Whose DNS do I use for Win2K3 R2 IIS in DMZ?
by Guest Tankster- 3 replies

I have a newly installed server running IIS that I want to put in a DMZ. My question is whose DNS servers will the machine reference? There will not be a DNS server in the DMZ and I'm pretty sure I don't point to my internal AD/DNS servers (would have to open more holes in firewall), but yet my internal users need to be able to ftp web changes up to the server... how is this normally done? Is it just standard for the traffic to just "loop" through the firewall since if I use the ISP's DNS, I would think that since it would resolve to the public IP(s) of the firewall, that it will hit the outside port and come back through... Am I thinking right on this, or …

Hello; My user are having some intermittant problems with changing/deleting file names & folders. The shared folders are setup with DFS and replication. 1st problem. Every once in while, a user will try to change/delete a file name. When the folder is refreshed, the changes are not applied. The same old file reappeares or the file isn't deleted. This doesn't happen all the time. This also happens to the users Home drive and their "my Documents folder" that has been relocated to a folder on their home drive and if the "My Docs" isn't synchronized to their PC. 2nd problem. Some Users are setup with "my Documents" that are redirected to a f…

Virus protection on servers?
by Guest HendersonD@victorschools.org- 6 replies

I have 13 Windows based servers. Many of these were installed over the last 3 months as we made the transition from being primarly a Novell shop to Windows based servers. Here is the breakdown: 2 domain controllers/dns/dhcp 2 Exchange 2007 ISA Server SQL Server IIS 6 Application Servers What is the consensus on whether I should have virus protection installed on these servers? I do not have any file servers since my NetApp SAN takes care of that. I do own McAfee's Enterprise package which includes McAfee's VirusScan plus their add on Spam protection piece. We have this product installed on all of our client machines, I am not sure if it is a good idea to…

Clean Server Harddrive Before Scraping
by Guest Pat Hall- 3 replies

Need to make sure the harddrive of a server is not readable (without superhuman effort) after a server is scrapped. I've been reading about Low level disk format (not used on modern drives) and zero-fill utilities. Some Zero-fill say you have to get the one from the manufacturer of the drives/server and others say you can use any generic one. Has anyone every done what I need to do? All servers are running Windows 2000 oe 2003.

Folder redirection & slow links ...
by Guest the.bones@gmail.com- 1 reply

All, I know this has been asked/answered before, but wanted to see if anyone had any reasonable workarounds. We just setup a branch office with a "slow link", and naturally, Windows folder redirection becomes unusable for users at that location. However, I like folder redirection because it provides for a centralized backup mechanism for user data. Is there some way to: 1. At logon, sync redirected folders over the network 2. Force the user work off the locally cached copy during the workday 3. At logoff, sync the redirected folders with the server again ? Any help appreciated. Bones

Large Files - Filewrite performance Windows Server 2003
by Guest Peter- 0 replies

Filewrite Performance decreases heavily over time when writing large files (100gb+). we experienced that when dumping large files out from a database. For testing this issue we simply created a small script that generates a file and logs the i/o writing performance. The performance starts at about 125mb/s and then constantly drops over time. after some mins it is down to 20mb/s. The curious thing is if i start a 2nd process while the other is still running the same thing happens again in nearly the same time. my first assumption would have been that the performance should be low allready when starting the 2nd process but the performance over time is ne…

MI5-Persecution: MI5 are Afraid to Admit Theyre Behind the Persecution (28056)
by Guest MI5-Victim@mi5.gov.uk- 1 reply

MI5 are Afraid to Admit They're Behind the Persecution MI5 have issued a formal denial of any involvement in my life to the Security Service Tribunal, as you might expect them to; but, more importantly, the persecutors have never denied that theyre from the Security Service, despite several years of accusations from my corner on usenet and in faxed articles. I am not surprised that the Security Service Tribunal found "no determination in your favour". I am however a little surprised that the persecutors have refused to confirm my identification of them; by doing so, they implicitly admit that my guess was right. "No determination in your favour" says the Secu…

Hi all, I'm tryng to operate a Tandberg storage library autoloader with rsm. from the technet web site (http://technet2.microsoft.com/windowsserver/en/library/451394eb-4314-4005-85da-a3c49c00c5041033.mspx?mfr=true) I read that "To inventory the media in a specified automated library" I have to write down this command: rsm /lfTANDBERG /aFULL where TANDBERG is the name I've assigned to my library. Technet says that this command make an inventory (using barcode) of the tapes in my library, but even if the commad completes succesfully (in less than a second) no inventory is performed... I was expeting that after the inventory I will see somewhere …
