Hi there, Is there a way to create services on windows server(regedit, etc)? I want to run a batch file and update just the batch file and just restart the service in order to upgrade it to a newer software version, unlike the autoexec.nt which requires removal/reinstallation of service and is more awkward. Thanks a lot, T

Hi all I need to install a new server. This server will be used by around 50 people (30 on site and 20 remotely) The 30 people on site will be connecting to sql via 3rd party application installed on their own pc's and will not be using the server to login. The 20 remote users need to connect to the 3rd party application via RDP(to be run on the server) and the application will connect to sql which will also be installed on the box. Can anyone suggest what sort of spec machine would be good to run 2003 especially with around 20 rdp users Cheers

Hey all, We are running Windows 2003 domain, Windows XP and some Vista clients and We are expirencing an authentication problem with clients who uses the SecureRemote client (NGX) from the Internet. The remote computers sometimes are domain members and some are in workgroup. When we change the password to a AD username and the remote user tries to use CIFS, SMTP or any other network service which requires Kerberos or NTLM authentication - it failes. The user recieves errors messages in the eventlog "No authentication protocol was available" and some other related authentication events. This is sometimes caused by invalid cached credentials. Because the…

Installing Vista printer drivers on Windows Server 2003 R2
by Guest majorg- 3 replies

My organisation has a Windows Server 2003 R2 print server, and mainly XP clients, but are introducing some Vista clients. When you go to add a printer driver on the server, there is no option to install one for Vista, which isn’t surprising because Server 2003 R2 was released before Vista, but is a patch available to resolve this problem?

I posted this on the SBS newsgroup and was advised to post here We have Windows Server 2003 as a domain controller and some of the pc's have windows xp media center 2005. I am unable to join the domain using xp media center, however, I was able to add the windows server 2003 shared fax printer. All seems to be going well except that when I open the Fax Console on any of the pc's I get "all fax printers are inaccessible" in the status bar. I am able to use shared folders but the fax problem I am unable to solve. I tried tinkering with the fax printer permissions and security settings, but nothing seems to help. Thank you for any insight you may give.…

Printer Directory
by Guest Zachary Dundore- 3 replies

We are running a Windows 2003 server domain controller that also acts as our printer server. Within the past week here our printer directory no longer displayed printers that were being shared on this server. I went on to the server and found that the list printer in directory box was still checked though the printers wouldn't display. Print functions to the server were fine. The only solution to our problem so far is to open each individual printer property box, uncheck the list in directory option, wait for a couple minutes for that change to take effect and then recheck it. After this the printer reappears. We have too many printers on this server…

Recently I patched one of our W2K3 R2 to SP2, and now I can't install Admin Pack. Keeps telling me the OS is not compatible? I recall some security updates in R2 SP2 may affect this, but how do I get around it? Thanks for your help.

by Guest Robert- 1 reply

Until about a month ago we were able to connect to our server with Remote Desktop Connection outside our network. Now we can only connect if we are on the network. We use the full domain name of the server. We have not change our firewall settings. Did they change the port that RDC with a security update? Any ideas where to look for this would be greatly appreciated.

Hello, This is an odd one.. My PDCe is showing a local user profile for almost every user on my network. They appear both within the System Properties ->Advanced->User Profiles as well as each has a folder within the C:\Documents and Setting\ . I know for a fact that these users have never logged into the server locally. We are redirecting the user's My Documents folder (to D:\Home\%username%) via GPO but are not using roaming profiles. These odd local profiles have a folder structure containing at the root "Application Data", "Cookies", "Local Settings", as well as "NTUser.dat" and "NTUser.dat.log". the size of each profile is approx 220KB. …

I am getting the above error when I create a Virtual Directory that points to the root of a volume on a remote Windows Server 2003 Box (member server). The config is as follows: 1: Using a custom application pool with a domain account that has read access (NTFS and Shared) permissions on the remote server. 2: The domain account is a member of the local IIS_WPG group on the web server. 3: I can see the folders from the IIS admin console within the Virt. Directory. 4: The UNC share on the remote server is not an admin share (such as F$). - I created my own. 5: My Permissions on the VIrt Dir are READ and BROWSE. If I share out a sub folder on the …
