Windows Home Server Connector Client Crash
by Guest Courtney- 0 replies

Please forgive the posting here - there seems not to be a Windows Home Server group. Could someone help me with some ideas of what to check? I'm running Windows Home Server (OEM edition) an on older system that was used for all phases of the beta testing with no problem. The OEM version was installed and all connector software updated on 5 systems - all okay for a month. Yesterday there was a power outage and although the server is on a UPS it reported one of 3 external drives was bad. That was cleared but the server constantly reported that the backup service was not running so I wiped the drives and re-installed the home server software including …

Mainframe to 2003 box via telnet
by Guest AR10T- 0 replies

First I am NOT the expert on servers, I work with our IBM mainframe. We are executing a job on the mainframe that telnets to the 2003 box and starts an executable program on the 2003 box. The program opens a GUI window and runs independent from the mainframe which would then close the telnet session. No data is passed back to the mainframe. Below is the code we use once the telnet session is open and connected to the 2003 box: V2vwatch.exe autostart noshow What we have found is that v2vwatch.exe will show up in Task Manager/Processes list but not in the Task Manager/Applications list. The v2vwatch program does not open up on the screen when starte…

OEM to Volume License issue
by Guest Jeff- 0 replies

I have a copy of Windows 2003 OEM on a Dell server. I need to move it to another server without rebuilding. I understand the licensing issue with this, however I have a copy ofvolume license that I just purchased. The problem is when I image the server it wants me to reactivate the license, it fails when I do. How do I change the license type of the OEM to make it VL? I have heard the idea of "upgrading" but I think I am going to have an issue because my media is older than what is on the server. I am almost certain it is going to come back with a complaint on that. Any help is appreiciated. PS I ant all to understand, I am legal, I purchase the VL…

asp not working
by Guest runner7@fastmail.fm- 0 replies

On a Windows Server 2003 system I am working on, asp is shown allowed in the iis snap-in. When you put an asp file in the webroot directory with the html content, however, you can view the html pages in IE but the asp page will not show up. There is some redirection going on in the system, but I am not sure how it works. Could iis be redirecting pages according to their extension rather than their directory location? Is there something else I need to do to make asp work right? Any insight as to what may be our problem would be greatly appreciated.

Not sure when this started, but I'm seeing this on a couple servers, been at least a week. "MSDEWriter" has reported an error 0x800423f0. Contacted MS, they are suppose to email be a hot fix... Got it and it reports that the SP is newer than the hot fix... User Home folder and Profile folder creation
by Guest Paul Mathieu- 0 replies

Just wondering if anyone could point me to a resource/document that explains the industry best practices for creating user folders in 2003 server? Essentially I'm looking to automate as much of the process as possible, as right now I’m adding and configuring the permissions on the home and Profile folders manually – and this needs to change. Perhaps there's a Microsoft Document that highlights their recommended model from the ground up? Can't say I've come across it yet though. T.I.A. Paul

Files are not deleted handle held by system process
by Guest Jocky Mac- 0 replies

We have deplaoyed our application on may servers but on only one we are seeing a strange problem. The application is written in C and uses the remove function to delete a file. The file appears to be "almost" deleted - we cannot open it, copy it or view security attributes etc but a di in the folder shows it is still there. We used process explorer to look at it and it reports that the file has on open handle from the system process. If I right click in process explorer and select "close handle" the file disappears. Any idea why the file is not removed?

Group Policy and Windows Vista
by Guest jsimmons- 0 replies

Good afternoon all, The organization I work for is currently in process of starting a wider roll-out of Windows Vista to the entire company. I'm running into a question with power management options through group policy - I've got just about everything set, however I can't find anything on setting the Power Savings Mode for Searching and Indexing. Any kind of Internet search directs me to the policy options for search settings, none of which have anything to do with power management. Any ideas or suggestions? Thanks! Joe

I have IE Enhanced Security Configuration disabled on a particular server. I have also added a particular URL to the Trusted Sites in Internet Options Security. However, I get a 404 error when I try to access the site from any workstation or the server. I can reach Yahoo from within the LAN and the particular URL externally from the LAN, but not internally. Any help or guidance in regards to this issue would be deeply appreciated. Thank you. Al

Everyone Group
by Guest SuperPlay- 0 replies

Hi Folks Query relating to the "everyone group (Pre Windows 20000)." We have a Windows 2003 domain which was upgraded from Windows NT 4.0. I am aware under windows 2003 that the membership of the everyone was changed so that it no longer contains the token for anonymous. It seems that newly created users are no longer automatically added to the everyone group but they are added to the "domain users" group. However the "everyone" group is still the default group set on permissiosn tabs (Shares ETC) Question: So is it best practice to 1) Manally add all individual domain users to the "Everyone Group" 2) Clear all users from the "Everyone G…

Missing Trash Icon
by Guest Todd Lane- 0 replies
Ok, it is probably a basic thing I'm missing, but I'm tired of looking for it. I can not find my Trash Icon anywhere on my Windows 2000 Server. I'm used to being able to customize the desktop on XP to add/ remove the icon from the desktop, but that functionality is either gone or in a different place on Server 2000. Where can I go to add the icon for the trash can back to my desktop? I am logged in as adminstrator currently, so any help pointing in the right direction would be appreciated. Todd

Server will not boot after Driver Verifier enabled
by Guest David V- 0 replies
We were testing our internal software on a new server due to go live within a few weeks, when the server failed with a BSOD. A search of the errors online indicated probable driver problems, so I ran verifier.exe, as per KB article 244617. I selected "verify all drivers", which required a reboot. Now the server is stuck in an endless loop of detecting the memory and RAID controllers, prompting for a boot from a backup ROM or PXE, and then shutting down and starting over again. What is going on? Has anybody experienced problems like this with verifier? How do you get around it? Thanks in advance for any help.

Windows Server 2003 fresh install with Dell Install CD
by Guest Terry Caleb- 0 replies

I installed a new server with the Dell installation CD, and used my Windows Server 2003 standard CD, and when it came to system drive size, I told it to be a 20GB NTFS partition. After the install, the server comes up, and My Computer shows only a 5 GB partition, which is almost full after installing SP2, and if you use Disk Manager, it shows up there as the 20GB as I told it to. What do I need to do for the OS to see the rest of the space? I already converted the disk to dynamic.

I am running the MAP Solution Accelerator to baseline a number of Server 2003 machines in terms of running them as VM's using Hyper-V on Server 2008. There is a rather intrusive status window having a cancel button showing the status. It is not minimizable. It appears that if I hit the cancel button, the assessment and logging stops altogether. Is that true? Since I plan on running this assessment for several weeks, isn't there a way to run this as a service so it persists between logon/logoff and server reboot cycles?

Hello, a Firbechannel-LUN is connected and reconnected to Windows 2003 Server via LUN-Security. On one host, the disk is recongnized immediately with the same drive-letter, like it works for USB-Disks, on other servers, I need to do a device-scan or diskpart and mountvol. I cannot find the key difference between the Systems. Does anybody knows, what to configure, that the servers handling the FC-disk like a USB-disk? Thanks and regards Rudz

Connection Manager Profile for x64 Systems - not built for this processor architecture! Hi, Uptil now we've been using Win XP 32-bit, and have been using CMAK to set up our VPN connection on employees computers. We've just decided to start rolling out WinXP 64-bit. I've done a test install, and most of our software runs OK, with the exception of our CMAK profile, which pops up with the following error when you run the install, 'This profile was not built for this processor architecture'. As we don't currently have any x64 servers, I have installed VMWare Server on one of the WinXP x64 systems, and then installed Windows 2003 x64 R2 in this VM. Afte…

ODBC Servername reverts to old servername once I click OK
by Guest Aaron J- 0 replies

Hi All, We're currently experiencing some issues with ODBC connectivity in Windows 2003. Basically when I define an OBDC String for example for SQL Server and populate the following details as follows: Select System DSN Click Add Select SQL Server Enter Name, Description and Servername e.g. SQLSERVER01 Then select TCPIP Test Connection OK Then after a couple of hours the SQL Servername loses the SQLSERVER01 and reverts back to the previous Servername of the above DSN Previously used and deleted. i.e. Servername reverts to: OLDSERVER in ODBC. Thanks in advance, Aaron Jumani.

Sharing and syncing files

All users on our network have their homefolders directed to the 'H' drive on the server. I have two users, one the manager, the other his PA both using Vista. They need to be able to see/update each other's Documents that also need to be available offline and synchronise when back on the network. On the server, all other users have a folder with their username in the Homefolders folder. These two are shown just as Documents. When the manager updates his home folder, his PA does not always see the file on her computer (she has a mapped drive to his home folder with full control). Am I missing something here? If I map a drive to a user's folder, I expec…

Folders not accessible
by Guest Todd Lane- 0 replies

I have a hard drive on my Windows Server 2000 install that is used for files only. Several of the folders on that drive are suddenly inaccessible. I am told it is inaccessible and the directory is either corrupted or unreadable. Are there any inherent tools in Server 2000 or 3rd party tools that you can recommend to help repair this issue. Once I recover the files that are in these folders I was planning to reformat the hard drive to see if that fixed issue in the long run. Any other advice would be appreciated. Todd
