Adding a new IP address.. causes server downtime?
by Guest Kenny- 1 reply

Hi, I realise I must add a new IP address to my windows 2000 server for hosting another SSL site on a unique domain name on the same ssl port (443) of the same server. I already have several sites running on this server. Will I cause any downtime by adding a new IP address? Can I just go ahead and add the new IP address or could this cause the server to disconnect from the network? Many thanks, Kenny

Remote Desktop and Cut and Paste
by Guest Pearl- 1 reply

Does anyone know how to resolve a problem with Cut and Pasting between one Remote Desktop session and the active desktop? It should work but for me it does not. I do a cut from a Word document inside the Remote session and then open my Notepad on my own (active) desktop to paste it but it does not paste....I've checked the Remote Desktop Options and Local Resources to make sure I have the drives selected.

Hi When I create any user account we always have to mention user’s employ code in exchange advance tab-> Custom attribute-> extentionAttribute1 in user properties. After that when we check that user account properties in outlook address book (GAL) it shows the employ code in EmpCode field. What is this EmpCode field, is this field is created by the administrator or it is default. If it is created by administrator, Please tell me how it is possible. We are working on windows 2003 and exchange 2003.

Measuring printer traffic
by Guest Jeroen- 0 replies

We're about to decide to move some servers from the HQ to branch sites or move most of the servers to a virtual environment hosted in a datacenter. The decision is depending on the amount of printing traffic being generated. Is there an easy way to measure printing traffic? The idea was to move storage, database and terminal servers to a datacenter with a high speed backbone. Offices, including HQ, connect to the datacenter using a permanent VPN. Each office gets it's own printserver that hosts the printers for the specific office. Is this the best way to do or are there other ways? Jeroen

Terminal Server
by Guest Candace Sparks- 1 reply

I am installing a Windows 2003 Server at a client site tomorrow. I am installing the OS at my office, then taking to client site. They have a domain controller now, this will be an additional server to act as their terminal server. When I set it up on their network, will I set it up at that time as a member server? I have never added another server to an existing network before. They have terminal server licenses on the existing server. I have to move them to the other server and do not know how to do that? Also, they will be accessing the database for their main software on the main server. Do I map drivers for each terminal server user, so the…

Lost all security permissions.
by Guest Eli- 7 replies

Need help with file security permissions. There are a lot of files that for some unknown reason lost all permissions info. If I try to open or copy them I get access denied error. Using cacls command doesn’t help – denied. If I go to security tab there are no permissions set. I have to take over ownership of the file, apply and then close it. Then open security tab again and add “system” account full access, then apply. After that I can see all the permissions that were supposed to be there originally. There are about 5000 files like that spread out around 100s of different folders with different hierarchy. Anyone know why it could of happen and how to…

trouble creating/accessing a share on a server
by Guest biff- 4 replies
I have access to a server and want to try to share out a folder so I can access it over the network. I have shared the folder and then given a domain group I am in full control via the share permissions. I have also given this same domain group full control of this folder via NTFS permissions. I can map the drive OK. But when I try to access it, I get "X:\ is not accessible, Access is denied" Why would I get this error if I have full control in both share and NTFS permissions?

by Guest Just Guessing- 4 replies

Is there a way to enlarge the system partition (c:) on Windows 2003 Server? I have heard that typical repartitioning software isn't recommended on a server. Has anyone ever done it? Or is there an acceptible way of doing it, short of reinstalling Windows? Thanks!
