Disk Mgr and pagefile
by Guest Dan DeCoursey- 0 replies
Hi , I usually have a dedicated drive for my pagefile. So I have Windows installed on C: with the recommended minimum (2048) pagefile on C: ( for system dump) and then I specify to have another pagefile on Drive E: (windows managed) I have seen when using the Disk Mgr snap in that on one drive E: actually says "pagefile" on it and on another server it does not it just says "E: basic healthy" So my question is ......IF I am doing pretty much the same setup on multiple servers......what makes Disk Manager actually tag one physical disk as "pagefile" and othe server setup the same way Diskmanager just says the drive is healthy ??

who can see my printers?
by Guest ykffc- 0 replies

OS: Windows Terminal server 2003' VPN client: CISCO vpn client I am a bit confused. Here I am only mentioning the same TERMINAL server all the way. 1) One day I defined a few printers in the terminal server with my Domain logon ID. (BTW, my logon has admin prvileges on this machine). I am on the physical network when defining them ( not VPN ). Then I logoff and asked other Domain users to RDP to the terminal server, they can all see the printers from their Windows -> control panel -> printers / faxes applet. 2) Today I sign-on as usual. I define one new printer \\xxx.xxx.xx.xx\printer with my logon but the printer is a local printer c…

do the MX priorities have to be in multiples of 10?
by Guest SQL Programmer- 0 replies

Hello: Traditionally, MX priorities are set in multiples of 10, and an attempt is made to deliver the email to the server with the lowest priority first. Do they have to be in priorities of 10, though? If an MX file has a priority of 10, another of 9, and another of 8, will that priority "work"? Thanks! SQL Programmer (it's just a name)

Demoting DC and Removal from Sites and Services
by Guest JT- 0 replies

If you remove the dc role from a member domain controller should it not automatically remove that servers entry from the site and sabnet entry under Sites and Services for all other member dc's and the master dc? this is windows 2003 i am referring to here. If so, how does it normally take for this to change to replicate and appear between servers. Thanks

Hello, the option "Optimize for Quick Removal", which kann be activated for USB-Disks (for disabling write-cache), is greyed out for IDE, SCSI and FC-LUNs. Does anybody has an idea, how to disable the write-cache (enable "Optimize for Quick Removal"-option) for disks, where this point is greyed out? Thanks and regards Rudolf

Poolmon.exe Problem?
by Guest compsosinc@gmail.com- 0 replies
We are running SBS2000. When we open a command prompt window and type poolmon.exe, the top of the window flashes just the memory information and then goes away--back to the command prompt. But if we type poolmon.exe /p, we get the screen with the data as we should. Why can we only start poolmon.exe using a switch command?? Thanks.

Hello, If this is not the right user group please point me to the right one. I moved my .Net 1.1 application to Windows 2008 Server and it only works for Administrators and not regular users. It has to do with access to Microsoft.ApplicationBlocks.ExceptionManagement I think When we installed Microsoft.ApplicationBlocks.ExceptionManagement we did this for everyone and not the Admins only. The error message I am getting is: myApplication.exe Has Stopped working. Description: Stopped working Problem signature: Problem Event Name: CLR20r3 Problem Signature 01: myApplication.exe Problem Signature 02: 2.1.0.0 Problem Signature 03: 47755e77 Problem Si…

Are the Pop Ups at Windows Server 2008 always so unimposing? I wanted to share a folder and was waiting for several minutes till I saw by pure chance that my desktop has had opened a new task...but just in the taskbar...without any blinking... After several other attempts i recognized that was the normal cycle. Is that new or just a mistake?

by Guest Hans Minten- 0 replies

Hi, Got a problemem with mounting drives on an windows 2003 Enterprise server SP2. After mounting a disk from a san the windows server does not show a drive letter to the mounted disk. Windows explorer does show a drive letter, windows command does show a drive letter but under windows disk management there is no drive letter assigned to the disk. If you want to add a drive letter to the disk it gives a error, but in you got to the explorer of command prompt you can browse to the folder and files. After a server reset a drive letter is assigned and is working fine. The reason why restating is not an option is that the mounted disk must be availab…

Re: Remote Printing

Re: Remote Printing Thanks for the reply. But let me reiterate: I do not have local servers. DCs are not a factor here, IOW, I have a dedicated File and Print server but its at a central locataion (not at the branches). I also want to avoid using workstations for security, performance and change control purposes. My question is specific: Would using the "print directly to the printer" send the job (data) directly to the printer or does this data still need to be sent over the WAN link to the server and then back down to the printer. I am trying to avoid bogging down the WAN link for user traffic. Thanks again. > "Harry Bates" <harry.bates@NO-SP…

Hi - if anyone can offer a suggestion, that would be great! I have a script, running on a win2003 server that won't download a file via http. It gives an http 500 error. Are there permissions, or limitations, etc that have to be set/overcome to do this? I expect the script isrunning as a guest or internet user process, and this may be a factor. Thanks Michael

Hi. Some time ago I tested W2k3's File services for Macintosh, but decided to not use it and uninstalled it. I didn't know that my testing had some undesirable effects on files. If I copy a file from the server to a FAT device, I'm asked to "Confirm Stream Loss", the box states that "Information that might be lost includes: Macintosh Application info". This information is probably hidden in alternate NTFS streams. I know I could copy all those files (too many) to a FAT device and then back to the source. I could also get all the attributes, dates and owner information and put those in place too, but it would be quite a lot of work. Any ideas to get rid …

Re: 2003 server hangs at Applying Computer Settings - Can't login Hi Thread, I had exactly the same problem. Normal boot activity, IP stack comes up OK, server making all the right noises but hangs at the "Applying Computer Settings". By 'hangs' I mean, the system was obviously still responsive, but would not complete this process, hence no CTRL + ALT + DEL screen. The server was running Windows 2003 SBS server SP2 on a HP ML350 G5 which has known issues with the NIC (HP NC373i). I updated the driver to the latest edition, latest BIOS and latest NIC BIOS firstly and then opened a command prompt and did... C:\>NETSH WINSOCK RESET OK. Reboot to com…

ISA Server 2000 crashing
by Guest rounner@yahoo.com- 0 replies

Our ISA server has been crashing. The event logs indicate some sort of connectivity issue. I am told ISA will do this if it loses connectivity but that sounds pretty extreme for simply losing a connection. Can anyone confirm if ISA server 2000 on Server 2000 will crash just because it loses its LAN connection? Thanks.

ntbackup issue using /p flag on Server 03 with an LTO Ultrium 3 drive

I have created some batch scripts which run as scheduled tasks on one of our servers. There are 2 scripts for each day, one of which backs up to a file for the onsite backup, the other of which backs up to the server's tape drive for the offsite backup. The onsite backup script works fine, using the following command: c:\windows\system32\ntbackup.exe backup "@C:\Backup Scripts\onsite.bks" /n "Tuesday morpork onsite set created %morporkdate% at %morporktime%" /d "Tuesday morpork onsite set created %morporkdate% at %morporktime%" /v:yes /r:no /rs:no /hc:off /m normal /j "Tuesday morpork onsite" /l:s /f "M:\Tuesday.bkf" where %morporkdate% and %morpork…
