server screen locks and administrator cannot get logged in.

If i RDP to my server and after a period of inactivity (usually a couple hours, generaly overnight) when i try to remote to it i get to the login screen telling me that the computer is locked. When trying to login it won't let me. I cannot remember the exact error, but it is like I don't have the correct password. This account is the domain administrator and the password is correct. I've tried to login to the local administrator and a domain admin account and they all have the same problem. If i log out instead of closing the session it is okay. Is there a problem with terminal services? or am i missing something really stupid. Thanks for all you help. Mike.

shadow copy question
by Guest nikro- 5 replies
good morning, i have enabled on a win 2003 sbs server the 'shadow copies' of shared folders since the end of september. When i right click on the volume where shadow copies are enabled, in the shadow copy configuration, i can only see the last two copies of the volume (i leaved the default settings : 7am and 12am every weekday for shadow copies). I read I can have as long as 64 shadow copy of the same modified file, and that's what i want: being able to track and retrive an old versioned file that a user overwrited, but at the moment i can only see 1 old version of the file and nothing more. Thanks in advance for your attention and help.

Windows Server 2003, IIS 6: I need to address a problem where a client has moved his FTP folder structure from his C: drive to his D: drive. He is now having problems getting it up and running. I too need more details, however, my question is: Question: there appears to be a specific lack of information on the web concerning "moving" an IIS6 FTP site from one location to another. Is it that simple? Or should it be recreated? Thanks, pnadon

DNS CName and SQL 2005 Bulk Insert
by Guest dphelps- 0 replies

I asked this question in the SQL forum and haven't received a reply so I thought I'd ask you folks (your probably smarter). Does anyone know why a SQL 2005 Bulk Insert can't read a file (Access Denied) that contains a CName in the UNC but can read the same file when the UNC contains the server's NetBOIS name? If you do, do you know a way around the CName issue? Could it have something to do with the LoopbackCheck in SP1? BTW, other than this SQL issue, the UNC works just fine with the CName. I followed these two knowledge base articles to orginally get the CName to work: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/926642 (I used Method 2) & http://support.m…

Hi, I'm running into file ownership and permission problems especially as it pertains to users redirected folders. I'm finding that if a user should become a member of the domain Administrators security group, any files created or modified during that time will be owned by the Administrators group and the permissions will not include the user. Once the user is removed from the Administrators group, they will no longer have access to these files. Examples of the problems this causes: 1) The user opens Outlook while a member of the Administrators group. After returning to Doman Users, Outlook fails because the user no longer has permission to the…

Unexpected shutdown..

We have Windows 2003 x64 and our server just go through a restart and the only thing in the eventlog worth a highlight is "The previous system shutdown at 2:09:10 AM on 12/16/2007 was unexpected. " There are no memory dumps as well. How do we go about finding out whats causing our servers to go through this unexpected shutdown. No one says they have done anything and its been like 4 times now. They reside in the data center. I guess I wanted to know what can contribute to such shutdowns. I would think some bugcheck or something would be out there, but its clean. Any other possible causes and if not, any other way to trap it the next time it happen…

I've configured one of my W2k3 domain controllers to use an external time, according to this artice: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/816042 In step 4 I set the values for NTPServer to Time.Windows.com,0x1. I stopped & restarted the time service according to the article & then attempted to resync the time with the following command: w32tm /resync /rediscover. This gave the following response: 'The computer did not resync because no time data was available'. Questions: Can I specify more than one external time source, and if Yes, how? Did I use an incorrect command to resync the time? What is the correct command? How can I be sure I've the correct ti…
