usually split up services as much as possible but now the servers are getting more powerfull than strictly necessary for the job to do so I was thinking of using the file server as web server also, more specific as a sharepoint services server is this a smart thing to do or not? the service is strictly for LAN only so not exposed to the big bad internet it is a quad core Xeon with 4GB ram and windows 2003 standard 64 bit OS this for about 150 users in total thnx

Overlapping DFS with DFRS problem
by Guest Anders- 0 replies
Hello, previously I had set up a FRS replication but after upgrading the servers to Win 2003 R2 I deleted the previous FRS namespace and targets in order to create a new DFRS replication scheme from scratch. The problem is that I cannot enable the DFRS replication as I end up with the following suggestion: "Fix this problem by not overlapping this replicated folder with an FRS replica set. That is, do not replicate the same local path using DFS Replication and FRS." In other words the previous FRS replication stills seems to be in the system but I did delete it from the DFS console so how am I supposed to really get rid of the remaning FRS settings?
